Ideal secondary?

Guess Witherspoon cant cover either, since hes given up 8 more receptions.

You know, the Witherspoon whos supposedly the best corner in the NFL.
Haven't been watching him. I've been watching Bland since the beginning and he was never much of a cover guy.

Bland can't cover
We have one of the worst pass rushes in the NFL through 4 games. We are bottom 5 in the league in every metric you can name. Not saying Bland is good, but a pass rush makes all those guys look better.

Whoever knows that receivers are supposed to have a DB by them at all times

Revel is 6'1 200.... could he play FS in the nickel? Our safeties are so slow and cant seem to cover the field.
You want speed then put Speed on the field.

Ameer Speed at SS
Durant at NCB
Downs at FS
Porter and Revel as the outsiders.
Carson first off the bench.
That is all the speed we can muster.

That Bland contract is looking asinine. Every team we play will target him often.
Hes had his difficulties. That said we've struggled collectively on defense, changed schemes and moved him around. A lot of guys have ups and downs. This board hated Jordan Lewis for the majority of his time here. He ended up being a very solid player. Hopefully Bland rebounds as well.

Revel and Porter on the outside
Bland in the slot
Downs and Thompson at safety?
I think Bland gets too much grief on here, like others who got paid big money. Until Revel proves it, Bland is still our best option, and one of the outside corner spots. Revel didn’t prove anything when he got the chance, which is part of the reason we got Porter.

When Thompson returns, I would go with Porter and Bland at outside corner and Diwns back in the slot in the nickel, but at safety instead of Hooker in the base. Revel would get snaps next, and if he proves that he should be on the field more than Bland then he should take snaps away from him.

And the pass rush is what’s going to be key, you’re spot on.

JPJ is Good enough to let you change the math and play more split field coverages and cover 6 variants to help your #2 corner, but I think most would agree that JPJ is the in very good category not the elite category and will look very ordinary if asked to constantly cover for 4+ seconds.

It’ll also be interesting to see if CP elects to mostly change the coverage math or the pressure math. I have no idea what the actual numbers from the Houston game look like (so im probably off) but it felt like the blitz rate was hire than it had been through 3 games.
As it always is. If you cannot collapse/penetrate the OL, no D will be good.

Because of a high number of pick 6's, you mean. He wasn't great at covering when he was all pro.

Surely you know this, I mean it's never been a secret.
You dont make All Pro as a corner if you cant cover. Surely you know this.

I'm getting off it for health reasons. Takes him two full years to come back from an ACL, and has to wear a brace forever because of his head. Then last week he acts like he's going to lose his leg, but it was a mild enough injury that he's able to practice and play the next week.

Plus he's had some Diggs-like moments when it comes to tackling. He might just not be very tough.
Hyperextensions are scary as heck. Your knee buckles the opposite way it was intended. It should take a week to two weeks to fully recover from those.
