Dallas Cowboys defensive stats through 4 games

Team wise, as expected with all the injuries in the secondary the passing yards took a hit after the Texans game
242.5 yards/game ranked 21st tied with the Panthers and just ahead of the Broncos. the Rams are ranked first with 154 yards/game allowed.

The rushing yards improved but we are still ranked 31st.
150 yards/game right behind the Saints. The Falcons are ranked first with 48 yards/game allowed.

Vonn Miller .........MIA
Maybe time to retire him .......... permanently
He may be washed up.

However, it seemed to me that they brought him in for a specific role and circumstance. For obvious passing situations with a lead. And thus far, there haven’t been too many opportunities where Dallas had a significant lead, forcing their opponents to be one dimensional.

Slow starting offense doesn't help....at all

Not getting a single TD against the nfls 16th ranked defense exactly the same type of garbage we've seen when the defense is actually not getting slaughtered.

Yes, they finally found their way but against a good defense they may not be able to hit that switch.

We've seen that play out before

Ummmm, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think this is very good.

Dude, humor. Just in case you didn't notice that was a humor post. Sheeesh.
Well sometimes when I'm reading really quick and the coffee isn't fully kicked in first thing in the morning I'm not gonna catch your little hidden sarcasm Because typically you're not very funny in here you're very serious you say a lot of negative things so people are gonna always assume what you say is actually what you meant.. :oldcouple:

I just wanted to bring in some real facts so people can have them in front of them that they are getting better at that up front they just need to develop a better outside pass rush and close but other than that I think they are moving in that direction where they got a nice rotation on the interior defensive line and even Gary is playing better the last two games so we can only hope but we all understand that the defense is still not good at all but they're making small incremental progress.

That's always good to have real facts and perspective but still I'd rather not see it yes I think the first couple of games of the year has skewed those stats I think they're getting better in that department especially the rushing defense They're tackling better they're getting plenty of pressures they're just not closing but yeah it's not been good man we already know that I don't think we needed charts but I do appreciate your effort to get us those.. Can they disappear like Snapchat you know we saw him now can they burn themselves off the screen 'cause they're burning my eyes..:muttley::lmao::popcorn:

Hey, we may not get many sacks or TOs, but we can't cover or tackle either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Byron Jones can cover but he doesn't get many picks. Oops I'm mean Joey Porter can cover but not catch. Porter-Jones time just seems to repeat itself around here.

I thought our defensive rushing stats would look better as we have done better the last 2 games, especially against the Crows who are offensively a rushing team. Houston's OL is so poor that I thought we'd do OK against them. Statistically these running QB's have tilted the stat table against us (and hurt us in the game). Most defenses don't account for QB rushing. If we'd played Kirk Cousins, Justin Herbert, and Matt Stafford instead of Dart, Daniels, and Jackson our stats would be much better.

By the eye test, though, we are better against the run than in 2025 by a long shot.

edit:
@blueblood70 . . . just saw your last post in this thread and we're thinking along the same lines ! :hammer::starspin:

They're far from being even average but I think they have improved especially in the run game I mean look at the yards per carry for the running backs including Derek Henry they were respectable they were getting dumped on by the last two defensive coordinators and these rosters and this one is brand new so it has a genuine built-in excuse we call a reason but here people call it an excuse but they're trying to figure out along with missing five key players on defense for most of the year how to get this 34 had a gel together as a group and I think they've made small incremental steps but the one place I see it the most is stopping the run now they have JPJ If they get some of these other defensive backs back both corners and safeties they're starting guys along with maybe overshown as a pass rusher I think they maybe by Week 10 we'll see a lot better defense...

I mean that would be OK if they can just give up less than 24 points every game at least that would give us a better chance this offense is not always going to be humming it's not always going to be dead on Right now we're wasting all those games last year the Cowboys offense was so good most of the year they could have won 14 games had the defense shown up That's my opinion this year the same thing and they have continued wasting franchise quarterbacks like Romo and Prescott's careers but not having the right defense special teams or coaching Staffs or all the above sometimes like right now they're learning on the fly..

So yes they have a long ways to go but I do see some improvement for sure and they have a valid built in reason They have a new coaching staff a bunch of new players a brand new player we just got last week and we have a bunch of injuries..

Hoping the sack numbers start to go up. Have faced some fairly mobile QBs the first 1st weeks.
Dart/JD5/Lamar and CJ is mid.
