Aubrey has missed 6 of his last 7 FG from 57+

Some of his misses have come in games nobody cared about. Washington last year. Giants last game. And the 2 Vikings misses..... we can argue if that Vikings game had much meaning after we pretty much lost our playoff chances vs the Lions.

But that Ravens block was costly. But it was blocked. I don't think a blocked field goal is on the kicker.

The Cardinals miss you can argue could've been valuable too. Our season would've played out different.... if we head into the Vikings game 7-5-1..... we could've gameplanned differently, had a different sense of urgency against the Vikings, Chargers, and Giants.

So it's good that he's missing these in games that are perceived as low import. The 2 missed last week was exacerbated at the time, but saved because we won. It did bring to light the fact that we really need to address this right about now. One of them was blocked, but the other one was missed and didn't look even close.

Maybe don't send him for those long attempts unless it's end of half or end of game...... or it's when we really have absolutely no choice
Blocked kicks are at least partially on the kicker, but it's really about the decision-making. Blocks become much more likely as the kicking distance gets longer, because you have to kick it at a shallower angle to get the distance. Long kicks will get blocked sometimes and you can't say that those attempts don't count. Schotty behaves like a 60-yarder is a routine kick, but it's not. Aubrey isn't superhuman: these results are likely just regression to th mean.

The blocks are an issue. Several kickers have never had one blocked, Aubrey has had 5 in just over 3 years. Either he has an issue, or every coach involved in ST needs to go.

He’s far from “Automatic Aubrey”. Just another case of our awful front office paying top $ to a player who isn’t top of his position.
Other kickers aren't sent out routinely for ridiculously long FGs. The longer the FG, the lower the angle, the more likely a block. (Also, the rest of the FG unit has a little something to do with blocks, don't you think?).
Just looking at someone who hasn't missed from 50+ this year, Reichard's attempts have been from 50, 54 and 56. Aubrey's misses were from 59, 62 and 65.

I think the bigger problem is our head coach not understanding situational football.

The decision to attempt a near 60 yarder at the end of the first half vs the texans is a good example. That blocked fg turned into a six point swing.

If it had been with just a few seconds left, no problem, but with that miss, there was still time for Hou to turn it into an opportunity of its own. That was a decision not seeming to understand the situation.
My thoughts exactly Bob. Just because you have kicker who can make a 65-yard FG doesn't mean you have try to make a 60+ FG. There are other variables - or as you stated situations - to consider. Most will agree trying that with a few seconds at the end of the half is acceptable. So too is at the end of the game when you have to either tie or play for the win. Another consideration, which this coach should know, is how good is my defense? If I had top 3, shut-down defense, then maybe I give him the opportunity, confident that my defense will close the door on them from advancing the ball. But we don't. We demonstrated that against the Ravens, that this defense can allow a pass over 20 yards with just a handful of seconds on the clock. To repeat which you so accurately stated: the problem is not Aubrey, it's the Coach who isn't putting him in the right opportunities to succeed.

Can we stop the 60+ yard field goals unless it's a end of half or game tying/winning FG. These dumb decisions are putting the defense it terrible spots. Schotty game management is terrible for someone who has been around the game as long as he has. I understand wanting to attempt to get points but u got to see that attempting these with a bad defense has been an issue.

You are absolutely wrong
missed blocks that allow a rusher to get into position has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE KICKER

It’s expected if opponents expect us to kick long FG they will work at schemes to block it as it has a higher chance. With Steele is being what he is , most have a chance to do that. Our ST play this season is pathetic

Every block Aubrey has had came because someone on the O line screwed up. EVERY SINGLE ONE. There is no way this ST coach should have been kept.

I don't know what to tell you except that simply isn't true. Blocks have to do with the protection, the distance, and yes, the kicker.

This right here. It's not Aubrey's fault our head coach keeps putting him in compromising situations. I know Aubrey has the leg but it seems like every time we get to about the 40 yard line if we don't gain anymore he's ready to trot our Aubrey no matter what. That doesn't help the defense either if Aubrey misses.

Maybe the long-ball magic is gone and we need to stop trotting him out there regularly for moonshot FG attempts?

He did hit 4 of his previous 5 from that distance (since last Sept.) so hopefully it's just a slump he can work his way out of.

Killer 6-point swing at the end of the half in Houston thanks to the confidence we had in Aubrey.

not so automatic, is he...

his long ball is there. just accuracy is seemingly missing and its usually something small. need a kicking coach to fix it.

Especially when the kicker has to lower the projection to accommodate the distance. There's hellava lot of difference between 55 and 65 yards.
