How to move forward at qb?

Top 15 at best and only if he's playing bottom of the barrel teams which DC has been doing for years. He chokes when he gets near a playoff scenario. His first year in the league was his best and he hasn't been decent since. All that said, the DC will not sniff the playoffs without a top 3 defense to make up for Daks inaccuracies. What's hilarious is as BHays points out, you can argue Dak all day however the true problem is our idiot GM and son. Until they are gone the DC will be losers no matter what.
You can cry, complain and lie all you want, all it does is make one disbelieve anything you say.

Use the 1st round pick that they do have and draft a QB. Unless Dak is willing to take a sweetheart deal, they shouldn't consider extending him again, especially at or near his current rate.

If (and I said if) Dak gets a third contract here, it should be a short term deal for him to act as a bridge to a new QB. And it will be far more affordable than his current contract.

This is assuming the Jones Boys do business the way an actual NFL team ought to. Which is far from a given.

This team should have been blown up right after the playoff beatdown by the Packers.

Dak should have been the first to go.

Dak's cap numbers are just going to make it imposable to field a competitive team.

Jerry has really destroyed this team on any chances of competing for the foreseeable future.
That is B.S. stupid talking point about Dak's cap hit making it impossible to field a competitive team. You have ample resources to put a better defense on the field. Poor drafting and coaching the defense is main problem. You can't see that??

Options
1) The ride him into the ground approach. Keep at it with the defense.

2) extend the runway. Trade for Burrow. Or Allen. Or Goff. Get a few more years with a qb who fits the timeline better. Harder to do with a defense playing so poor.

3) Trade for Justin Herbert while his value is down. .

4) Go for the draft.

Nothing wrong with Dak. Plus, he definitely is a top 5 QB right now. His stats prove it.

Dak is:

• #1 leading in passing yards (1,381) after 5 games.
• Tied #2 in passing TDs (9).
• Tied 3rd least in INTs (3; both interceptions against the Buccaneers were Ferguson's fault as both passes went right through both hands, only to be tipped and intercepted).
• #4 best QBR (79.2).
Hia passer rating is 10th or so. Yards per attempt is near the bottom. Although that makes me think were dinkng too much.

Cowboys don't have any draft picks for next year 2027. Not until 2028 do they have any draft picks.
Then dont you think it makes sense to rebuild then? Trade Dak and hope for the best, Dak gets an opportunity to go to a better organization and Dallas gets draft picks

Every top team would be after Dak. Dak would leave to a much better team amd win a championship or two. Meanwhile, Jerry gets more draft picks to waste, and you will be back here complaining even more.

This isn’t an anti Dak post. I think every qb has games like last night. The difference is their defense and coaching isn’t atrocious and maybe it can help them still win.

I think Dak is a top 10 qb but like any other guy outside the top 5….one who needs help around him to win.

Reality is though. He’ll be 34 next year. With one year remaining on his deal. The window to win with him is closing… and closing fast.

In a deep qb draft….Shouldn’t we start to prepare for life after Dak? Consider drafting a guy and letting him sit for a year?
I'd like for them to draft one high to sit behind Dak for a season or two before he has to be the guy, but given their luck with Romo (undrafted) and Dak (4th round) I'm skeptical. On top of that, they've spent significant future draft capital already for the next two drafts. On top of THAT, I don't see them "wasting" rookie deal contract seasons for the player not to be on the field.

Dak will probably the guy (with no successor on the roster) until he suffers a career-ending injury. Then they'll panic and draft a QB probably in the 2nd round and start him right away... Just like with Quinthy.

....and we're to trust Jerry to land us a QB? Poor Arch Manning. (His name will be on this board soon)......and he will get hampered by a terrible coaching staff. But who cares.....it will bring attention to this franchise. Question: Don't guys inside the top 5 need help too?

The window has been closed for years and years already.

Arch Manning is going in the top 5, maybe even top 3.

We are not bad enough or have the draft capital to trade up that high to get him.

I agree with everything you posted here. But you said something about "one who need help around him to win". That goes for every single quarterback in the NFL.

For example.... Matthew Stafford is considered elite, yet he didn't win his first playoff game until his 12th season in the NFL. Why was that?

Mahomes is a GOAT quarterback. He miss the playoffs last season. For those who say, it's because he got hurt.... before he got hurt, the Chiefs record sucked. Even GOAT quarterbacks can't win without help around them.

The whole "need help around him to win" goes for every quarterback in the league.

I’m glad you think that way because his salary will be more of an issue going into next season unless they do the unthinkable and kick the can down the road by extending him again

.....to get him.....it will have to be a wheel & deal move........give up something to get something.
