I have not given up on Schottenheimer as head coach.
While I’m frustrated with Parker’s defense, I have not given up on him either because I think the defense would stink in any scheme due to a terrible LB group, no quality edge rushers who excel in at least 1 area (Parsons- pass rush; DLaw- run defense), a bunch of rental vets who seem to be doing their own thing out there, and injuries to the secondary.

However, what if Jerry were to fire Schotty?

My thought: maybe Jerry has been wrong in hiring offensive minded coaches just because that’s where our most talent is. Maybe there are lots of young play callers who could be successful with the offense.
Maybe, just maybe, the Cowboys would be better served hiring a strong, experienced, proven defensive minded head coach who could get the most out of this group while identifying what is needed additionally.

In other words, let the young up and comer who needs experience grow with an elite offense while the head coach is perhaps a proven defensive architect and play caller who can get that group where it needs to be while also influencing the offensive coordinator’s playcalling at times to help the defensive side of the ball.

There are many top DCs who would take the head coaching job. There are many young OCs, even Adams, who could grow and develop with an elite group where little play-calling mistakes don’t have as much impact. It’s hard to hire away great DC’s without offering a promotion.

Just a thought. It’s been decades since this team could stop the run. We’ve had great pass rushers at times; we’ve had guys like Quinn who would sell out on stunts and blitzes; but the downfall has always been good teams who run the ball down our throats. Object #1 for any effective defense is stopping the run…period.

It's not going to happen.

Schottenheimer is Dak's preferred OC.
- As long as Dak's the QB, Schottenheimer likely remains HC.

Parker will be in Dallas in 2027 regardless of this year's results.
- Jerry really didn't want to fire Eberflus.
- Jerry definitely will not want to fire Parker after 1 season.

Some position coaches will likely get replaced if they don't get better this season.

ST coach: What's the status of Nick Sorensen's contract?
- They'll probably wait until the contract if up to replace him.

Jerry should have promoted Dan Quinn after the playoff meltdown against Green Bay three years ago instead of keeping McCarthy for one more year.

Not saying Quinn would have been the answer, but his defensive scheme was already in place and Dallas actually forced turnovers when he was here.

I think he had planned on hiring Quinn for a couple of years, but then all of a sudden he came to the realization that Quinn would not let him run everything because he's too charismatic. Jerry wouldn't be able to contain him , the press and players would have blown Jerry off.

The Wild card for the remainder of this season is the Clubhouse. If it turns on this coaching staff, then jerry'll have to make a change. Probably in appointing a interim coach.

I doubt he fires Shotty even if he loses the clubhouse. Garrett lost it after the Vikings lose at home and he wasn’t fired. Phillips seemed to have lost it and was fired. But that’s because he had his chosen HC-in-waiting on staff.

Yeah, that was a better team then. Even with the GB debacle.

You may be right, but I think Jerry seems to be a little hard pressed for time these days,
Looking at his face:eek:

1) Jerry won’t fire schotty in season 2) firing schotty means Jerry admitting he got it wrong which is impossible for him to admit. 3) imo I don’t think dak will fight for schotty if we have a 6,7,8 win season. I’m not saying he’s gonna ask for him to be fired but I don’t think he’ll put up an ultimatum.

Jerry has hired 9 head coaches since he bought the team. 6 out of the 9 had no NFL head coaching experience. 5 of the 6 have been failures except Jimmy.
I don’t know how we can be comfortable that JJ won’t hire another NFL intern again when the time comes to fire Schotty.

It depends on how bad Schottenheimer flounders. I can absolutely see Jerry throwing the towel in and pushing for Tomlin or a more established coach. I know a coach with actual testicles is not his MO, but i believe hes getting old and desperate.

Go break the bank for Marcus Freeman

Relates well to the kids, is a great leader and a good man.

Plus he’s an awesome coach and motivator
Which means he’ll never consider working for Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones is a loser and there are at least 50 college football programs that would pay Freeman more than Jerry would would ever pay a head coach.

He’s been old for ten years. He’s been desperate for 30. If Schottenheimer loses the rest of the games this season he’ll still be head coach of the Cowboys next season.
