Opinion: Give Mr Parker a chance

Me personally, I'm smack dab in the middle of waffling back and forth on whether to fire him...

OR whether to give him another year AFTER getting extreme draft/FA improvements in the edge, linebacker and corner rooms.

Can't make up my mind just yet.

Through five games the Cowboys have 34 penalties.

Thats 20th in the league and by the time the Falcons, Chiefs and Bills play their fifth game, the Cowboys will likely be 24th.

So, are you saying that’s a reflection of a culture?

:)
Over the last 5 years (2021–2026), the Cowboys rank 1st in the NFL with 606 total penalties charged against them.

I mean, he'll have this entire year for a chance. Hopefully we see some improvement once guys ever get healthy.
But, if it's 30th or 28th rankings, fire him and try for a vet DC that fits what we got for strengths.

I've never seen any competent DC have a D that was as chaotic as this one. 5 games in, I don't believe Parker can run a D.

You definitely have a point no disagreement here. In real life I'm not the most patient of persons either so it's kind of against my nature.

I just really struggle with the lack of outside run contain type fundamentals with any and all of the edges.

To be more specific I have a hard time believing that Parker is not yelling and screaming how to stay at home and set the edge type disciplines at these guys.

The pass rush failures are another whole ball of wax as I can't wait any longer on EZ nor another 2 years on Lawrence to show up.

I need to see sooner rather than later progress as well but the above further reinforces my opinion that he needs a lot more personnel improvements in order to do his job effectively.

Just me, I know.

From what I understand, Parker plays a purely BBDB type D. That means everyone is hesitating while trying to read the D at the snap. And that means the DBs are playing way off the receivers.

No matter the talent lack, there is simply no way we should be allowing receivers to be THAT open at the snap. Yes, I know it happens occasionally, but w/ our D it's almost every play. Something is wrong that goes way beyond any lack of talent or injury issues.

When I say Eber was better than this, I am serious. I'm not jabbing at anyone or trying to be right. I've never claimed Eber was good, I've only said that he had nothing to work w/. Well, Parker has more to work w/ than Eber and the D is even worse.

I believe Parker benefitted more than most here realized from the extreme talent on that Philly D in 2024. A chimp could've run that D at a high level.

Parker is a poor man's Larry Brown.

he's had an entire off-season.
f/o brought in players on that side of the ball.
draft was mostly that side of the ball.
and we are 5 games in.
how much more does he need?
he's incompetent.
and i don't need to see it any more.
my eyes are vomiting from what i've seen already.
there is no excuse for this moron to remain on the payroll.
they should pluck his philly feathers now.
i've seen enough of his incompetence and it needs to end.

Strong post, no doubt ksk.

I would think as a DC you'd have a bag you could dig into when things aren't going well to right the ship. But since this dude has never been a DC before, it's painfully obvious he has no bag to dig into. Unless you are some defensive prodigy at that age, theres no way you should be leading a defense with such a weak play book. You have to be able to look at the product and see that it's not working and get in your bag and find something that works. They still can't pressure thr qb, can't stop the run and can't cover anyone. Seems to me you either have to find help coaching wise in someone who has experience or simplify things and work on improving some aspect of your defense weather it's coverage or stopping the run. This all could have been identified in preseason had we had the 1s working together instead of a collection of bodies protecting your valuable assets.

The players deserve a lot, if not most of the blame. If someone can name me a single DC who could definitively turn this defense around, I'll start giving Parker all the blame.

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve some of it, but these players make it hard for anyone to overcome.

I feel the same way.

Kid Wonder loves Cover Read.

Not exactly an attacking defense.

Youre where I'm at but I will concede to ksk that the performance level of this existing group should not be so bad is is showing now.
