Tampa increased blitz rate

Thought this deserved its own thread.

Interesting to see they increased run blitzes by 14% over their normal rate.

It could be one of those things where Bowles chose to ride the hot hand - not necessarily planning the increased blitz rate before the game. The blitz basically pitched a shutout in the 1st half. It wasnt until the 2nd half that Dak hit on some passes and had a little success vs the blitz.

Dak isn’t elusive again pressure.the only thing he can do is get the ball out quick. Otherwise he looks like Bledsoe back there in the pocket this season.

My friend came over to watch the Bucs game and she kept asking why he don’t run from the pressure like the other qbs; like the Bucs qb does against us….

Smart move by the Bucs. Dallas really cant run the ball well and if you capitalize on that with the blitz throws off the timing of the offense. Dak had very poor footwork and it impacted his accuracy negatively.

It looks like to me that Beebe should have picked up the blitzing LB and abandoned the double team block.

Not sure why he did not make the adjustment, you can see the LB moving well in advance.(At least you can in slow motion)

This is what all defenses see when they play Dallas. Slow RB, slow QB, Slow TE, average speed for WR1+2. There's no threat of a big mistake by the defense because Dallas has only 1 burner on their roster and he's a 150lb WR4.
You mean to tell me the GM hasn't selected players to turn to when a team blitzes 45% of the time?

I thought defenses got burned when teams blitzed that much!

And yet they have a top 5 offense, with a 32 ranked defense.

A lot of nfl teams, def coor won't just let Dak sit back and add up yards to CD & pickens.....

I'd expect more until they defeat high blitz rates consistently
It's how I'd attack until they prove they can handle it.

A run blitz is not attacking Dak.

but I thought Dak was elite against the blitz...
I do remember lots of past threads and stats to support this.

But I guess Bowles's blitz version that night was way different than all the other blitzes Dak had faced cuz it had Dak confused and his feet all tangled up for most of the night.

No. Dallas WON'T run the ball. NOT can't. The problem is the high number of empty set/no back alignment shotgun formations on 3rd and 2 or 3. The same type of nonsense we've seen before.

Ask yourself why in the hell you have THREE big WRs who have great RAC are instead being run on so many "go to the buick" vertical routes and not more horizontal concepts aimed at getting them the ball in space. Schottenheimer has turned Williams into a glorified blocking dummy...which also limits Prescott's options for underneath check down options when the blitz comes.

He had poor footwork because his play-caller kept putting him in horrible positions all night. How about we not ask him to throw a ball 20 - 25 yards to convert a 3rd and 2 or 3? Maybe run the ball behind Guyton and Smith.

Schottenheimer made his own offense "feast or famine" Thursday night.

We don’t do that, CP expects us to rush with non rushing players, even though there has been basically zero success.

Williams has a 3.7 YPC average, those are poor numbers in todays league. He can punch it in the endzone but the run game needs a speed element which we sorely lack. Shottenheimer has no clue what he is doing. The sooner we get rid of him the better this team will be for it.

I don't buy this...at all. Guyton and Smith are not scrubs in the running game. I think they ran left just four or five times against the Bucs. Again, why shotgun empty or no back alignments on 3rd and 2/3? I don't believe for one second that the Cowboys can't run. I believe they can't run because they are more focused with getting the ball to their big receivers. That's what three hours spent with the all-22 looks like to me. There were very few horizontal routes run in that game. From the start it was a failed game plan. Vertical routes with nothing underneath to break the pressure. Williams was nothing but a blocking dummy in that game.
