Quinnen Williams was the one who called the players-only meeting on Monday

"Guys I called this meeting today "

11 of these would be an upgrade

If you've ever wondered whether you were a Gomer or not.... here's the test: if you saw this "players only meeting" nonsense and thought "oh boy, this is great, they're getting fired up now and are gonna leave that meeting a band of brothers!!!" (Or some version of that).....you're a Gomer.

The scheme sucks and the coach has no balls to call out his players.....that's why.
I don't think he should call out his players in public it's not the same NFL it used to be I guarantee behind the scenes both players and coaches talk to each other a little differently than they are on camera nobody needs to berate people on the sidelines anymore I get what you're saying but you don't what's going on behind the scenes this player only meeting is one thing you may not like it or believe in it but I guarantee there was some smoke going on in there that they're not gonna call people out in public anymore these are grown men making millions of dollars these are not high school kids these are not old school college kids where you have 90 players to pick from and you can make examples out of them bench you just can't do that you gotta keep their heads focused and want them to play for you..

Not they start acting like George Pickens and Terrell Owens when they get removed from teams because they become problems you can't create those environments and yes even Antonio Brown Le'veon Bell we can go back and realize that even now players that get irritated with their coaches or their teammates they just hold out and demand a trade the environment behind the scenes is different from what we're seeing I guarantee you they're angry at themselves and some of their teammates but they're not going to do it in public..

I'm sorry but I watch a lot of football and today's sports environment is different from what it used to be but I can promise you this the stuff that Brian Schottenheimer has done he's got one whole year and now 5 games under his belt with no defense no special teams and no real support what exactly is he supposed to do the way he's calling please is different if he had a damn defense and special teams so it may look like that to you but I don't think that that's who he is behind the scenes..

Schottenheimer is the HC...he is in charge of the entire game plan. All three phases of the game. Yesterday, he said Parker was 100% in charge of the defense.....that's BS, he's in charge!! If he doesn't get that, he will never succeed as a HC.

Of course he is, but he also has to delegate, there’s no time to micromanage every little thing.

Defensive players and coaches are separate entities, even though he’s working behind the scenes to get things fixed. That’s what they focused on during the extra days they had. Saying he’s responsible for every detail is unrealistic; delegation is a huge part of the job.

The NFL operates like corporations; heads of groups oversee managers, who in turn have assistant managers, each responsible for their own areas. In the end, he can push for corrections, but saying it doesn’t guarantee it gets fixed.

That’s why they traded for Joey Porter Jr. and brought in a seasoned coach to speed up the process.

If you don’t understand the chain of command, it’s just like in business, everyone answers to someone, but you can only send so many memos, hold so many closed-door meetings, or walk into rooms and say “we need to fix this” before returning to your other duties.

Even walk-around coaches must focus on their responsibilities.

There’s a reason Mike McCarthy didn’t get fired but Mike Nolan did, if head coaches were solely responsible, assistants and coordinators wouldn’t be dismissed independently. Under your theory, all head coaches would be let go while assistants and coordinators kept their jobs, which clearly isn’t how it works.

I understand what you're saying, but I don’t think you fully see it from my perspective.

I can’t figure out how you can’t look past your own anger right now. Yes, we’re disappointed and angry, but placing all the blame on him feels different to me.

He first had a bad defensive coordinator, and now he’s got an inexperienced one, while they’re flipping the whole defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4. That’s a much bigger transition than when they fired Mike Nolan and brought in Dan Quinn, who already had most of the pieces in place. Improving a 4-3 is far easier than completely changing the scheme.

You know better.

It’s not like he’s throwing shade at his DC by blaming the struggles on him.

They brought in a consultant and he’s showing confidence and empower Parker when fans and media are using the decision to try to bury him as being incompetent and powerless.

I understand the chain of command as it pertains to a HC. It's not called micromanaging, it's called ownership in your program. He is in over his head by being the OC, calling the offense and making adjustments while the defense is on the field. He has little or no time to put his stamp on his own team. This isn't Walmart or Citibank, this is football. Bringing in Pettine and making him work directly under him, tells me he's understanding that he's in over his head and needs the help. If he survives this year, he needs to bring in true OC and become a "micromanager". As a HC, he needs to be in on every decision. Every play called, in all three phases of the game, needs to go through his headset....substitution, clock management, flow of the game.....if the defense is tired, slow down the game, if your offense is struggling, don't take stupid chances on defense that will put the offense in a deeper hole. Squid kick the ball to take 3 or 4 seconds off the clock as opposed to kicking it out of the endzone, giving the other team good field position, time for a pass completion, TO and game winning FG...don't throw the ball away and settling for a tie, when you can, at least try for a game winning TD pass....OK....I'll wait for your next novel, and only read the first line before I answer. Lol

Apparently you don't understand coach speak. I never said he was blaming Parker....he should be taking ALL the blame....it comes with being a HC.

Well, even if this is ill-fated, I applaud him for doing it. First of all, not only does he have to answer to the media and endure our mob-like scrutiny, but he actually put his personality and performance out there in front of his peers for a lashing. He then had to lead the discussion in a room full of men with huge egos...

...all with unpredictable results. That's leadership. No one guarantees it's going to work, but since you ain't a lame follower, you step up and do the hard stuff.

Again, probably doomed, but I applaud him for making the effort.

I don't know. You're right about what you say, don't get me wrong. But he brought in a guy that 1) He tried to bring in before the season, 2) He didn't come in because he retired and 3) they have a personal relationship.

If you're in the booth, you can't be on the sidelines coaching people up. But if you're on the sidelines, you 100% need someone in the booth who sees the field the way you do.

And again, he's not bringing in someone with ambitions to take over. That's huge for the context here.

So, even though everyone is running with the "young guy needs help, he's clueless" trope - which could very well be true - it could also be true that he needs his boy to back him up.

Parker needs to be on the sidelines in order to see his players in the eye. Having pettine in the booth able to talk to both Parker and Schotty on different frequencies is the best situation. At least that's how I did it. Being able to switch and speak to different coaches in private is important.
He felt the pressure coming in, he should have given up the play calling duties, but as HC still having the right to change or override plays is key

I guess I don’t.

Your comment helps perpetuate the current buzz that Parker is not in charge.

You also mentioned the coach should publicly put players on blast in the media.

Is that consistent with the way you ran your program?

Most coaches support their players and coaches in public. They get the praise when things go well and the coach takes the heat when it doesn’t .

Praise publicly
Criticize privately

It’s pretty standard across most leadership functions

It would not at all shock me if Dallas beats Green Bay and defense begins a run of mid-league play.
JPJ being back helps a ton and the extended break between games gave them a lot more film and walkthrough days.

I hated the early season schedule and the stupid out of country plus early Thursday night combo is pathetic. NFL literally just crap-maxxing the product for ratings.

He's not in charge....what's so hard to understand. The buck stops with the HC. A Coordinator is just an assistant coach....an assistant that should represent his HC and follow his orders. If Jerry doesn't support that or if Schotty doesn't want that responsibility, then, Yes, he's just a puppet set up to fail.

Do you go there everyday? Have you ever been part of an athletic staff....i know I was "just" a HS coach, but I've also coached college and professional ball in all star and international games, so I'm very comfortable with what I see.
Moving on....see ya
