If you're in a movie theater, put away your cell phone!

Why do you even bother to go to the movies if you have a reason to check your phone etc? It is so easy to lump in this case. Either you keep your phone shut during the movies or you don't. How do you expect people to separate the phone addicts?

You know what?

You can think whatever you want to about it, I really don't care.

Your repeated misinformed comments in this thread show you don't know what you're talking about anyway.

It's a fact that theaters disapprove of the selfish, rude, and ignorant behavior.

If you can't clearly see that it's in appropriate and disrespectful to others, that's on you.

Come to my theater and act like a jerk, see where it gets you.

Just don't plan on seeing the end of the movie.

lol

Oh, stash.. calm down, my man.

First of all, you talk about misinformed comments, yet you continue to quote my posts like im one of the people on their cell phone the entire movie. I've clearly stated several times that my perspective in this debate is from someone who doesn't use their cell phone during a movie. I keep it on, but on silent, and don't check it until the movie is over. So ease up on the comments about what my bad behavior would get me in "your" movie theater.. like i really care anyway.

Im of the opinion that obnoxious and disrespectful behavior at the movie theater shouldn't be tolerated.. and i've had to speak up multiple times already when it has happened to my gf and I. Usually, its a group of teenagers that won't shut their traps the entire movie until you say something and call them out so everyone in their area can hear it. However, i don't believe that not turning your phone completely off during the movie is disrespecful and you'll never get me to believe that movie theaters actually expect everyone to do that the whole movie.

If someone checks their phone at some point during the movie for a few seconds, and it really bothers you that much that you take your focus off the movie and let it get you all uppity.. i truly believe you either aren't very interested in the movie, or you are way too sensitive.

Anything over just checking your phone for a second, like constantly texting, talking on your phone, etc.. and i agree, that's completely rude.

That's what i think, if you don't agree.. ok. You're entitled to your opinion just as much as i am mine, but saying someone should completely end their friendship with someone else because they sent a text during a movie is kinda silly if you ask me.

I go to the movies for the same reason you do.. to watch it. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I don't expect people to separate anything or anyone. But I would think that you could tell the diff between someone doing a quick check vs someone posted up on their phone.

That said, just count me as one who doesn't get bothered by the cell phone use I've described. The rest, y'all can have at it.

WG, bend down and check your phone all you want for 3 or 4 seconds if you get a message. It could be important.

And, some should know that you are smart enough that if you get an emergency message that you will go to the lobby to see what is up.

It is not as big of a deal as some make it.

;)

Ya know, y'all should really stop lumping folks into a single group as if all cell phone use in a theater is equal. It's not...and while I still maintain that it's not really worth a debate, because I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do. I refuse to let folks call me out as if I'm some teeny bopper who can't put their phone away for 5 mins. It's not accurate and it doesn't apply to me not even a little bit.

If you're breaking the rules of the theatre and rules of simple social etiquette, you are in one single group.

Those refusing to be considerate of others.

Between the requests of the business owner, and the myriad of people expressing their annoyance with the practice, the intent is crystal clear and unmistakable.

If you want to try to make excuses for yourself, save the effort.

Nobody wants to hear it and nobody is buying it.

If you can't sit through a 2 hour movie without checking your phone, it may be a case of technology addiction.

My quote wasn't about the act, but the defiance while offending someone else, as if your enjoyment is any more important than the next person's, it isn't.

I would not be around anyone so ignorant.

No, I'm not asking everyone to turn them off, silent is fine.

But if you're not getting a call, there's nothing relevant that can't wait until after the movie.

If you get an emergency call, by all means get up, go outside and take care of whatever you need to.

Otherwise, it can wait.

Count me as one offended by inconsiderate behavior.

What is so important that needs to be "checked" anyway?

More like someone can't take being away from their phone for two hours.

What I consider important may not be considered important to others and vice-versa.. So it doesn't matter the reason I check my phone.

What's funny is you assume that folks can't be away from their phone when I've left my phone at home, in my car, and wherever else for whatever reason. As techie as I may be, I accept that all situations are not created equal.

The expected non-answer.

Not nearly as funny as you assuming what does and doesn't bother others.

Lie to yourself about the behavior, but don't try to lie to me.

I'm clearly telling you that it's offensive and unacceptable, and so are the people who run the theaters.

The expected non-answer.
How is it a non-answer? I could give you any reason and chances are you wouldn't agree with it. So, why I check my phone or what I'm looking at it for, doesn't matter. And again, not all texts are the same. But you don't know until you do what? check it...

I don't assume anything as it relates what bothers who. You've stated your opinion as to what bothers you.. So it is what it is..

Lie to yourself about the behavior, but don't try to lie to me.
Whose lying to whom? I've told you what I do and that I'll continue to do it. I'd be lying If I told you that I'm going to stop just so I could conform to the majority opinion in this thread.

I'm clearly telling you that it's offensive and unacceptable, and so are the people who run the theaters.
Your opinion is duly noted...again.

Yeah, the 'emergency text'...

That's what I do when there's an emergency, type...

I don't assume anything as it relates what bothers who. You've stated your opinion as to what bothers you.. So it is what it is..

Yep, it is offensive, it is inconsiderate, it is unacceptable.

As long as you can't claim ignorance.

As long as you're clearly aware. If you choose to disregard the opinions, wishes, and rights of others to enjoy the movie they equally paid for, the issue lies solely with you on this one.

Your opinion is duly noted...again.

Good, I hope you give it some serious thought.

I agree, the only thing i would add is if you get a text, i don't see a problem with someone checking it who's sitting next to me, just to make sure its not an emergency.

Provided of course, they aren't getting texts every couple minutes.

This....

To you, it may be.. to others, not so much..

I think that's the general theme of this thread. Some people are offended by simple things, and others aren't. Such is life..

We can start a poll if you need the numbers more clearly defined.

But I'm not sure it's necessary when the folks who run the place showing the movie tell you to put them away.

But overall, I think our stance is more the same than different.

I, too, believe our stance is similar. Im not as concerned with what everyone else is offended by, as again, im not one to text or talk during a movie. Im simply stating that if someone pulls out their silenced phone around me during a movie for a second or two to check the time or check a text they just received.. im not offended by it, nor do i consider it disrespect towards me. That is all, and that's why i believe that the people here giving WG such a hard time are being a bit ridiculous.
