QB's are judged by playoff wins and championships only by

Your words speak loud. You're far from being alone in that category. Just goes to show the powerful influence the national media has.

Have your heard that quote, "Your reputation is like a mustard stain"?

If the national media had such a powerful influence you wouldn't have so many FANS on this board persecuting them for their opinions on Romo and the Cowboys.

Brady, Brees and Peyton Manning have all won a number of playoff games and SB's. They've all gotten over the hump and reached the pinnacle and Romo has yet to. They have a number of skins on the wall and will all be first ballot Hall of Famers 5 years after they retire. When you've accomplished what they have they're going to get a pass on some bad games and some bad throws.

Peyton was the classic choke artist...until he wasn't....and then eve things afterwards (like the int vs. the Saints and his int in the Ravens game get ignored).

People forget that Brady played with top 5 defenses (and was cheating) during all of his championships.

People forget that nobody throws more picks than Drew and he was considered a big stats no wins guy until just a few seasons ago.

If you want to crown them then crown them.....but please try to have some perspective.

As an aside I think Peyton is the greatest QB to ever play the game.

This post is true...and, if all those guys are so great why have they not won anything of late?

Because it's a TEAM game, not a friggen one man show! But, then again, some will just not let that sink in...it's Romo or nothing else. So sad...

I have given perspective all QB's are flawed including Brady, Brees and Manning but they all have what Romo doesn't championships. They're all future HOF QB's and will be crowned as such 5 years after they retire. And No way is Peyton Manning the greatest QB to ever play the game. How do you figure he's the greatest QB ever?

Tony looked real sharp yesterday. Especially to dez.

Romo did look good out there...but there is not an NFL QB that will ever miss a throw like the one he did to the rook Williams. Brady, Manning, Brees, Eli...those guys would have scored a TD on that play! Hell, even Eli would have put the ball on the rookies helmet to make sure he caught the ball!

If you had one game you had to win and could pick between Peyton and Joe Montana in their primes who would you pick and why? Peyton is a great QB that can't be argued but he's overrated! He has a 9-11 playoff record no way can that put him ahead of every QB who's played the game.. There's some who think Eli might be better than Peyton he's most certainly been better than Peyton in big games.

In the NFLN's top 100 players of "all time" list Peyton was ranked #10. If that's not being overrated I don't know what is. The fact they had him rated ahead of Brady shows how ridiculous that ranking was.

People forget because he's since won a championship with the Saints a franchise that had arguably the worst history in the NFL before he arrived and he's set a couple of all-time passing records. He holds the NFL record for most passing yards in a season and is the only QB in history to pass for over 5000 yards 3 times. He also holds the NFL record for completion percentage in a season. Although Brees has a thrown a number of regular season int's his TD to turnover ratio during the playoffs has been 22-8. He's only thrown 5 int's in 9 playoff games.

You missed my point entirely. It's not that Brees isn't a good QB. Obviously he is. It's that his narrative shifted after his team won a championship. He the player hasn't changed at all. Only you the fan (and media) did.

I prefer to live more in the here and now where the story doesn't drive my analysis and opinion. I'm weird that way.

Strong numbers and strong argument. I like the Peyton/Montana for one game question also. I would take Montana.

That's my point the narrative shifted on Brees once he won a championship and started setting NFL passing records. I never inferred that you didn't think he was a good QB. The fact is he hasn't been the same int prone QB in the playoffs that he's been during the regular season. Brees has changed he's a much more productive QB now than he was in San Diego. The narrative on Romo will also change if he wins a championship.

There you go again with the "it's all on the QB to win playoff games" mentality. Peyton played on teams not near the caliber of teams that Montana played for. What's not to understand about the NFL being a TEAM sport? There's 53 players, not 1.

This is such a stupid argument to have. Peyton was dragging teams that couldn't defend to save their life to 12 and 13 win seasons. Year after year. The one year his team's defense stepped up in the playoffs he won it all.

And Eli has been better in big games? Granted he had two impressive playoff runs but his statistics are the definition of average and he is mistake prone. I would give anyone Eli to my Peyton. All else equal the Peyton side dominates.

Same with any other QB in history. Impossible to prove but fun to think about.

Montana won championships with 2 completely different SF teams. In 81 he won a SB with Ricky Patton, Earl Cooper Johnny Davis, Walt Easley and Paul Hofer as his main rushing threats none of which averaged more than 3.6 yards a carry. He won with Dwight Clark, Freddie Solomon, Earl Cooper and Charlie Young as his main receiving threats. Practically the same team went 6-10 the year before and went 3-6 the year after during the 82 strike season. That wasn't a high caliber team in 81 but it was led by a high caliber QB who made that team special by bringing them from behind in a game they should have lost.

Eight years later Montana won a championship with a completely different SF team. In 4 SB appearances Montana didn't suffer a single turnover and won one of his championships on a last ditch drive with only seconds remaining. Mannings career has been made off his consistent regular season performances and his 4 league MVP awards. He's been nothing special in postseason where he has a losing record and has only 5 more TD's than turnovers.

How about this: both teams are completely equal except for the QB (purely a hypothetical question, I know). Who would you choose?

That's the reason Peyton is rated so highly he carries his teams but he can't carry them in the playoffs. The season Peyton won it all his TD to turnover ratio in the playoffs and SB was 3-7. His passer rating was only 70.5 during the postseason. Against Baltimore his passer rating was 39.6 and he escaped with a win. He was damn lucky he was going up against Rex Grossman in the SB or he probably wouldn't have a championship. Peyton was losing to Brady every year in the playoffs and Eli's beaten Brady twice in the SB. I don't care what anyone says Peyton is overrated. Yes he's a great QB but far from the greatest QB ever.
