Who is seeking out the bad? I asked a probabilities, crystal ball type of question and you get aggravated about it? Who says I am seeking out the bad. Maybe I am asking the question to see how current perception meets reality later this season, next year, or three years from now.

I don't know why asking this question bothers you so bad. I didn't suggest that I hoped that any would be a bust, or that I thought any would be a bust. I am asking about current perception.

Webb was touted as the next best thing since sliced bread, then later he looked pretty bad and played like a guy who might even deserve to be cut, but has redeemed himself of late. How is this question any different than asking how many wins the Cowboys will get this year?

Because some people confuse any critical conversation as negative.

Nobody called Escobar a bust, and nobody is rooting for it.

But some people just attack anything that isn't sunshine and rainbows.

If you believe a player is totally judged by his rookie year. He may have a more limited role this season but I think he was drafted with the future in mind not just today

I don't believe a player is totally judged by their rookie year but the Cowboys have been a mediocre team for 3 years and need immediate contributions from their high draft picks. When you're an 8-8 team with a HC who's trying to save his job you're thinking about today and the future with your high draft picks. Garrett is in no position with two 8-8 seasons under his belt to be looking past this season because he may not be here. The Cowboys drafted Escobar anticipating he would have large role in the offense this season. It didn't take long for the Cowboys to figure out Fasano wasn't what they were looking for he only last 2 seasons in Dallas. Bennett only lasted as long as he did because he could block.

He ended up producing more in one season in NY than he did in 4 seasons with the Cowboys. He still wasn't good enough for the Giants who dumped him after only one season. If Escobar isn't more productive than both Fasano and Bennett in the passing game he won't see a second contract with the Cowboys either. The Cowboys drafted him to make plays in the passing game and if he doesn't produce he'll be another wasted #2 pick.

He has yet to play the 1st contract. I think his role will be some what limited this season that does not mean he can't be productive in that role this season and I expect him to be. In terms of being a bust that will not be determied in 1 season

With respect to the two 2nd round tight end busts since '06, I have to hope the third time will be a charm, and Escobar will pan out. Frankly, Witten has caused the bust of previous tight ends with his high level of performance, and surely he has to start declining soon. This will let the light shine on Escobar

Witten didn't cause Fasano and Bennett to go bust. Fasano was drafted to block for Bledslow who was nailed to the turf. Once he got benched for the more athletic, mobile Romo Fasano became expendable. The Cowboys thought Bennett would be a better receiver than Fasano and drafted him to compliment Witten to add a new dimension to the Cowboys passing game. He didn't know where to lineup and wasn't the athletic freak he was built up to be. You could tell from day one Bennett wasn't going to pan out. He was a lazy good for nothing bleep.

He was reduced to mostly a blocker. The plan with Escobar is the same plan the Cowboys had with Bennett for him to compliment Witten and add a new dimension to the offense. I would think the Cowboys are anticipating 50-60 catches for 450-550 yards and 6-9 TD's with Escobar which is about what NE was getting out of Aaron Hernandez. If Escobar doesn't put up many catches or yards but could be a redzone threat producing 7-10 TD's that would make huge impact. He must make an impact in the passing game whether it be moving the chains or scoring TD's in the redzone or he'll end up a disappointment.

to answer the question, I would say it would be Escobar but I don't really think he will be a bust. I do believe he was mainly drafted as a Red zone target with the potential to replace Witten on down the road. Time will tell on this one but I think he will score some TD's this season

He has to be productive or he's not going to pan out. He has to show at least some flashes this season or the pick is going to going to be under scrutiny. We're playing in era where rookies make an immediate impact. With all the OTA's and mini camps rookies are more prepared than ever to contribute right out of the gate. Garrett needs his high draft picks to contribute this year he can't afford another 500 season.

Even previous busts like Fasano and Bennett did not look as ineffective by this point..

Escobar may turn out to be player, but to me, he looks more like a sixth round project than a second round pick. He is slow and can't block. IMO John Phillips looked better during his rookie preseason than Escobar has.

Easy, it's Escobar, needs to put on twenty pounds and get in the weight room, not even close to being strong enough to play in the league.

It is easily Escobar. How on Earth can a guy that has been in a college weight program for 3 years only do 12 reps? I

Sounds to me that these comments are calling him a bust already.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Escobar turns into a good TE?

It's amazing the hate he gets for being a rookie. Being behind Witten ain't easy I guess.

Man, I remember watching Sean Lee when he first started playing. He looked like S#*%! Always out of position, getting pushed around. But I think he's gonna wind up being a player in this league. LOL.

I actually do not disagree. He has to be productive in the role he is in. We both know the main TE is Witten and that is not going to change however while Escobar may not see as many throws his way how he functions in his role especially in the redzone can go a long way. But again part of the draft is not just today if what you are looking for is a fix for today then do it through FA the draft is still about the future of a club

Some people think that a College player drafted in the 2nd should be able to come in and play at the NFL level right away.
That is totally ridiculous thinking. The difference between College and the Pros is a wide margin, and just because a player with potential cannot come in right away and produce like he was the best 2nd rounder in the NFL is just ..lazy!

These guys are not robots, and it takes time to develop some while others may or may not succeed, but to expect a rookie, especially at TE to come in and be a gang buster right off the bat is foolish...but then again...

Then you're reading the whole thread wrong.

It's about which player they feel stands the biggest chance of being one.

It's an unpleasant reality and does happen.

And chances are, one draft pick from 2013 will not work out.

I consider us lucky if its only one.

So you have a differing opinion on which player is most likely to be a bust?

First of all, I don't view the world on those kind of terms, I just wait and see. But, I also don't put the world on their shoulders just because they were drafted in the 2nd and have not even played a real game.

They weren't looking to fix anything with Escobar they're looking to add a dimension to what they already have at the position. If you're in Garrett's shoes you have to to start thinking about today because there may not be a tomorrow. When you're an 8-8 team you're looking for players who can contribute immediately. It's about today and the future with these players.

Has to be Escobar, partly because a 5th or 6th rounder can't really bust. It's illogical to expect to hit on those that often anyway.

Using a 2 TE set they were looking to add to that group add to that Witten is getting up in age. I know the situation Garrett is in and if what you want in quick fix you go FA most rookies are going to have ups and downs. He sure as heck is not going to be the #1 target in terms of TE this season however I think they like his ability and even talked about adding weight and strenght in terms of his future. He is a pass catching TE never asked to block and when they took him I don't think they looked at just this season.

As expected. If the topic isn't positive praise, some people just can't handle it.

Thank you for proving my point.

Back at you...if people don't agree with everything negative they just cannot seem to handle it.

Funny how that works.

I don't know what happened to the Stash I knew a long time ago, but you have turned sour on anything positive Cowboys.

And, the only point you have is on top of the noggin of yours.

Carry on...

nope, not calling him a bust already at all, but looking at the first three picks from the draft, and that's the only players I'd consider that would potentially being draft busts because anyone picked after the first three rounds are players with limitations or are raw and need a lot of work anyway...so out of those first three players selected, Escobar is clearly not strong and can't block very well enough and least likely to contribute right away...and therefore most likely to be a bust, and history from the cowboys second round picks over the last ten years have proven that...
