Callahan Called The Ultimate Bus Driver's Game

Basically they played it close and short to deal with the Giants pass rush but the defense clearly saved that game for us..

Romo averaged only 5.37 yards per attempt in Sunday's season-opening win over the New York Giants, the lowest average of any victory during his career.

This was only the second time in his career that the Cowboys won with Romo averaging fewer than 6 yards per attempt. (Thank-you Defense)

“I think we were patient,” offensive coordinator Bill Callahan said. “I think that the way that the defense played in the game, we played complementary football.” (Complementary? Translation - Bus Driver Game Plan)

With the Cowboys playing with a lead essentially the entire game, the Dallas passing game was pretty much a dink-and-dunk operation all night.
(You mean as opposed to running the ball more? No it was dink and dunk from the get go.)

Only two of Romo’s 49 throws traveled at least 20 yards, neither of which he completed. By comparison, Romo averaged 4.6 such down field shots per game last season. (And one of them fell out of the sky like a dove drilled with buck shot on opening day of bird hunting season.)
Here's some sunshine for ya folks:

“I think we’re a pretty explosive offense and have been for a long time,” said tight end Jason Witten, who caught eight passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns. “I do think that was a good thing, what we did the other night. We knew their pass rush was going to be good and we talked about underneath throws, finding ways to stay ahead of the down and distance. I think that’s the reason why we had 74 plays in that 37 minutes of offense, was because we took what they were giving us.

“There’s going to be times for big strikes. Any time you have the opportunity to throw it up to 88, you’re going to have a chance to come down with it. I think we’re going to have plenty of the big play.”

Im not saying I'd like this to be the style of offense played all year but it apparently was a smart play for this game and more importantly this team (Giants). Peopleon here have been screaming about the middle of the field being open and JG never uses it even wit a Jason Witten on the field. Well now someone came up with a perfect plan to use it and not let Romo get in trouble, let the oline get some confidence and let the D flex its new muscles.... And the result was a win..... Are you complaining or just pointing out how the game was one?

I don't think it was planned that way.
They said that the Giants showed them a few new wrinkles so they adjusted. They adjusted conservatively and did not feel the need to take extra risks when the team got a 17 point lead,
I doubt they thought they would give up 450 yards passing to make it close at the end.
Plus, Romo played hurt the entire second half.

I'm not saying I fully agree, just saying that is how it went down.

We won, who cares, you ever see one team give back a win? They dont ask you "how you won?" they ask you "if you won?"

Definitely wasn't based on how the game was called.

Romo took what the defense gave him.

For the first time in maybe his entire career, Romo didn't get over anxious vs this style of defense and managed the game appropriately.

whats it matter if its bus driver or something else, have you ever heard of a team, (except the one in texas, basketball i believe) give back a win in the NFL or been questioned on how they won?

$108 Million Bus Driver is my primary complaint. Then u have 6 extra opportunities with minimal results. The Giants always seem to give us fits these days at home so the bright side is we won but it's not looking so good offense wise down the stretch...

Huh? Those "6 extra opportunities" turned into 24 points. (And one of the ones that didn't was an "opportunity" inside our own 10-yard line). And the first week of the season is a little early to be talking about "down the stretch".

It sure didn't look to me like the game plan was to dink and dunk our way down the field. Romo held the ball a long time on many of those plays. The downfield opportunities he was looking for simply weren't materializing.

We only got 3 points off the 1st 3 turnovers and two turnovers resulted in 2 defensive TD's, that leaves one turnover for the offense to score on. Your math is wrong, we didn't get 24 offensive points off 6 turnovers, we squandered them for the most part....

Hey remember the time when romo optioned witten out from the line to the slot before the snap, Then he got a free release and scored a Td.

The game was managed nicely especially since the qb was hurt.

Anyone who thinks what they watched Sunday was a bus driver isn't worth debating football over because they do not know what they are looking at. Which is probably why they are always complaining to begin with.

The Giants said Dez isn't beating us. I bet we can stop Murray with our front 7. We'll take our chances with Witten and Austin. Romo took what the defense gave him. He played a very smart game. If you can beat a team while taking what they give you, you do it. It would have been a lot closer without the turnovers of course. If KC does the same to Dez then expect them to once again take what the defense gives them.

Because of the injury to romo I can't imagine any scenario where they stay back and double Dez honestly.

I imagine they make romo prove he can throw the ball and blitzed the hell out of him.

Hopefully we pick it up and make them pay with big plays to Dez and Dunbar.

Romo played good this game, and he also played it very smartly. We're so use to Romo carrying this team that the first game the defense stepped up big, we're calling our very good QB a "bus driver".

Funny stuff, also I don't think a "bus driver" QB would have 9 4th quarter comebacks from the past 2 years combined. But that's just me, I could be missing something here ...

There were far to many plays where Romo had all the time in the world and did little to nothing. But anybody who still defends Romo is just a straight up homer these days....

It's not 'we.' It's just CowboysFan74. Unless he's got a mouse in his pocket.

We have a club or something? Because, sign me up. I'm a straight-up homer when it comes to appreciating the play of a very good QB that we're lucky to have.

Lol I know, I was just trying to be nice and not single him out by himself. Though, maybe he does have a mouse in pocket. *shrug*
