Myself I'm happy with the win and sick of the nit picking based on 1 or 2 calls in a game. There are many play in a game. Dallas is in 1st has swept the NFC East on the 1st go around and did so with a bunch of no names on defense. Sorry gets old hearing the whining after a win.

Good play calling is about setting up options for future plays. If you throw it deep every time you get 2nd and 2, there is no disguise as to what you are going to do. And if you miss it, now you have a tricky 3rd and 2 which can stall out your drive. And in the end, if you can get more first downs than your opponent, you're typically going to win the game. That's really how the West Coast Offense evolved. It was Bill Walsh seeing that tallying more first downs than the opponent will likely win you the game.

My issue with the playcalling is that we kept using shotgun and even worse, empty backfield...particularly on 1st and 2nd down. The entire defense knows you're not going to run the ball. And now they can come up with all of these different blitzes. It wasn't like the offense was shredding the Eagles using shotgun and empty backfield sets. In fact, Romo kept getting hit.

And we still snap the ball at the last .00001 seconds when we are on the road. It may work early on, but in the end it will hurt the team. We saw this today as Romo started to get into the habit of doing that and in the end he threw a pick. When we got the ball back, we started snapping the ball earlier and drove right down and scored a TD.

To me, it's a triad of Garrett-Callahan-Romo that worries me. Callahan calls to many pass plays, shot guns and empty backfields. Romo likes to audible out of running plays the hint of a blitz and audibles too much. And Garrett doesn't keep them in check.

And that's what pissed me off the most, shotgun formation on 1st and 10

I'm way more irritated about draining the play clock down to the final second on virtually every snap. The oline has virtually no chance on a passing down when your down to a couple of seconds and the QB is yelling "hurry up".

Well if there is a such thing as a "good loss" why can't there be a "bad win"? LOL

You are right, we never almost gave up the game because the eagles scored no TD's. But you can't tell me that after Romo's pick and the eagles were in the redzone u were not concerned?

Sure. Concerned because the game was still in the balance. I just don't think that means we almost lost.

But look, we're arguing semantics at this point. Let's just enjoy the win.

Go Cowboys.

I thought the denver game was considered a good loss?

Not by me, there were many good things they did in the game but in the end it was a loss. a month from now it is still a loss. There were some good things and bad things in this game but it was a win and a big one putting Dallas 3-0 in the division and for fans to sit here complaining really show what crappy fans we have.

Jerry Jones certainly treated it as a good loss which was weird by the owner lol

This was a great win. The Eagles fans were BOOING the Eagles because they were getting owned by the Cowboys. It doesn't get any better than that. As an added bonus, they found out their 3rd string QB is actually a pick machine, so they have to live with Foles.

To me, the playcalling was fine compared to the officiating. The boys in stripes took a completion to Dez Bryant away, missed an obvious roughing call on Romo, blew a blatant pass interference on Dez in the endzone, and overturned the Wilcox interception without (to me) conclusive evidence.

The playcalling was a thing of beauty by comparison.

After a long pass play on 2nd down I don't like to see another pass play on 1st and 10.

The horrible play calling through out the game which almost led to a loss. I just can;'t understand why if we get a nice 15-20 gain on 2nd down, why do we pass on the next play? I was so irritated with the call to pass on 2nd and 2 at midfield because we probably could have scored on that drive. The defense was very strong and impressive today but the only thing i hate seeing is Romo with those step back throws that can get picked off along with the dumb play calling. And why does Romo have to be in shotgun formation on 1st down?

Just seems like we were doing everything we could not to run the ball and drain the clock. But like I said It's a win and I will take it and the 1st place lead in the division

Penalties, officiating and play selection based on game situation was poor

Garrett doesn't hold them in check, because Garrett has no clue... He's already demonstrated that...

He holds other players in check.

Murray misses a blocking assignment and gets benched.

Tanner screws up a couple of times and he doesn't get back into the game.

Carter stinks in coverage and gets benched.

Church screws up and we start inserting Heath more.

I wouldn't say he doesn't have a clue, but he fails to manage Romo properly. Romo isn't always perfect and has his weaknesses and can put himself in bad positions at times. I will say this about Parcells, the audibling down to the .0001 seconds on the play clock and not running the ball and using all of this shotgun and empty backfield on 1st and 2nd down would have stopped a long time ago.

Yeah, I'm sure he does... Felix Jones, Roy Williams and a bunch of other scrubs... Marion Barber not starting for not wearing a tie, only to be inserted afterwards.. "Benching" in the pre-season.. Never benched anybody, but when Callahan and Marinelli and Kiffin are in control, all of the sudden JG has found the light... Please

And the fact that Romo has been audibling just shows how much JG was in control.. At Leah Dallas made adjustments in the second half today unlike when JG was actually in control..

Yeah that 1st drive after halftime was the turning point of the game and very important

This is correct. Although, I don't think it really catches the defense off-guard, because they ought to expect you to throw it on 2nd and 2, for the exact reason you mention.
The offensive play-calling is fine. We put up a lot of points. People just like to second-guess the calls that don't work, no matter *what* the results are. It's a simple as that, and can be disregarded, really, when the offense is productive.

Well I feel like at times our passing attack is very predictable and very conservative. Most cases i'd expect for Garrett to run it on 2nd down. It depends on what we did on 1st down.

We had a 8 yd gain by passing on 1st down and then on 2nd and 2 we passed again instead of running it to get the 1st down lol

We won by two touchdowns against the "high powered offense" (at least thats what we heard all week) of the eagles.
And we have silly threads like this.
