For the record the Lions didnt do anything special to take Dez away unless you call cover 2 special. And....he was open a lot. Lions played some kind of zone coverage with two deep safeties AND the MLB covering short middle. Deep middle wide open a ton and Romo didnt go there but Once to Dez on a deep in route.

Dez open deep middle Romo doesn't see him https://gamerewind.nfl.com pic.twitter.com/IoITNEnRcG

Similar route combo later. Romo sees Dez and hits him for a nice gain https://gamerewind.nfl.com pic.twitter.com/55VJqYCCWq

Blitz coming Dez has the whole middle to work Romo doesn't see him. https://gamerewind.nfl.com pic.twitter.com/MZ855dxoIV

Go route and safety to Dez stops his peddle. Romo doesnt go to him. https://gamerewind.nfl.com pic.twitter.com/18Crldkf9x

@sgw94 @sgw94 @espn_macmahon man under and a man over top you guys can't be serious right?

@thejcruz89 @espn_macmahon they hit the same route vs same coverage later for 17. That safety has no shot there. Other safety jumped a route

If you doubt Dez was open this is the sideline view of him clearing zone LB https://gamerewind.nfl.com pic.twitter.com/dJWM9oMKMR

Theres a reason Tampa 2 was invented. Because if you run cover 2 and your MLB doesn't drop to deep middle that area is open.
For the record Im not calling Romo out as much as im saying, yes Dez was open. I don't know Romo's progressions.

It wasn't the fact that Dez was open on some plays but the fact that Fairley or someone else was in his chest. For most passing plays, Romo had time enough to make just 1 read. Surely not enough time to let Dez run his route as depicted in the pics.

Thats not really true though.... Their pass rush was not nearly as effective the second half...

No way Williams should have been targeted so often with such little success.

Very true. TWill wasn't ready for all those targets and Dez should've been targeted more.

I look for Dez to have a monster game with the Vikings.

This is my take on it as well.

The one thing I've noticed about Dez is he doesn't come out of the blocks particularly fast. Maybe it's just because he is a big guy, however, he just doesn't seem to be able to create much separation until he is roughly, I dunno, 8-10 yards down the field.

In a game like the one against Detroit, there just wasn't a lot of time for Dez to get himself open before Romo progressed to the next read.

Wow this just makes Dez argument on the sideline even more important IMO. We had ever chance to just destroy that team and the coaches did nothing to help here. Unreal that this coach is so stubborn that he can't get out of the way of the team winning

Seriously, Romo was under more duress than he has been for a while -- that probably plays a part in it.

Idk how that is relevant. If anything that means u should look to ur #1 more often. I wish we would just come clean and admit romo has not played well for a big portion of this season.
