We have been way too easily coaxed to think this thing is pr THAT complex....? Really ****** organization/management could make you think you are reinventing the Star to score a TD...

2nd in the League in takeaways, though

Doesnt matter...............we were plus 4 in the Detroit game and still lost.

We are only like the 2nd team in NFL history to do that............................LOL

Just like we are the only team in NFL history to lose a home game when scoring 45 or more points.

The hits just keep on coming........................................................

If we can get Carr, Mo, Lee, Carter/Sims, Durant, Church, Wilcox, Hatcher, Selvie and Ware all healthy and on the field together for a while, our D will improve as we move into December, IMO.

We have had to replace the entire DL. Everyone loves to point their fingers at our secondary. Exactly what did we think was going to happen when the pass rush all but disappeared?

Ten and six, baby.
I will not back down until they have seven losses.

That said:

I worry about both sides of the ball for various reasons.

It seems when one side succeeds, the other falters.

Why? I couldn't say... Well I could, but the reason have been rehashed ad nauseum here.

All I hope is for wins. Whether it be a one point win or a thirty point win.

Just win. And when the playoffs start and Our Boys get there- who cares about point differential.

A win advances no matter how wide.

That is what I hope.

10 - 6 seems a stretch. Giants and Bears on the road might both be hazardous. Brees and Rodgers look like real beatdowns, especially without Claiborne or some other occurring injury to the secondary.
It's ironic, really. All these knee-jerk reaction moves (get rid of rob ryan's 3-4 in favor monte kiffin's tampa 2, stripping jason garrett's playcalling duties and installing a WC offense oriented bill callahan....etc.) were designed as quick turnaround solutions to help push us over the top.

In actuality, these moves were so poorly planned out that not only are they not helping us, but have actually set the organization back 2-3 years. Ordinarily, we would have already formulated a good guess of jason garrett's abilities as a HC and fired him, instead we tried to slap a band aid to a bullet wound by bringing in an OC who doesn't even share the same offensive philosophy. While rob ryan ran a defense that was down to 3rd string players (still doing better than this year's D), we flipped the defense entirely to a new scheme with the same players, crazy enough to expect a better result.

Nobody talks about our complete lack of identity on both sides of the ball. We have a west coast offense guy calling essentially norv turner's offense, and are trying to run a tampa-2 scheme with 3-4 personnel. We can't even evaluate players correctly at this point because half the contingency is questioning the scheme fit. I certainly don't question this organization's will to win, but clearly the right people are not in charge when haphazard moves are made without any sort of foresight whatsoever. (I haven't even talked about all the bad contracts paid out to washed up players on the books yet)

The Cowboys don't have patience anywhere but the head coach and the offense he runs, one which it seems has reached the zenith of its potency and at times its usefulness. Bringing in Claiborne, who is primarily a man coverage guy and then immediately overhauling to 4-3 cover 1/2 zone leaves one scratching one's head for sure. The turnovers are up, but the unit is a sieve against teams with winning records and above average quarterback play.

Does the ranking factor in takeaways? That's been the one shining spot of the defense, one that is way better than last year.

I do not believe so. It is ranked on yards, mostly. It is a lot like how back in the Campo/Zimmer days they would have statistically impressive defenses in terms of ranking, but we would still lose because we could not score and the defense that would bend all game would eventually break. There the problem was not giving up yards, but not getting turnovers. This team is the opposite.

The turnovers that this defense has generated should have resulted in more points, easily resulting in at least another win.

Good teams are about synergy. It just seems that when the defense is playing well, the offense is off. When the offense is on, the defense is off. The bigger issue there is that we are running the same offense we have run for seven years. There should be no reason why it continues to sputter.

Until that balance is found and we figure out how we win, this up and down roller coaster will continue.

Here is why I'm not as disappointed with the defense as others:

- We are 17th in the league in points allowed, which is much more important than yards (lots of garbage yards from Eagles, Commanders, Giants)
- Throw out the Broncos game and we are top 10 in scoring
- We have had 2 pretty dominating games (Commanders, Eagles) and 1 very good game (Chiefs)
- We played the Lions pretty good until our secondary players started dropping like flies
- We are creating more turnovers, which is giving our offense more opportunity
- Love the energy and players flying to the ball
- We will improve with experience and getting players healthy

Meanwhile, we have changed defensive coordinators how many times? Interesting is it not? Nope, nothing wrong with an at times apoplectic, slipshod, lackadasical offense that can only manage 3 points in 30 minutes of football. Good thing the Cowboys at least have patience in one area, otherwise Mr. Garrett would be out of a job!

All of this is true (except there's no reason to throw out the Broncos game), and it's helpful perspective. We've also played our share of good QBs so far. Up until the fourth quarter of the Lions game, I was just starting to get really comfortable with the changes we've made on defense in recent weeks. Then the wheels obviously fell off again.

Either way, though, overall, we're still too easy to throw against. The turnovers certainly help, but when good QBs can have that kind of efficiency throwing on you, it puts the team in a really, really delicate situation. It's just got to get better somehow if we're ever going to achieve our objectives. That said, with the guys we're going to get back coming back healthy, I think it really can be pretty good. Heath impressed me, and Wilcox was coming on before he got hurt. I suspect when they're both back, we're going to see some more passing down reps shared between those two and Church. If Webb shows anything and Claiborne can get back healthy after the bye to the point where we play all game like we did against the Lions for three quarters, we can hang with good teams. Of course, that means our offense has to really be clicking, too, which is also possible given what we've seen early in the season so far.

I really hope we don't go into next year with Kiffen. His scheme is tired and so is he. (and so am I)

I believe in Jerruh!

I mean Ryan was OBVIOUSLY the reason this team was 8-8 last year...I mean look at what Ryan has done in New Orlenas?!?

I mean based on Kiffin's success in stopping Pac 12 teams he was a brilliant choice by a brilliant football mind! All hail Jerruh...GM genius.

I mean who cares that New England has been quoted as saying they ran their organization opposite if what Dallas did...I mean they only won 3 super bowls. Ryan only has the NO defense completely turned around...who cares that we are last in total defense and have set a record for 400 yard passing games...

IT WAS RYAN'S fault!!!

Jerruh apologists...begin...

and also we have a team that wont or cant run the ball which keeps the defense on the field more the one thing that is so disappointing for me is they cant get a stop when needed not one garret puts them on the field to help win a game and they cant get a stop
