Proof the NFL hates the Cowboys?

Let's be honest, the NFL LOVES the cowboys...crappy teams that play against Dallas still get national exposure the week that they play dallas...the NFL loves parity and the only way you get that is if every team gets the same coverage....Dallas helps that immensely, even though they haven't been more than mediocre in quite a while...the NFL would love dallas to be a top contender because the revenue would sky rocket if they were on national TV more...I wouldn't be surprised if this Sunday's game is one of the top viewed games of the year so far

Surprised people seem to forget that the NFL is really just 32 billionaires with big egos. It is only human nature for the other 31 owners to be a little jealous of the national attention the Cowboys get, win or lose. While they might like the business side Jerry brings to the NFL and the ratings Cowboys games bring which in turn brings big money, I'm sure most would love for Jerry and the Boys to taste a little humble pie and feel what it is like to be a normal team.

When the majority of the highest level of a company feels one way, I'd imagine it filters down to lower levels. I wouldn't be surprised if some refs can feel that hidden animosity of a majority of owners toward the Cowboys and subtly and maybe unconsciously call games with that in the back of their minds. It wouldn't shock me. Although no formal anti-Cowboy bias is out there I'm sure, the informal bias I'm sure is.

If you have 32 bosses and the vast majority you feel would like you to do things a certain way, you probably want to please them or what you perceive would please them.

So I think Drew is right. There is a concealed hate toward the "unfairness" of the popularity of the Cowboys by the other owners ( kind of like average/poor people often have toward the rich ). This would probably manifest itself through the lower echelons of the NFL, creating a bias against them.

Not really. NFL loves the Cowboys and rightfully so. Cowboys have the biggest fan base all around the country and is a big ratings machine. Nobody would damage their most valuable asset. Cowboys are the most valuable asset.

the Horse Collar rule to me is the one that is by far the most questionable. Players were horsecollared since the beginning of the game but only when TO got injured was there any hue and cry about it.

It would be foolish to think executives and refs are exempt from hating the Cowboys. The horse collar breaks bones so I can understand that one. You did forget the rule about plays ending when the helmet comes off after Wittens run a few years back.

Personally, I think the NFL loves the Cowboys

They get the maximum amt of coverage without having to compete for a championship.

Stephen Jones is on the Competition Committee

Jerry is basically the head of NFL Network

And Jerry is the driving finisher of almost every major deal the NFL has made in the 10 years. CBA (Players and refs), Concussion litigation, etc.

no WG, you are wrong because:

the NFL hates the cowboys
the media hates the cowboys
the referees hate the cowboys
even cowboy fans hate the cowboys

I always wondered something like this with the timing of when the league introduced Free Agency.

Right when Jimmy had stockpiled the Cowboys deep with quality NFL talent.

We had subs better than some teams starters.

With FA you just can't do that any longer.

I don't think the league hates Dallas, but I think they feel that it is a cash cow for the league. The other teams are not as big of a cash cow, so they use Dallas' popularity at their expense. They are really trying to pump some life in the Jaguars in London and playing the other teams just ain't going to cut it. So insert the Cowboys and now you have a stadium sold out well in advance.

The big rule that Pearson missed was the cap penalty the team suffered. I think the league is now run by Robert Kraft and John Mara, so we see that type of nonsense. I'm skeptical of the refs, but I feel they are not really a part of the league. I think there are some refs that have an obvious bias and hatred against Dallas. Although some of that may just be pure incompetence.

I'm still not for the horse collar rule. I've seen it done a gazillion times and maybe 1% of the time it has led to an injury. Of course, it came when Roy did it to T.O. who was treated completely differently when he was in Philly.

I don't know if it proves anything per say, but in the Jerry Jones era, I don't think that there are any other teams that come close to inking the number of new team-specific penalties as the Cowboys have.

I wouldn't say that there was anything conspiratorial going on inside the NFL front office, but there is something going on procedurally and/or as a function of human nature that consistently manages to skew calls with regards to this team.

The fact that this team is very high profile and generates a lot of hate would account for the added interest in our players and how they play. The league probably receives a billion emails complaining about the Cowboys...

FWIW, I was watching that Detroit team among mostly Giants and Pats fans at the bar, and everybody there thought that the refs were trying to help the Lions or screw the Cowboys...again, like it was a funny trend. I don't know how anybody could have though that that was a balanced performance by the Zebras.

Ya, the NFL is a business and money talks. Nobody brings in more money for the league than Dallas.

And, yet, Dallas doesn't have one Monday Night Football game or , aside from Turkey day, not one Thursday Night game on the NFL network.

Yes, Tampa, Miami, Houston all do..

yea, the NFL is loving the Boys.

I was listening to the fan and Drew Pearson said that the nfl dislikes jerry so much that they constantly change rules to take away advantages cowboys use . He gave these examples :

The emmitt smith helmet rule . Emmitt use to take off his helmet after scoring the nfl banded that .

Michael Irvin push off rule . The nfl starting cracking down on offensive PI after Irvin's success .They even took away a clean catch from Irvin in Super Bowl 30 vs Pittsburgh .

The hands to the face rule . Erik Williams use to dominate by any means necessary and they started this rule because of Erik .

The horse collar rule . Roy Williams used this effectively but the nfl changed the rules and banned it .

It's really interesting when you think all these rule changes came from us !

Did I miss any ...?

A lot of players were taking their helmets off after scoring which is why the NFL cracked down on it. Favre did it in the 96 SB after throwing a TD pass. It was after that when the NFL put a stop to it.

The NFL makes more money when as many teams as possible are relavent or have a chance to be relavent. Keeping the Cowboys down allows fans of other teams to have hope which they didn't have in the early nineties.

Irvin did push off a lot, EW did shove DL in the face on a regular basis, Barber did stiff arm to defenders face alot. Roy Williams was seriously hurting people by horse collaring them and bringing all his weight down on the back of their legs.

I guess the point being that at the TIME, those things weren't illegal.

I only argue with the Irvin 'pushed off a lot.' That was in an era when DB's could just about tackle the WR at the line of scrimmage. Watch the Indy vs. NE games back with Manning vs. Brady. The NE defensive backs were playing nowhere near any semblance of what the rules were. Just grab and hold...and tackle if they needed to.

I think people hate Irvin and that's why they bring it up. They can't stand the fact that Irvin owned so many DB's, particularly their poster child for DB's of that era in Darrell Green.

Sorry Darrell, Playmaker made mince meat out of you because he was the better player.

At one point in the last decade Dallas directly accounted for about a fifth of NFL revenue, there are 32 teams.

22% of NFL fans identify as Cowboys fans.
