Aikman's expection for the offense was a grade A. So yes, he (and me too) would probably grade them a C/C+ right now....and that is very disappointing.
The expectation for the defense was a C+ or hopefully even a B-. But it is an F or D- at best.

Let's not confuse the two. One is a C/C+ and the other is an F/D-.

Based on expectatons, the offense may be more disappointing (at least I think so). But that is relatively speaking to what was expected....they are still much better than the defense overall.
I mean, the defense is giving up 500-600 almost every week!

Anyway, Troy is generally candid, so I like hearing his input.

As was pointed out, Troy is too media savvy for such extreme comments.

But I find it telling that he would be so critical of the offense. An offense run by his very good friend Jason Garrett.

It's a position I definitely agree with, but I'm surprised that Aikman publicly criticized it as much as he did.

How would these comments be "extreme" if they are the truth?

This offense has been a problem for years. The numbers have been very misleading. Take away the improvisational plays by Romo and WRs, and this is a pedestrian offense. It has never been one to consistently beat opposing defenses by design, scheme and execution. Everyone is at fault to some degree.

Extreme in my opinion to find such a noted Garrett supporter saying them.

Aikman has always been a big proponent of Garrett, it was surprising to me to see him so critical of what is obviously Garrett's side of the ball.

Meh, he was also a proponent of Chad Hutchinson.

So in no way can anyone express that Romo is having a flat second half of the season without your label, mi amigo?

It's not just 1 players fault. If you believe this, which you seem to hence your numerous "I hate Romo" posts, then you're ignorant on football matters.

I don't think he's saying that at all, but more that Romo hasn't been as good lately as he had been earlier in the season.

And I would agree with that.

And in some measure, that is contributing to the overall struggles too.

But what your implying is that Romo's play is the cause of the teams failures. And that's just not true.

Not at all.

I'm saying it doesn't help matters.

Nobody us laying anything solely on him.

Which is maybe the most perplexing part of this whole thing. Romo was supposed to have a lot more influence into the game planing and play calling this season.

Why when this offense struggles as it does dont we go hurry up? Why must we continue to run every play to near 00 on the play clock.

There is something more to this that none of us know.

This is what I've been harping on and what concerns me most.

Thank you. We have three "smart" guys- including the QB putting these game-plans together. And the game-plans have been awful! It has NOT been Garrett. It has NOT been Callahan. It's been a collaborative effort of three "smart"
men making these play-calls and overall philosophy for each game..

That irks me more than anything else. Romo is no longer as accurate as he was- we've all seen it in action, and I'm speaking in shades of grey- not black or white so no need to blast me. He feels footsteps when there aren't any (not that I blame him) ((someone was posting earlier scoffing about Romo missing on the mere 3-5 plays where everything else goes right, but I think those are THE times to he HAS to hit. That is when the elite hit, that is when he should hit- when he has Dez streaking down the sideline open and overthrows him- that's a huge play and he has been badly missing them. Nothing to scoff at.)) these days, but the game-plans going in are so basically flawed you can, as a mere fan can see the set-up and then it happens. The entire mindset of the offense is completely flawed. A Romo that whose abilities are not maximized, who is losing a bit of accuracy (short passes aside), who is getting the David Carr syndrome because of years of getting brutalized by the piss-poor OL cannot overcome a flawed game-plan. Yet he has a hand in making said decisions!

Romo is a darn good QB, but he is not above criticism and he has been showing, despite the stats, some concerning... concerns that go beyond simple throws and there's even concern there.
There is decision making- both on the field and game-planning.
There is the issue of putting this team on his back and overcoming the odds to drag his "loser-iffic" team to victory. He'll do it a some regular season games- but he hasn't shown it when the pressure is at a 9.5. Again- I'm a level-headed guy. Only Ratliff gets my goose. I'm not "Speaking out of turn", but there has been years of evidence we've all watched with our full attention- several seasons of games and we've all seen the same results from the play on the field.

I watched some Joe Montana-led teams where he absolutely willed his team to the end. Just put the team on his back and dragged them (I DO remember how talented they were, even talented teams falter and that is when Montana took over) to a win. Even if it was a joke in the middle of the huddle to loosen the guys up and then throw a pinpoint pass on a 3rd and long- that builds a synergistic confidence that you could literally see and I have not seen that, but rarely from a Cowboys huddle.
I see no synergy, except for the rare occasion and if the QB is helping make the game-plan- he should be making sure that the offense knows hot to execute it backwards. You say that's the coach's job? You're right. It's the QB's job too! That's what being a leader is all about. That's what puts you ahead in the hyper-ultra-competitive world of the NFL. Someone says- who says he isn't doing that? Maybe he is- but he isn't doing it well enough. Neither him nor the coach or the OC.

Is all of this irrational? Maybe, I am just a fan who has been watching the NFL and Our Cowboys since 1978, but you'd think decades of watching would garner some sort of instinctive insight. Maybe...

Shoot- I'm rambling. Yes, I started hitting the booze and mind-altering substances a little early, but it's Friday! And I have a two racks of pork ribs smoking since Five in the morning yesterday and I plan on eating them at sunset. I live in the mountains and the sunsets are unbelievable here. I'm celebrating life. I have a good girl, a good enough job and loyal dog. All I could want for is for my favorite team to get their tooshies in gear.

Rambling again!

OK- in short: Three dudes are failing to make decent game-plans- our coach, our OC and our QB.
Romo is a good QB that is having several issues and game-planning (hence decision making on the field) shouldn't be one of them.
Which equals:

No sir, I don't like it.

Forgive if I missed or misspelled words. I am not in a normal state of mind...

Still won't come out and say the organization is a mess and Jerry should resign. Thanks a bunch Troy!

Troy is never going to bite the hand that first heed him.

And he's right about the offense. This is supposed to be a high-octane offense. Everyone knows that the defense is made of street people. Yet this same defense, for the most part, has gifted the offense with great field position via turnovers. And the offense has basically squandered what this undermanned defense has given it.

No thanks, I don't want to read diatribes tonight between you and Hostile. That is between you and he.

Well, in fairness to TwoDeep3, you did ask him where you could read his lengthy diatribes. :)

.

I always thought Troy's first loyalty was to Jimmy. Remember, Jerry is the one who foolishly stuck him with Bary. Troy couldn't stand Barry.

Just because he's loyal to Jimmy doesn't mean he can't be loyal to Jerry. I've never heard him criticize Jerry. In fact, I've never heard Deion, Michael Irvin, Darren Woodson, Darryl Johnston or Troy Aikman criticize Jerry Jones, even though Jerry has been the singular figure in the Cowboys demise since all the others left. But they're not going to criticism him because they love Jerry Jones for what he did for them and because he continues to nurture their connection to the Dallas Cowboys. But Jerry Jones is CLEARLY to blame.

Romo could hand it off to the other team, run to the endzone and celebrate with them, and people would still defend his every waking move.

Well, then the Super Bowl era stars are simply not being honest. At least Staubach spoke out.....
