Steve Mariucci on NFL Network

That would be the case for most vet coaches bought into an organization…. Garett grew up in this organization…. no where else to go… ride it until the wheels fall off.

I agree completely....if I'm Garrett, I walk in to Jerry's office with a list of Head coach controlling demands and if Jerry doesn't agree, I'd resign immediately...staying here now at this point is only going to hurt Garrett's ability to get a job somewhere else, whether as a head coach or a coordinator or QB coach

I hear you bro. But, it sounds like maybe Mike Munchak with the Titans took a stand. They've had meeting with him and it was up in there about his return; now its been announced that he has been fired. NFL Network is suggesting that management would've kept him but wanted to make changes to Munchak's staff...and Munchak said....Nope, if I dont get the staff I want..then fire me. If this is the case, I give the man credit for standing up for what he believes in.

^^ Was just watching this.

Props to Munchak.

But everyone knows things are done differently at Valley Ranch. And in all honesty, I feel as if Garrett really did do that to Jerry and was fired, I'm not so sure he'd immediately get another HCing job.

That cat went to 9 pro bowls, got league wide respect… folks knew he would be a coach…
Red is a doll…. He will be here until he gets fired.

Steve Mariucci just says....

"When your front office wants to start telling you, as the head coach, who will be on your staff...it is time for you to move on."

I agree. You?

Well what if it's a group vote and the owner listens?

Before someone doubts me, did I accurately relay this discussion on NFL Network?

I believe Mariucci's point was that there is no group vote and there is no discussion and there is no debate.. If the head coach doesnt get to pick his staff, then he should hit the road.

That's fine but good luck finding another advantageous position where you don't have to work around a middle man GM to get to the owner.

This really should not be a question that has to be asked.

Any time upper management starts dictating to coaches who they have on their staff, it is never a good thing.

It does happen in other biz not just the nfl. Not good when you don't let whomever you hire not do their job.

Not many businesses where a manager gets to fire the entire staff and bring in a new one. But there aren't many businesses where a manager is held so accountable for performance.

Especially where they had no direct say on some of the employees, how much they are paid and how much leeway they are allowed.
