Michael Johnson Cincinnati has spent money on DT and some other players. They've been known to be cheap.
Michael Bennett Will be looking for a starting job somewhere. 8.5 sacks as a backup in 2013. His idiot brother is MartyB.
Corey Wootton Started 15 games for Chicago in 2013. Played for Marinelli in 2012.
Matt Shaughnessy Played 3-4 OLB in 2013 but played in a 4-3 DE in previous years.

Linval Joseph Only 25. A 1-tech that has some pass rush ability.
Arthur Jones He is a 3-4 DE, but looks like a 4-3 DT.
Lamarr Houston He is a 4-3 DE in Oakland but would be a 3-tech on most 4-3 defenses.
Clinton McDonald Listed as a DE but is a DT. He had 5.5 sacks as a backup in 2013.
Tyson Jackson Started 9 of 15 games in 2013 as a 3-4 DE. Might be good as a 3-tech at 6-4, 296.
 
I'll take Joseph and Bennett first. If Carolina lets Hardy walk, we should make an effort in grabbing him over Bennett.

Retreads won't help this squad. It's pretty bleak considering that every other team has a chance to improve when Jerry Kids will only continue to deteriorate under his care.
 
And you are sure we can be players in FA ?
I know you have studied the cap situation and I sure would like some new blood.

Somehow I think that we'll only have enough money for a name like "Gary Gibson" or "Willie Young", and if that's the case and those kinds of guys are all we can get, I'd rather improve through the draft and just bring back some of the guys we brought in this year like Brown, Wynn and Kearse.
 
I think Everson Griffen would be a great signing in terms of value. He most likely resigns with the Vikes, but if he doesn't he should be a guy we look at given our cap situation. He's done some nice things with mostly limited snaps, he could be someone who really improves with Marinelli's coaching. His situation with the Vikes really depends on what happens with Jared Allen.

IMO, I'd rule out the big money guys, Hardy, Melton, Michael Johnson, etc.

If Greg Hardy was available, I would go all in on him; however, as stated previously, he is highly doubtful to be available.

If Henry Melton's knee checks out with the medical staff, I would try to sign him. The Bears have something like 29 free agents so it's possible that he could be available.
