A Thought on Mr. Bruce Carter

uh ok

Because this picture obviously disproves my point...

Yep, if you want the most out of your abilities eat clean. Same thing could of been said for Chad Johnson.

Ray Lewis wouldn't of been the same player if he had that junk everyday
Marshawn eats skittles during games....

This is a good thing. Your liver runs out of carbs in less than an hour often about 15 minutes (old data). Eating sugar would be helpful if you're really pushing things like in a game.

When I did martial arts I trained twice a day most days working for 1 to 2.5 hrs each time generally one hour early and 1-2 hrs later. I ate about 3500+ calories a day. Some people eat more and stay lean.

The point is that you don't have to just eat food that is good for you.

I'm not really sure what to think of Carter yet. He really does seem like a down hill player. From what i've seen he can play very instinctive and fast when he isn't forced to flip his hips and go backwards. Maybe its because he isn't comfortable in the scheme....I don't know yet. The other thing to consider is that we only saw flashes of how good he can be in his second season. What many would consider to be his best game, Atlanta two years ago, where he was playing in front of a lot of friends and family. I only remember this because someone mentioned how many tickets he had to get for them. Maybe the guy just doesn't really love football.

Carter lost me shortly after being drafted by the Cowboys, he stated that he eats McDonald's every day. Not 100% dedicated to his craft.

He lost me before the draft. The rumor was that he was an immensely talented athlete but not a motivated player. I think I've seen a little of both since he's been a Cowboy.

Sigh. Fans are so finicky. A lot like teenage women. Guy has one bad season and he's a d-bag. He has one good season and all the sudden we have the best MLB core in the NFL. Give him another offseason to learn a defense.

Give the guy some credit - he has gone through three? defensive schemes his first three years in the league. I bet he shines next year when there's actual talent in front of him instead of rotational players who are starting due to injuries and actually has two years in the same system.

Maybe so, but the motivation stuff concerns me.

Ernie Sims' passion + Bruce Carter's athleticism = Pro Bowl player

Just like Sen Lee's brain and Ray lewis body would be all pro but Lee can only do what his body will allow which is like 8-12 games a year.

That's what i'm saying- he needs Lee to be in his face.
Every day.
Lee has shown that leadership and it has benefited.

I can't say he should be continuing to do this- it's not his job.
But man- if Lee could... Carter could be a different player because of it.

He takes to Lee's "coaching".
He listens to his teammate.
He respects Lee.

Man- I hope Lee takes it over this off-season and grabs Carter by the scruff of the neck.

CARTER!!!

Bruce Carter is more of a SLB. He's not a Tampa 2 WLB.

You don't go from being fairly dominant as a 3-4 ILB to all of a sudden being a bum.

It is hard to make tackles as a LBer, when the opposing offensive lineman are blocking you after they have blown up the weak sauce Dlineman playing in front of you.

Something I haven't seen discussed that might be worth chewing on is how Lee the off-season before last was really pushing Carter-
Making him recognize plays, calling plays out like a captain, and pushing him to eat, live and breath football like Lee himself.
I can't recall specifically, but was Lee injured through last off-season?
Did he do the same thing with Carter?
I never heard a peep about it, and I know someone would have discussed how much "more of a leader Lee is than Romo" if it happened for the second off-season in a row.

I think this might have had a real effect on Carter this last season and he needs someone pushing him- not just from a physical aspect, but from a mental recognition and passion to play aspect.

I think he needs Lee as his personal live-in coach to maximize his potential.

Another thing, if Lee was not injured through the off-season- why didn't they get together again to learn the new defense?
Or maybe they did and this is all a moot point.

I don't know- this has been playing in my head the last few days.

I'm sorry...I just don't buy that. Call it a sophmore slump if you want to, but to suggest that a professional football player needs someone other than his position coach, head coach, and pay check pushing him at this point in his life seems a bit of a stretch. But that is just me...

Carter is still playing on his rookie contract, so there is no downside keeping him and see if he plays better next year. How he plays next year will go a long way to determine whether he gets a second contract with the team. Right now, the answer is no, but with a strong season next year, that may change.

I can respect that.
I'm only stating my uneducated results of my mental game of Connect the Dots on the subject matter at hand.
Am I stretching?
Maybe. I remember that off-season him and Lee did work. Most of us read the articles.
Then when Lee went down- Carter stepped up admirably. He made the calls, he looked prepared, he played with fire and he looked magnificent.

I heard of no such off-season work the next opportunity and he comes into the season looking ill-prepared and with less fire.
And his body of work for the season shows a lacking he didn't show prior.
Scheme?
Coincidence?
Maybe. I merely posited the thought to you and others and opened up the subject to debate.

I was thoroughly disappointed with Carter this last season. I hold out some hope that he's just slow to pickup on his responsibilities, and lazy and frustrated as a result, but that these things are less of an issue when he knows exactly what to do. But it's slim hope. I'd have him competing with a decent prospect next year for a roster spot, frankly. Not being able to cover wheel routes and being lazy chasing down the ball are not things we should be overlooking, honestly, just because the guy's a whale of an athlete.
