True Detective

Please tell me it gets MUCH MUCH MUCH better after the first two episodes.

I keep hearing how it is so good and so on but I have to be honest. After watching the first two episodes I find that it is very slow paced and boring and I am not seeing Matthew doing anything special that he has not done a hundred times in other roles...playing a slow talking texan trying to be cool.

Now I have been sick the last few days (still am) so maybe that has kept me in the wrong frame of mind but frankly I just don't see what is so great about this very slow show so far with just two episodes into it.

Stick with it. Episodes 3 and 4 will not disappoint you.

It does at least to me and many others it does. It's a very slowwwwww burn but the slowness is worth the wait so far.

They lied about how it went down. Once Woody's character shot the guy in the head, they had to do some major cover ups.

Right, I get the whole part about them lying about it, they made it seem like they were under heavy attack, and then were even commended for it, but what else happened? Cohle was looking at that strange apparatus at the end of the episode with his flashlight. And what did he get so pissy and storm out of the investigation room over? Were the detectives onto the fact that it was a coverup?

No the detectives think he is involved in the killings. I think Cohle believes after interrogating the drug store killer that the murders go far beyond Ledeaux and has been doing his own investigation which is why he wants to see the discovery files so bad

That was one of the wooden sculptures similar to those where they found the original body. It was hard to tell, but it looked like the one he was checking out with his flashlight at the end, might have had a bone in the middle of it. It may have just been a piece of weathered wood, but it seemed curious why he was intent on inspecting that particular one with so many there. It seems there was something different about that particular one that caught his attention.

I remember around season 3 or so of Mad Men reading an article about how this Golden Age of television was assuredly over. How people couldn't top Sopranos, The Wire, Mad Men, etc. It's almost bizarre how good television has become over the past decade. This show belongs in the "best ever" conversation.

Havent looked at what anyone else has put all i wanna say is it starts on saturday here in the uk can't wait!!!

Pump the breaks, it's a few episodes in lol. I'm certainly hooked though, watching the behind the scenes explanations gave me a better appreciation and understanding for it. Basically, the creator said that it was an investigation of the human ways through a detective story. Before I got that, I could understand why a lot of people are turned off by it, on the outside it just seems like a lot of monotone dialogue, but it's so dynamic the way they're fitting three different times periods into one.

I think it'll be something like Breaking Bad, in that it really blows up in popularity in like two or three seasons.

5 of 8 episodes have completed. That's all of this story. Next season is a completely different cast and completely different story. So for all intents and purposes we're over half way through with this product. That's 5 hours of content. If I can judge a 2 hour movie, I can certainly judge the quality of 5 hours of what is essentially a miniseries.

No way in the world would I put this show in the "best ever" category. It is good but far far far away from shows like the Sopranos and Breaking bad.

Show is good but no way is it greatest or best ever level it just is not.

Breaking Bad is extremely overrated. It's in a second class tier compared to Sopranos, The Wire, GOT.

I'm to go with no on this. Breaking Bad is not overrated and I'm so beyond tired of people throwing around the word overrated for everything. The word is overrated because people don't use it properly and it definitely isn't used properly when describing Breaking Bad. All were and are great shows but The Sopranos from seasons 4 to the first part of season 6 really fell off in quality. Breaking Bad never fell off in quality and definitely not as much as the Sopranos. The Sopranos was still a great show but cutting out all that Johnny Cakes crap and throwing away so many episodes in those middle seasons keeps me from saying it's better than the Breaking Bad or the Wire.

I agree with Breaking Bad NOT being overrated, but with that being said depending on how this season ends and where the series goes, it can shape up to be in the discussion of top tier TV shows. It's had me hooked since Ep.1 and I hold it in regards with BB and GoT already.

This is the best show I've ever watched. Episode 5 is a masterpiece.

This week's episode was heavy. I have no idea what Rust has to say to Marty. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first episode that's been majorly concentrated on the 2002 period, yes?

Marty keeps pulling quality tail, LOL. I suspect Rust will fill in Marty on his progress with the case and they'll work together to solve, in the present, over the final two episodes.
