RIver Kwai was more literary, but I did like it. Saving Private Ryan was a masterpiece but the initial killing went on a bit long (I know, it told the story correctly in all its gore)
All I Remember about The Big Red One was Lee Marvin, one of the great.

A good list!

ENEMY AT THE GATES was herb-superb. Like a chess game. Ed Harris has got to be one of the most underrated actors around.

Man it half everything: submarines, danger, sinking ships.

And it is shot from the point of view that these German submariners are regular guys.
And they get many occasions to dis Hitler.
At one point, as they are sinking allied ships I am going: "Yeah!" Then I catch myself and feel guilty. But that is great filmmaking when you actually bond with the characters.

I highly recommend thisl. Das boot mean The Boat, by the way.

You can get the crackle app from Google play store, I imagine you can get it from app store for Apple products or probably go to www.crackle.com o n a laptop/desktop.

I bring it up because right now you can watch Das boot for free.

You won't be sorry. Hey, if you half an afinity for technology, Das Boot shows the dawn of radar/sonar teknology. The British developed it and as soon as sonar started working, the German sub fleet was toast. Soddenly the German subs were the hunted. And the opening credits tell us that 40,000 German submariners went to war at sea and only one quarter of those returned home.
