Heard this trade scenario on talking Cowboys, what ya think

What if Jacksonville offers their 2nd round pick and next years 1st for our 1st round pick.

Do you take the bait? Keep in mind the Jags pick next year would most likely be top 5.

If not, what would it take to completely drop out of the first round?

Wouldn't do it. If we trade down this season we need instant gratification in terms of the trade with the state of our roster.

Personally I wouldn't trade out of the first and wouldn't move to the bottom of the round for anything less than adding an extra second.

We thought we were getting top five choice the last time we did that and it did not work out so well then either. It would take more for me to drop completely out of the round. A lot more.

I also happen to think Jacksonville is turning the corner. Get a QB they have a shot at getting close to .500. They were a team on the rise at the end of last season even with some serious talent deficiencies.

If Donald, Barr and Martin are gone, I think I would. We would still have 2 picks in the top 47, plus 2 1st rounders next year. We are two good drafts away from really competing for a Super Bowl.

I would drop down slightly if I could from 16 and then start taking calls for the QBs if I were in the 20s. If there was a way to get multiple choices in the second and third round of this draft it would help as well. I just do not have a lot of confidence we could extort choices like this. Belichick and his jedi mind tricks can. Jerry Jones, not so much.

Agreed. We thought we would get a top 10 pick when we traded our first to Buffalo in 2004. We wound up getting a 20th 1st round pick the following years for that trade. Our own first round pick was higher. In that draft we also got their 2nd and 5th round in 2004 plus the 2005 first rounder.

Later in 2007 We traded our first round pick to Cleveland for their 2nd round pick thinking the following year we would get a top ten selection out of it. That pick turned out to be the 22nd pick.

So two times we thought we would wind up with a top ten pick because the teams we traded with were terrible. Turns out they did better than expected and in one year did better than us.

The two first round picks we took with those two first round picks we got the following year...Marcus Spears and Felix Jones.


So if we are going to trade out into the second...I would have to get more than their second this year and their first next year.

I would take #39 this year and their #1 next year for #16 as long as no unexpected talent slides to us in our slot.

With the extra 2015 1st rounder, we could even be more aggressive in moving back up from #39 to pounce on a player we really like in the 20's... wind up with the same guy we would've taken at 16... and end up with a little extra in terms of picks either this year or in 2015.

Or just stay put at #39 and take a similar talent to what's available at #16, and have potentially an extremely high pick in 2015. Romo will be 35 heading into the 2015 season. Having two #1's for that draft maybe launch us into position to take a true elite QB prospect that would keep the franchise ahead of the curve for years on end.

I'd rather the 2015 1st. If we have some patience, imagine the potential value in that pick...

I actually think Jax could win about 6 games this season. They're putting together some decent talent, were playing better down the stretch last year, and play in a very weak division. The only thing is they would be likely to be starting a rookie QB in this scenario and Blackmon is still suspended if I'm not mistaken. The outlook isn't great, but I don't think they'd be a lock to draft in the top 5.

Yeah Blackmon is 1 strike from being Odell Thurman'd. They dont have much talent outside of Shorts at WR and Paul Posluszny on D.

I don't think we are in a position to play for next yr.... I'd do it for say 16 for their 2nd and 4th this year plus their 1 next year. I'd have to get something this else this year.

romo has a 3 year shelf life IMO so we need to build now not fir the future only

This is the best overall draft but the strength is in rounds 2-5 IMO. There is even really good talent late in the draft. I wouldn't call this a top heavy draft though. Your shelf life on Romo is debatable. The "Romo core" is all but gone. You need to start building for the Dez core IMO

According to the Jimmy Johnson Value chart, that would not be the case.

The 16th Pick is worth 1,000 points

The 39th pick is worth 510 points.

The lowest value in the first round (pick 32) is worth 550.

The trade would net us very good to great value. Even if the Jags finish middle of the pack it would be worth it.

And if we go by Stephen Jones secret value chart it would be the second coming of the Great Train Robbery.
