I was listening to an old around the league pod cast from a few days ago and one of the guys made argument that Romo's peak has passed. Not as good as he was 5 years ago. Said last 2 years were his worst.

What do you guys think. His yards per attempt were much lower last year than ever before. But he has less interceptions and plays it safer which I like.

Whether he's passed his peak or not, I don't think he's the only reason we'll lose games this season and definitely not the biggest reason. I'm looking toward the defense for that.

past his peak? likely....but if healthy, he is a very productive QB...he just has to stay un-"lee"-like

100% past his peak, no doubt about it.

Yup, you are right about that. He won't be the only reason we lose.

Yes, physically, he is past his peak IMO. He is not the same player he was five years ago or even three. Does this mean that he can't be effective. It does not mean that at all. Elway was well past his peak when he won his championships.

He's way better regarding his knowledge of the game, how to read defenses and move the parts on the field around--opponents included. He's added something to his game every year he's been in the league.

But it's a legit question to ask if we are only talking about the physical side of playing QB.

By mid season, he was already playing in big time pain last year. He was still in one piece vs Denver though, and you could see what he was capable of.
It remains to be seen if he can stay fairly pain free into weeks 15-17. He has not been able to do that for several years now and I think the results have been telling.

Romo may be physically past his peak alright -- the aging process takes its toll on us all but he's wiser now and it means a lot. The last two years in particular, he's been aware of his limitations and doesn't insist on forcing the ball nearly as often as he once did. Once the current OL has gotten fully into sync, he should be allowed enough time to deliver the ball as effectively as he ever will. Despite his advancing years, his overall knowledge and mental sharpness should make up for any physical decline he's experienced in his advancing years.

i think if our defense could keep a friggin lead romo pained his way into the results would be telling and people would get off romo's jock.

There hasn't been any decline in his play up to this point he's still very productive but he doesn't move quite as well as he did earlier in his career. With him being 34 and coming off back surgery his best years are behind him. The 2014 season may be the first season we start noticing some decline in his play due to a poor defense that will again put too much on his plate. His mobility will likely be more limited this season which means he'll have to make more plays within the pocket.

True, but I think that means we'll need to have a better sounding cast than we would've needed 3 or 5 years ago, which isn't good for a team with potentially only 1 or 2 strong points. Other than the offensive line I'm not sure what other position on this team I feel good about.

No doubt.
And now with a possible semi-dominant line, that is doubly true.

I don't understand how anyone could think a 34 year old with two back surgeries has NOT already passed his peak.

I certainly hope it hasn't. But history says his peak has passed.

People's comments on the 'Gun Slinger' Romo - "He needs to stop taking so many risks and stop making costly turnovers, he needs to stop trying to do it all by himself."

People's comments on the Romo of today - "He's done, he's past his peak, he doesn't throw the ball down field anymore like he use to. He needs to step up and take this team to the playoffs, by himself."

People are CARAZY!

The Dallas Cowboys are the only team in the NFL that has fans who would piss and moan about a QB who throws for 31 TDs and 10 INTs. I don't care how he got them, when your TD:INT ratio is 3.1:1, that means you're playing efficient football and giving your team a chance to win most games. Any team in the NFL would take the season Romo just had for their QB play, and that includes GB, NE, DEN, NO, ect;

You know this fan base has been spoiled when you got people complaining about 31 TDs and 10 INTs. "You don't appreciate what you have until it's gone." tsk. tsk.

I think that this was always true. However, I also believe that if you are strong on both sides of the line, you can find a way to make the other parts work. To me, strong Offensive Line Play is the most important part of building a Football team. If you have that, together with a good QB and a sound Front Office and Coaching Staff, you can win a lot of games.
