The 13-year-old allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked her mother, leaving her with cuts on her neck and face, and a puncture wound to her back.

The woman says that during the knife attack, her daughter mentioned playing a role and did not appear to be herself.

Yeah this stuff is really weird. I don't really know much about this whole Slenderman online thing but apparently it's become quite popular and I'd imagine situations like this only make it more popular.

People who spend too much damn time on the Internet and without much interaction I'm guessing. Slender Man, really? Feel bad for the Mom.

The mother stated that her daughter had "mental issues" but wasn't aware that her fantasy with Slenderman went to "that extent." Same as true in blaming perpetrator violence on video games; screw was already loose.

Know nothing about this family or care to read the article, but I'm guessing a tv movie of the week is already in the works.

The scary thing about this is that, I think someone must be portraying Slender Man online and convincing girls to do these attacks. Slender Man was a completely fabricated urban legend, and the creator has admitted to as much.

The fact that the girls are doing things for him suggests that they are being told to do it, imo.

Hollywood cannot have it both ways: they cannot claim they do not influence culture one way and not another.

Just for clarification...Hollywood has nothing to do with slenderman. Slenderman is/was an internet thing. It is not from a hollywood movie.

First time I even heard of slenderman was this guy who does his own makeup/effects and scares people on video chat channels.

Pinkstylist on youtube.

That doesn't have to be the case. It could be all in their head. For example, Son of Sam claimed his neighbors dog was possessed by a demon and was telling him to do his killings.

Agreed.

Though "a demon" is a lot less specific than Slender Man.

It is. Sometimes the "voices in their head" can manifest itself in a broad fashion and sometimes it is very specific. For David Berkowitz the "demon" could be considered as something broad, but the neighbors dog is very specific. The Slender Man is a very specific manifestation for these cases.
