Chandler made a huge difference in 2011, I'll take him over Calderon any day

Not sure if Chandler is the same player he was in 2011. I wish him the best, but in 2013, Hibbert destroyed him in the EC semi finals and this past year, he just wasn't as good as he was in 2011 and 2012.

Rival exec tells me Rockets already have a Jeremy Lin deal lined up and ready to execute if they need the cap room to sign Melo or LBJ.
As I noted yesterday, Rockets plan to keep Lin unless they get a commitment from one of their top FA targets. But Lin deal is ready to go.

-------------
Personally, I see the Rox going 0-2. Houston isn't exactly a destination spot. Great place to make money, but it doesn't have the glam that some of the other cities might offer.

Same problem the mavs have no top tier fa will ever pick them over other offers

I like your tweet but hope you are wrong on your analysis. I doubt James comes to H-Town but would not be surprised at all if Melo comes. It seems to be mainly be between Houston and Chicago and I just don't see him signing with Chicago given Rose's injury history.

They should build with Lin as their point guard. He is a good point guard. The Spurs showed the league what happens if you trot a Mario Chalmers-caliber player out at PG.

Kevin Durant on LeBron and free agency:

“I don’t think it’s fair,” Durant told a small group of local reporters. “I don’t think anything that you guys criticize LeBron [about] is fair. He switched teams; he’s not the first guy to do it. He decided to opt out; he’s not the first guy to do it. Sometimes a lot of people criticize him a little bit too much for doing normal things, doing stuff that everybody has done. [Even] Tim Duncan went into free agency before. He got courted by quite a few teams. We’ll see what happens with me, but everybody’s done the same thing. He’s not the first.”

Rox: They were always going to be a few pieces away as constructed. That team just wasn't very good together by West standards.
Lin is not a good PG. He is not even a mediocre PG. He is a good scoring guard tho and if used like Jet Terry or Ginobli he has very real value.
The Rox could have gotten a far better offer for Asik than a future 1st last year. They held Asik too long. We'll see but it looks like they'll be tipping a team to take Lin and his contract.

Melo: His 3 FA choices make sense. Quality teams/orgs with money. Wouldn't give any team the lead because we have no idea whats in a guys head.
Chicago is the biggest market and has probably the best defense around Melo but also the biggest wildcard with Rose being a ball dominator and also injured.
Houston has he star pairing but really how much of a star is Harden and/or D12 right now? The playoffs were not kind to either guy.
Dallas has an aging Dirk/Chandler frontline with a ball dominating Monta Ellis.
The Dallas contingent will sell that they were able to get SA to 7 games and that they have the best coach amongst the teams.
As to the market stuff, that's probably vastly overrated. Carmelo just opted out to leave the biggest possible market and he didn't have LA on his list even with Kobe there and a ton of money to spend.
After NY/LA Houston, Dallas and Chicago are all in the top markets.
Miami is no where near that market size but has south beach lifestyle advantages.

King James: seems fairly evident his opting out was to get the Heat front office to do his bidding in building the team this off-season as he sees fit.
I believe he wants to retire a Heat but only if the front office and his co-stars will work with him.

Chandler: Part of why he is here is he hated Mike Woodson's defensive system. He won a DPOY after leaving so I doubt he is markedly fallen off but he is an injury risk.
Dallas had to move Calderon or shift him to a 6th man scoring role. He couldn't defend any PG in this league and Ellis as the 2 isn't a good enough defender to take on that extra work load.
Will be interesting to see how the pieces fall.
I am NOT a fan of Melo's game at all.
I'd much rather have Parsons than Melo given the likely price tags.

I would love to see Carmelo Anthony go to the Heat, Chicago, Dallas or Houston. It instantly prevents those teams from contending for a championship.

You mean other than Dirk and offers from whom exactly?
Dallas got the best overall value in FA last year with Ellis.

As a Mavs fan I am hoping it is somewhere other than Dallas.
Too much money tied up for a guy who wont defend.
Houston would be ideal if it means Dallas can then steal Parsons for ~9m per year.
Dallas will chase Aldridge in FA in '15.

Aldridge is a beast. They are trying to lock him up right now.

Not trolling, but legit question - if Lebron/Melo want to win not only now, but in the near future, why would they sign with Dallas? While Dirk's numbers were similar to his all-NBA seasons, he looked like a shell of himself, especially in the playoffs. Unless James/Melo want to hit FA again in two years, what is appealing about Dallas? Not to mention, playing in the gauntlet of the West vs a virtually guaranteed ECF ticket in the East.

Ellis wasn't a top tier FA and there wasn't exactly a bidding war for him he could resign with the Bucks or come to Dallas those where pretty much his options for the kind of money he was askung. Dirk has always been a mav

Portland has tried for a couple seaosns and been rebuffed. Aldridge has even asked to be traded before apparently.
Unlike Bosh, Aldridge would like to come home to Dallas.
Like with DWill the Mavs will be on his short list tho not necessarily the favorites.

JT, do you know what the Max Contract for Aldridge would equate to? I heard it's something like 3 years for 55 mil but I don't know if that's entirely accurate. If so, that's only a little over 18 mil. I don't know if that would be enough?
