The below quote is from JG's presser today. It's what many of us here have been saying for years now. Look like he's finally coming around.

“We really feel in a lot of ways the offensive line is the heartbeat of the football team,” coach Jason Garrett said. “If you look back at some of the great teams in the history of this league and the history of this franchise, there were always great offensive linemen and great offensive line units. When you have those guys, you can be physical. You need to be physical, particularly in our division, particularly at the end of ballgames, particularly at the end of the season, and that can really positively impact the rest of your team. The quarterback will play better, the receivers will play better, obviously the runner will play better and the defense will play better when you’re good on the offensive line. We’ve made a very conscious effort as a franchise and organization to do that, and we feel like we’re starting to see that group really develop and become the strength of this football team.”

Garrett has probably always believed that.

Jerry admitted this offseason that he was overly influenced by the fact that the Super OLinemen were not 1st round picks.

Well, if what he is saying, then why did he not start that process years earlier?

You mean those years ago when he cut almost the entirety of his OL, then had Jerry spend his very first 1st round pick on an OT? Or did you mean back when he had one of the leagues best OL and Tony had literally all day sit in the pocket and pick his nose before throwing?

I think everybody has always believed that the OL is important. That's not the same thing as saying that we need to have spent five first round picks on OLs. In fact, I think--point of emphasis or not--our preference would have been to not have drafted an OL in the first round this year if we could have avoided it.

I'm as happy as anybody that we've got an undeniably solid line right now, but I'd still rather have used the first round picks on defense the last two seasons.

Look like he's finally coming around.

How is he, "finally coming around"? The moment he took over as head coach he started rebuilding the O-line. He spent his very first pick on Tyron Smith after scouting him himself. He then proceeded to use 3 out of 4 of his first rounders on O-linemen. Garrett isn't just coming around, this has been his priority since he first got started.

Except for 2012 where he took a side road down Cornerback Lane.

At first Jerry insisted on big FA names like Davis, etc. Then finally gave in and allowed Garrett to draft players and build them up "It's a process." What's the "Process?" Convincing Jerry, slowly but surely.....

So if the OL was so important, explain the great CB bonanza of 2012?

And we do not "develop" OL. We either buy them in free agency or we pay premium choices in the draft. It just comes down to what makes more sense.

Because we were also desperate for CB help.

We've spent a lot of resources under Garrett addressing the OL. Both high picks and the churning with did with mid and late -round (Nagy, Arkin), college free agents (Leary, Costa, Kowolski and veteran free agents and trades (Mack, Livings, Parnell, Cook). That's on top of the three recent first round picks.

You have to keep the context in mind re: how few resources we've had in terms of draft picks and cap space since that 2010 season when everything fell apart. We needed to retool both the secondary and the OL on the fly and tried to get by developing interior OL talent early on the cheap. And even that was challenging when Nagy, Costa, Kowalski, Livings, and Mack all went down with significant injuries while we were juggling and changing protection schemes.

It's fine to complain about decision the team's made (not that you're doing that here), but you still do have to keep those decisions in a proper context. It's not like we had CBs stacked like cord wood and were out drafting more 'just in case.'

And a lot of that is out of necessity. We got old, and quick on the OL.

I guess we should applaud the organization and assign Garrett credit for common sense now?

What is funny is we still have not seen the fruits of this resource spending.

If he believes in the OL being the lifeblood, make it happen. Run the ball. Manage games around the strength.

Have not seen a damn thing close to that to date.

As far as I'm concerned, they hit three home runs with those first round picks. At the best possible positions too. LT, C and a guy who can play G or RT at a high level.

Curious RS, when and how would you address RT?
