Well, if what he is saying, then why did he not start that process years earlier?
He cut high priced veterans Leonard Davis, Andre Gurode, and Marc Colombo and used the first pick of his NFL career on an Offensive Lineman. Something the team had not done in 30 years since Howard Richards in 1981. He started the process immediately, but he did not finish it immediately. No team can.

if just one or two of the cheap picks (Nagy, Arkin, Brewster, etc) had panned out he would not have had to put a gun to Jerruh's head to go first round on the O line.

It was relevant back when you and your bff said the first few times, after that.... Not so much

That is fine. It will be a topic of conversation when we draft Carr's replacement in a premium round in the next few drafts. See you then.

If you count Doug Free (4th round) and Ron Leary (UDFA), then one or two of the cheap picks did pan out.

Seriously, the last thing any Cowboys fan has the right to complain about this year is the team's dedication to the o-line. It's widely considered the team's strength and you still find something to gripe about.

Evaluating OL is just not something we have done well. Just a simple fact.

So if you struggle to identify OL talent and switch schemes on the OL every two or three years, you get what we have got.

Drafting Smith was shooting at fish in barrel.

Good progress with Frederick and better with Martin. Let's see where it goes.

But it was not an automatic organizational flip flop. It just did not roll out that way no matter how much we might want to pretend it did.

The OL is the big deal now. It frankly is the only real position group on the field that we should feel relatively secure about.

And a lot of that is out of necessity. We got old, and quick on the OL.

I guess we should applaud the organization and assign Garrett credit for common sense now?

What is funny is we still have not seen the fruits of this resource spending.

If he believes in the OL being the lifeblood, make it happen. Run the ball. Manage games around the strength.

Have not seen a damn thing close to that to date.

Applaud? Not necessarily. Though you're welcome to. Keep your criticism in context? Yeah, you probably should be doing that.

And the OL improvement helps us more when it comes to pass protection than it does in the running game. The running game is how we protect leads. It's not how we build them. Not with a porous pass defense of our own.

Lol.

TEs?
WRs?
You don't feel good about our running backs?
I won't put QB on the list now this season, but we've be very solid at QB during Garrett's tenure, generally.

Our problems are on defense. They have been for a long time. We rebuilt the OL on the fly using our most valuable resources. It ought to be solid, given what we've committed to making it solid, but there's no point in belittling the successful work we've done there. At least we've hit on each of those three picks (and, yes, I"m going way out on a limb to say we've hit on Zack Martin, but, well, we've hit on Zack Martin).

Yes- please do wait until then.
You're not blowing anybody's minds with this anymore.
Haven't blown anyone's minds with anything for quite some time anymore, to be honest...

Because we were also desperate for CB help.

We've spent a lot of resources under Garrett addressing the OL. Both high picks and the churning with did with mid and late -round (Nagy, Arkin), college free agents (Leary, Costa, Kowolski and veteran free agents and trades (Mack, Livings, Parnell, Cook). That's on top of the three recent first round picks.

You have to keep the context in mind re: how few resources we've had in terms of draft picks and cap space since that 2010 season when everything fell apart. We needed to retool both the secondary and the OL on the fly and tried to get by developing interior OL talent early on the cheap. And even that was challenging when Nagy, Costa, Kowalski, Livings, and Mack all went down with significant injuries while we were juggling and changing protection schemes.

It's fine to complain about decision the team's made (not that you're doing that here), but you still do have to keep those decisions in a proper context. It's not like we had CBs stacked like cord wood and were out drafting more 'just in case.'

But we've always had those second rounders to use on backup TE's eh?

Past criticisms aside, I'm thrilled at what they're investing in the offensive line as I've been banging that drum for a few years now.

Now I just want to see them USE that investment to its' utmost potential.

I've never liked 2nd round TEs. Or first round RBs, for that matter. We're in agreement there.

Not that I didn't like the players themselves. I just think it's a poor use of valuable resources.

I agree. I think the players have proved their worth. It was our lack of return on investment that aggravated me.

And again, I'd rather be happy about what we have invested in the offensive line rather than complaining about what we still need.

I see some pretty good use of resources (2nd round TE's aside!) lately.

To be fair, he has been head coach 3 full seasons and they almost have a total rebuild of the Oline.

Not the goal, Corso. If mind blowing revelations were the expectation, you are not going to get that at a message board.

I will indulge you and I will not even break a sweat.

TE - Witten, while a warrior, is far too ingrained in what we do. We will bleed that poor player for everything he has. Still best than most, but when he is the focus, it is not a good thing. He needs to be fading into the great one who can still get it done category like Gonzalez had been for the past few years. But he is Romo's binky. Escobar? Well, if we could just figure out this darn two TE thing than maybe he might have some utility. And then there is the fact he is a subpar blocker. Hanna? Too much of an accessory piece. Poor Jason has a hard enough time figuring out how to use the real weapons than to go that far down the depth chart.

WRs - I would concede here, but plain and simple this is Dez Bryant's world. It goes as he goes. If he is having a bad day, Williams, Beasley etc will have a tough time.

RBs - I like what Murray is capable of doing. I have next to no confidence in Dunbar. He still cannot figure out how to score in the open field without tripping over his own feet and fumbling. Is there another RB on this roster that I should feel good about that I am missing? I will add I have hopes than Ryan Williams can be a dark horse.

Yes our problems are on defense. And that is why, yes, I said, the OL is the only position group we have on the field that anyone should feel good about.

Yeah. It sure helps when you hit on the picks.

Claiborne or Crawford or Carter turning it around would sure help me feel better about some of those high defensive selections under Garrett. Wilcox, too, though he's obviously still developing.
