Definitely looking forward to this. Nas IMO is the greatest rapper of all time.

Not even close my ***. Well I did say IMO and yeah it's pretty close. If you want to say someone's better fine but to say it's not even close is ridiculous. He's the best IMO and one of the best in most everyone's opinion. I don't know who u think is and probably don't care but Nas is one of the best of all time. That's not controversial.
Nas is one of the best NY rappers to come out along with Biggie, Wu, Mobb Deep, Jada (personal) but there are many more around the country, and down south especially. NY was a pioneer and will remain a staple along with LA. Personally in DC, we gravitated towards the Memphis scene and GoGo. Didn't mean to speak for Denim, just my upbringing personally.
Nas is one the greatest period. NY rappers? Wow that's a disservice to how great he is.
No I loved Nas growing up personally (first 2). I was just speaking more of personal tastes coming into play considering where you may live in the country, etc.
Biggie doesn't belong in the NY rappers category either. He's one of the best period. The rest you mentioned Mobb, Wu are groups and Jadakiss is ok I guess but not in that category. And it shouldn't matter where you live when talking about the best rappers. That is not a territorial argument.
I only do that because the list starts getting pretty long and personally exclusive when the undergrounds start getting thrown in there. Prodigy is okay but really prefer Havoc in the young tracks (juvie cd/infamous) but he didn't really branch off. Wu started as one but has several group members with everyone having a differing opinion of who was best of the bunch (rza). Who are your top 5 ish overall? But I still feel where you live plays a part. There are different "takes" that are embraced that aren't always expressed simply though lyrics. Sometimes it is "who" is expressing the lyric, my simple man Project Pat (cult idol) comes to mind. His words meant something bc he owned it.
It really doesn't. That list is the best rappers of all time. Not the best rappers of NY or West Coast or wherever. You don't separate any other list like that. Where I live has nothing to do with it. Skill level, longevity, quality classic albums. My top 5, I'll give you my top 10 solo artists:
Nas
Rakim
Scarface
BIG
Pac
KRS-One
Jay-Z
Common
Ice Cube
LL Cool J
So let's see I have Midwest rapper, 2 West Coast(even though Pac isn't from the West), and a Southern rapper. Is that good enough for you. It shouldn't matter and it doesn't to me. If you are good you are good.
I almost put RakimLove you have Scarface on that list. DC idol. Some of the mainstream stuff gets in the way of some but definitely understand where you are coming from in terms of embracing the quality of the music for artistic sake. I don't see rap as an art necessarily, but as a way of expressing frustration.
It was a little hard to leave rappers like Big Daddy Kane, Eminem, Andre 3000 out. I really don't like Jay-Z being in there that much. If there was any one I would remove it would be him. I like him but I've never really loved him or thought he is a great because he came on the heels of Biggie's death. Before that he really hadn't made a name for himself and he comes off boring at times.
I'd be lying if I didn't admit to liking Enimen initially. I will admit I tend to "cross em off the list" when they become established or "mainstream".
Yeah it doesn't help. I like that even Nas has sold a lot of records but he's still not mainstream. Yeah people know him especially hip hop community but the mainstream knows Illmatic and little more.

Didn't mean to offend-just hard to believe anyone would put NAS over Big, Pac, Slick Rick, Easy E, Etc...

Through the lights cameras and action, glamour glitters and gold
I unfold the scroll, plant seeds to stampede the globe
When I'm deceased, by then the beast arise like yeast
to conquer peace leaving savages to roam in the streets
Live on the run, police paying me to give in my gun
Trick my Wisdom, with the system that imprisoned my son
Smoke a gold leaf I hold heat, nonchalantly
I'm grungy, but things I do is real it never haunts me
while, funny style ni****z roll in the pile
Rooster heads profile on a bus to Riker's Isle
Holdin weed inside they p***y with they minds on the
pretty things in life, props is a true thug's wife
It's like a cycle, ni****z come home, some'll go in
Do a bullet, come back, do the same **** again
From the womb to the tomb, presume the unpredictable
Guns salute life, rapidly, that's the ritual
again, in your opion.
