Did you see C.J. Mosley and Timmy Jernigan tonight?

can't say I'm happy with the incremental approach our GM is taking to fix the league's worst defense and a couple more FA defensive players should have been signed,,, but I'm sure as heck not sorry about the Martin pick, they needed that guy.
Martin is a fine football player. but you still don't get it. we have the worst defense i have ever seen in my life. it was a bigger need than O-Line. this defense was one the the worst the NFL has seen in it's history. C.J. Mosley should have been drafted.

I should have been more clear. I meant more top 100 picks. Obviously a 1st rounder isn't equal to a 7th. We haven't done well sacrificing 2nd+ rounders to trade up lately.

How many times have we done it aside from the Claiborne move? I agree though. I'm not a fan of it. I keep it. I hate trading down but if I can get more picks in the top 100 i'm for it but then again it depends on who's doing the drafting.

But I will say I had no problem with the Claiborne move and in hindsight somewhat still don't. We had the worst secondary in the league and they went out and got the best corner in the draft who was projected as at top 5 talent. I can't fault them for that. I can fault them for trading up. Probably shouldn't have. But I have no problem with the player they took.

And WITH CJ Mosley you still have the worst defense in the league and you don't have one of the best offensive lines in the league and your quarterback has a bad back. I just don't get how anyone can't believe Martin was the right pick. I was disappointed to hear the Cowboys actually didn't have that as Plan A.

Nope, Maryland came in the number one slot, and Dallas had already turned the corner.

He was the first overall pick in the 1991 NFL Draft, by the Dallas Cowboys, after the initial No. 1 prospect Raghib Ismail decided to sign with the Toronto Argonauts.[3] After the New England Patriots failed to sign Ismail, the Cowboys attempted to do so by trading for the first overall pick, sending the Patriots Eugene Lockhart, Ron Francis, David Howard, a 1991 first round pick (#11 Pat Harlow) and a 1991 second round pick (#41 Jerome Henderson).

You still don't get it. this game is still about defense. did you not see what Seattle did to P. Manning and that great Denver offense. and the 49ers have been to a Super Bowl and 3 straight NFC championship games because of their defense. we can't keep passing up on great defensive players to help our 34 year old bad back QB. we have to build a defense.the one we have may be the worst in NFL history.

Our first choice should have been J. Football. Then it should have been straight defensive front.

Don't agree, that OL needed to be shored up and that pick did it,,, what ALSO needed to happen was the signing of an impact DL besides Melton.

in the last two seasons the seahawks highest drafted defender has been pick 87.
the cowboys have drafted two defenders higher and a zillion later.

that defense was atrocious tonight and all last year.
but tonight it is probably somewhat fair to look at the 8 defenders they held out for injury or absence....

OK man. there is nothing i can post here to change your mind. so get use to 40 first downs and being maybe the worst defense in NFL history.

its not about changing minds but posting things that are accurate.
the defense absolutely sucks. totally agree.
they need to add more talent to it. absolutely agree.

they didn't try to add talent... absolutely disagree.

last year was terrible but they had 40m worth of defenders on injured reserve.

this year they lose their top defensive draft pick before preseason game 1... good grief.
a guy they used TWO top 100 picks to chase.
so yea man that blows and it hurts.

the first big name returnee they signed this off-season was Sean Lee.
Then he crippled himself BEFORE TC... ughhhghghghghgh.
he was signed BEFORE Tyron and before DEZ. Defensive guy 1st!!!

None of the 6 highest paid Cowboys defenders played tonight.
Sean, Mo, Carr, Church, Scandrick, Melton in no particular order. and that doesn't factor that Ware is amongst that 6 even after being waived.

again i authored the post on day 2 or 3 of the draft about how they could have traded down from 16 and collected a great defensive haul and then not had to trade up for Lawrence.
i don't disagree with you at heart... just in the correlation to what you are saying factually.

the team added Lawrence, Mincey and Melton to the DL this off-season. --they are obviously trying to add Brent.
if all those guys were healthy and in shape that could well be your starting DL.
they drafted a LB in round 4 and extended Lee.

I get that you liked Mosley but the team was scared of his size at MLB.
They told everyone they targeted 3 defenders but when option 4 came they took the highest rated guy rather than lose value in a trade down.
Stephen was mad enough to slam down the phone before the pick.
But when all else fails you stick to the board and take the highest guy and they did.
But they recouped and focused as much on defense as any team EVER has.

I would rather have Zach Martin than CJ Moseley. It's not really close.

The proper bashing of the front office needs a guy we could have gotten with out third rounder so like Ealy and Nix. Martin Jernigan and Nix/Martin would have been a good looking.

I like Lawrence but I agree with the notion that trading away top 100 picks on a roster with very poor defensive talent is poor risk management.

You fix your defense by drafting good defensive players. this team had the worst defense in cowboys history. and one of the worst in NFL history. and Jerry and Stephen Jones did nothing to help it. this is the worst defense i have ever seen in my life.

They tried but the ones that they wanted were off the board. I was all in favor of us getting Donald but the Rams decided to take him. If the Rams didn't get him I'm guessing that the Bears would. The best logical choice we had was to go and get Martin which was still a very solid choice.

C.J. Mosley was sitting right there for them. they knew Sean Lee's history. yet they still past on Mosley. take another look at this. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news...-Of-Year/0e50b3ca-293d-4519-8c19-c5efa22444dd

With the updated view...we would be here without the addition of McClain at MLB.

That's a terrible point. We know this defense has a ways to go. But adding two pieces now means we're closer to getting this thing fixed than waiting till next year and hoping their draft defense. The fact of the matter is this franchise does not value defense.

I wouldn't say that they don't value defense. Go back to the 2012 draft. We mainly picked defense. The problem is Mo hasn't done jack squat and Crawford was injured last year.

First five picks were used on defense and only Wilber has been mostly healthy.

It's more like this franchise hasn't drafedt well on defense since Parcells left. Either the players suck or good but always injured.

It's because defense does not sell tickets. Dallas is all about stats and showing off the offense. Even when we lose it's entertaining. I'd rather have a boring offense and a great defense. It seems to work with the last few SB winners.

Those are curse words to Jerry.

Martin had a pretty good game awell so I'm not losing sleep tonight. Hopefully we draft defense in next years draft. This defense would still be bad with C.J Moesly in it or Terry Jernigan.

The problem is that our offense was good enough to make the playoffs last year but our defense wasn't. Martin was a good pick but he can't rush the passer.

On draft day Jay Glazier was saying that he was hearing Martin would not last the top 5 (or something like that.) That gives an indication of the type of draft grade out there on the guy.

We wanted MLB Ryan Shazier but the Steelers took him. We had his agent on the phone and were about to turn in the card.

We handled the first round correctly. The trade-up to get D. Lawrence showed we really wanted the guy we thought could replace D. Ware.

I was surprised we didn't try to get Jernigan, but maybe they knew more than we do about Brent.

This team's defense was never going to fix in one off-season. They played the hand they were dealt. Drafting Mosely carried risks with his injury history, something the whole fan base is also tired of.

Come back in three years’ time and you can give a proper analysis.
