Did you see C.J. Mosley and Timmy Jernigan tonight?

The problem is that our offense was good enough to make the playoffs last year but our defense wasn't. Martin was a good pick but he can't rush the passer.
Martin is a fine football player. but you still don't get it. we have the worst defense i have ever seen in my life. it was a bigger need than O-Line. this defense was one the the worst the NFL has seen in it's history. C.J. Mosley should have been drafted.

I get what saying (really I do). Look on the bright side, hopefully Martin emerges and approves our running game. An approved running will lessen the time our horrid defense will play on the field. Who knows, maybe that was the plan B all along (after missing Shazier).

We could have had both these guys on defense. Mosley was outstanding tonight. he made plays all over the field. and Jernigan was a man in the middle. 49ers O-Line could not move him tonight.these are 2 defense that we should have taken with our first 2 picks.we are weak up the middle just like we were last year. this defense is pitiful. yet Jerry the GM did nothing to help it this off season. this is my worst nightmare yet again. it's just sad.

Dude, this is hypothetical. We have what we have. Deal with it, we can't rewind the past

That's a terrible point. We know this defense has a ways to go. But adding two pieces now means we're closer to getting this thing fixed than waiting till next year and hoping their draft defense. The fact of the matter is this franchise does not value defense.

This is a terrible point [sic] The draft fell the way it did. Jernigan was not their type player. Mosley was.
Martin is going to be a hell of a player. Posters were screaming a few years ago that the front office didn't value the
offensive line. They fixed that. Next the defense.

I thought Bruce Carter, Dixon, Crawford, Martin all looked good. I could care less about Jernigan or Mosley. We have a lot of work to do. We're going to better this year. This was the first pre-season game.

In the short and long term I would still take Martin over Mosely.....Martin will pay huge dividends on the OL for years.....Mosely is good but has a lot of injury concerns...got beat up pretty bad at Alabama... and you don't know how long he is gonna last in a 16 game season. Plus you got to remember DLAW was not out their to show his stuff last night.....

Martin vs Mosely= Martin
DLAW vs Jerrnigan= ?

Mosley would probably only get injured at Dallas. Watch him have a pro bowl year with the Ravens.

I'd much, much rather have Martin than Mosley. I also think that DLawrence is going to be a better and more valuable player than Jernigan. Jernigan didn't register any stats, so i think you are overstating his impact for your agenda.

There are three more preseason games to go. Maybe Zack Martin will regress over the next few weeks (regress/LOL!) but including his name in negative what if draft discussion is hilarious. I can see DeMarcus Lawrence getting tossed aside for pet cats playing on other teams right now, but watching Martin last night should have muted any ruing about what his addition to the roster did or did not do to improve the defense. If last night was any indication, that young man can flat out play. Regardless of any roster situation, you want p-l-a-y-e-r-s filling it. Sure, improving the defense IS a priority. Who wants Freddy Kreuger slicing it up week-after-week? But disregarding a solid roster piece to make a point is

Shoot. What's the point? I'm headed to work.

Well that did not take long for the first...We should have drafted (insert player here) thread after one preseason game.

Yeah, I love their draft on draft day and love it more now. Jernigan lasting that late was a bit surreal, imo.

Nothing against Martin, of course.
Also, we didn't plan for Sean lee to go down...though maybe we should have.

good grief man, the top 3 targets in round 1 were all defensive guys.
when they did go ol because the guy was a ridiculously good value they traded up for defense.
did they "not value defense" when they gave ratliff, ware huge money? when they traded up to 6 for claiborne? when they signed carr to a fortune? when they gave always injured sean lee a huge deal?

the defense sucks and we cant seem to draft anyone that can stay healthy but the team invests plenty of picks and money there.

it only seems they hate defense when they line up someone like Heath and pretend he can play.

Targets get us no where and cannot be 100% verified. Fact is 4 of the last 5 first rd picks have been offense. When they do decide to draft defense, they end up making the grave error of trading 2 players for 1 player. The Hayden's and Rayford's did not appear out of thin air. This is the result of poor draft trades and poor allocation of resources. The team from the top to the marketing department does not value defense like the blue collar teams in the NFL.

again that's the type of post that makes the board dumber.
just stop with the nonsense.

the last 5 first selections are:
Martin
Frederick
Mo
Tyron
Dez

Mo stands out for a lot more than being defense. Those other 4 picks were all EXCEPTIONAL values.
Mo was the highest pick since we took TNew at 5.
The next highest pick?

If you are going to make inane comments like "The team from the top to the marketing department does not value defense like the blue collar teams in the NFL."
Then show up with data that:
a) Blue collar teams exist
b) They use more resources than Dallas on defense.

Since 2000 Dallas has drafted defense first 8 times and offense 6.
They've used 8 first round picks on defense in that same period.

THE LAST TIME DALLAS USED A TOP 10 PICK ON OFFENSE OTHER THAN TYRON SMITH WAS TROY AIKMAN/STEVE WALSH!!

You still don't get it. this game is still about defense. did you not see what Seattle did to P. Manning and that great Denver offense. and the 49ers have been to a Super Bowl and 3 straight NFC championship games because of their defense. we can't keep passing up on great defensive players to help our 34 year old bad back QB. we have to build a defense.the one we have may be the worst in NFL history.

The game is about the lines. Offensive or defensive. No matter how you spin it, you can't have a bad offensive line but a good defensive line and vice versa. You need solid lines on both sides of the ball. Defensive line and offensive line both needed to be addressed and they were closer to shoring up the offensive line then they were the defensive line.
