Honestly there are 12 guys on this roster I'd cut right now

Two cornerbacks who had a whole day to adjust to the secondary, and not along the defensive line...OK.

In the halftime quotes, one Cowboys defender said everyone was looking good and another said they did a great job. Hey, agree to disagree

I understand wanting to look @ non-starters...but come on. Something is wrong here. This whole trust in Marinelli thing...I'm really having my doubts. Let's not forget he was the head coach of the 0-16 Detroit Lions.

Timeline

1996: Marinelli went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1996 and was the defensive line coach for 6 seasons under head coach Tony Dungy.
2006: On January 18, 2006, Marinelli was named the head coach of the Detroit Lions, replacing Dick Jauron.
2008: He was fired from his position as head coach one day after coaching the Lions to the worst single-season record in NFL history, 0–16 in 2008.
2010: Marinelli was promoted from defensive line coach to defensive coordinator in February 2010.
2013: Marinelli left the Bears in January 2013.
2013: On January 18, 2013, Marinelli joined the Dallas Cowboys as defensive line coach.
2014: Marinelli was promoted to defensive coordinator after the demotion of Monte Kiffin on January 28, 2014.

Something is wrong w/ the scheme. People are constantly running free in our secondary and our dbs are in no position to make a play. They are just there to make a tackle. Move on to the next play. Something has got to change.

Don't get me started w/ the D-line....yes I missed the 1st quarter...but the backups looked horrendous. Not a clue how to get off blocks....DTs getting pushed off the line 4-5 yards. It looked like a lot of the time they were lining up DE's inside. Adewale Ojomo , Caesar Rayford, Dartwon Bush ...I mean what are they really accomplishing here? I sure wouldn't want to see any of those guys getting time as a DT in the regular season.

Jerry got rid of Rob Ryan for this? Oh wait, it was Jason who pushed Marinelli and Kiffin on Jerry. So if you want someone to blame for this garbage it's all on Jason.

I wouldn't even let them get back on the train to Oxnard. I have a hard time believing this is the best the front office can find. Would certainly be turning the roster today

Aladenoye, Josh offenisive tackle was just abysmal last night.....there has to be a vet T out there better than this
Benford, Tim JAG
Bishop, Ken.......Has been a Cowboyzone favorite...Was nothing but a speed bump last night
Hanie, Caleb.....Was a deer in the headlights. Shocking to see from a 6 year vet
Heath, Jeff....a ton of missed tackles...but caused 1 fumble will get him more looks
Johnson, Matt.....Has he been glued back together yet?
Jones, Chris.....JAG w/ no hangtime
Lindsey, Corey...made it just in time to get toasted for 70 yard TD
Malena, Ben.....we are set @ RB. Just wasting a roster spot
Sapp, Dontavis....Might be the skinniest lber in recent memory
Smith, Ryan....Was horrible in the BCS championship...and the trend continued
Webb, B.W..... Another kid I had high hopes for thinking a year in the league would help...still just as clueless

All this talk about how well some of these guys were playing in camp like a Davon Coleman, Terrance Mitchell, Martez Wilson and Anthony Hitchens aren't far behind.

I'm really starting to have my doubts about players like Jeremy Mincey, Terrell McClain and Ben Bass...that we have been sold another lemon by the good old car salesman Jerry.

So disappointed in the 1st preseason loss. 27-7.

And let's not sugar coat this........It should have been 37-7....and maybe even worse if a couple of those interceptions hadn't been dropped that would have been pick 6's

It's one thing to get beat...but this team was once again not ready to play. Poor coaching decisions..(passing the ball on 3rd and 1 and 3rd and 2) Poor tackling. Defense can't get off blocks.

It just blows my mind that this team looked so poor....knowing what it's problems were...yet we looked worse than last season:confused:

I agree with the Cuts, and heck they might be the first ones to get cut, though I really doubt they cut Webb and Bishop already... but hey they could.

On the second half of your post... ITS THE FIRST PRESEASON GAME! NOT ONE of our 'franchise' skill players really played. Orlando Scandrickand, Henry Melton, Barry Church, Brandon Carr, George Selvie, Morris Claiborne all out. Not to mention, Sean Lee and De Law.

oh plus, romo, dez, demarco, witten, etc.

We better lose our minds!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

A lot of those guys won't make the team.

Randy White looked poor for two years so I wouldn't jump off the bridge over a preseason game. They are having to retool the defense. It will take some time to put the puzzle together. If our starting DL had played poorly then I'd be concerned but most of them didn't play or play long.

Bob Lilly changed position as well...

Except for the offensive line during the first few series, this was a preseason game of backups. What is needed is improvement from the backups who will make the final cut before Week 1. The overall health of the defensive starters is the other necessity--especially those making up the front four. Yes, the defense looked awful. Yes, it mirrored last season's unit. However, healthy starters and improved backups would give this defense the opportunity to improve over last season's historically bad unit. At this stage, the main worry should be about finding whatever quality depth along the defensive line that we can find. Worry about players who will not be on the roster is not very practical.

I think the OP is way off on Bishop.
Williams is ok too for now.
Heath will stick until near the end, but could be a late cut.
Matt Johnson can't even get on the field....ugh. I mean yesterday he could have all the reps he could handle. Huge missed opportunity. Adios?

you know it is getting bad when we analyze the first preseason game this closely. Come on seriously, it is 1st preseason game in which barely anyone on the field represents what we put on the field in the regular season.

totally meaningless game

What's bad is we are the people who are suppose to be football-ologist.

I was watching Bishop a lot last night...(had the DVR smoking by hitting the rewind button) and was pretty disappointed considering all the hype you had heard about him and Davon Coleman.

I won't be shocked to see us make some cuts and bring in a few vet DTs before the Ravens game.

Dallas basically started out with back ups versus starters and it looked exactly like that.

All that said of those 12 guys I probably do cut 8 or 9 of them.
Not based on this game but on overall performance.

Aladenoye, Josh he will be cut. simply not higher than the 5th OT and probably more like 7th.
Benford, Tim Not even a JAG. He is a wasted roster spot at this point.
Hanie, Caleb Simply not as good a prospect as Vaughn. Cheeseball arm and looked easily flustered.
Heath, Jeff....a ton of missed tackles again. still doesnt understand angles and at safety you don;t play if you don't know angles ... except here apparently.
Johnson, Matt Who?? this is a unicorn.
Jones, Chris this team needs plus ST play considering the porpus defense so i am finding a stud punter.
Lindsey, Corey this guy couldn't start for a mediocre college team.
Sapp, Dontavis i'd cut him for being so bad the other guys played before him.
Smith, Ryan see above. will be better safeties ont he waiver wire.

Disagree on Webb especially. He looks to me to be limited to nickel CB duties and slot coverage play right now. Playing him outside exposed that is really small and has no idea whats going on out there. But I wouldn't cut him for that provided he can sit inside and play slot coverage. That has value.

Cowboys looked bad last night and I agree that it was just a pre-season game and I agree that we were missing a lot of key guys but the problem with this team over the last several seasons has been depth. I didn't see anything that made me believe we are closer to solving that problem last night.

On a positive note, Vaughn looks like a guy that might be able to turn into something. Way early to tell but he's a guy that is going to have a job somewhere, if not here, I think.

Did you see San Francisco last night? Good gosh, they got drilled.
