Watch Bass blossom into a formidable DL. It's amazing what being around a real football environment will to for a players attitude to improve and compete at a pro level.

How will he do that if he can't stay healthy?

Yep someone please add more because those were weak sauce comments for all of the self serving back slaps going on. Please tell me there are better comments out there to guffaw over... Anyone.?!?!

Nobody ever thought he was going to be more than a role player who might develop with reps into a starter for us, as far as I can remember. But you're right, the hoi polloi were not exactly rejoicing in either of those threads. Interestingly enough, Risen's comment in the second might have been the most optimistic in that thread.

In any event, this is hilarious that he got traded for another player. That's better than him getting cut outright, though. And I'm always interested when the pro scouts think enough of a player to bring him in. Or, rather, I am now that we've seen a little bit of success from our pro-scouting department.

We still don't have more than 6, and probably only 5 CB spots available. So, this guy would take a spot from Patmon or Mitchell or Webb, best case scenario.

Asking a question that you have no answer and then pretending like the answer is obvious for does not make an argument. I have no examples of my own but neither do you so we still don't know.

So Brent will just pick up right where he left off?

So who was busy pimping Big Ben Bass last year? Why was he traded? For the 271 ranked CB out of 280

Jason Hatcher was pimping him last year.

And a lot of things are being taken out of context. Would you rather have Ben Bass who was going to make the team with D-Ware, Spencer, Ratliff and Hatcher all set to be on the team....or would you want some guy off the street that only made the team because he was a warm body?

But no...we would rather promote revisionist history and make up claims that Ben Bass was going to be an All-Pro, which nobody ever said.

Makes sense, actually. Dallas has a plethora of SDE types that can move inside on passing downs. Ben Bass was simply overkill at the one type of DL that we had more than enough of.

If New England was running short of those like we were at CB, then this is a logical move for both franchises. New England probably liked the guy at corner, but with their acquisition of Revis he was overkill just like Bass was overkill for us.

+1 for using the term "Hoi Polloi".

Brent isn't helping any time soon. Who's the last guy (especially his size) who missed significant time from all activities and was in good enough shape to even practice?

Saying he wasn't going to make the roster this early is foolish regardless of which player they are high on. You'd think a team with this many injuries would pause before basically cutting a guy after preseason week 1.

Sure. But we might just be looking at 10 snaps a game to start

And now everyone that was just this morning making fun of Ben Bass will tell everyone that Dallas screwed up by letting him go.

And around and around we go...

No but are you trying the Socratic method or something? I have no idea what type of shape he is in. How would I? Only thing I have heard is that his weight is in good shape and is currently training out at Ben Johnsons training academy.

First counter to your example would be that guard that we brought in last year and Holland before that. Both demonstrated that it is possible to maintain something close to training shape outside of football.

I think to answer this question the best questions to ask are what if any training facilities he has had access to while incarcerated and if he had them if he used them. What kind of eating habits has he had?

No, since there is no adequate search feature on this site for reasons unknown, I won't waste the time finding the morsels.

Yeah sure. Truth is that you are full of it.

A few thought he might amount to something and you and a few others had to poo poo on that idea and still are doing it.

Lord forbid a few Cowboys fans on a Cowboys message board show a little hope that a nobody player might do something for the team without you and some others ripping on them and making a bunch of lame snarky jokes about it over and over.

Nobody in those threads thought he was going to be great player and only one person mentioned probowl and that was in jest. But in your world people were making him into some fake cult hero status.

Makes perfect sense to me, showing...

1- no confidence in Webb, not even as a backup...likely on the way out.

2- good move for Bass who is probably better suited in the 3-4 and may have struggled to make team.

3- we don't have to depend on the rookie Mitchell and his grabby hands as our #4 CB for 4 games.

Whether Green makes the team, provides depth, or gets cut, we added a well-coached player with a year of experience at a position of need for camp. We were one CB injury away from mailing in the first 4 games.

A play or two along the DL from a rotational player in a game or five last season might have made an impact. Heck, even just keeping Hatcher fresher for the end of the year might have made a difference. Ben Bass is the kind of player it's fun to root for, because he came out of nowhere and played well in camp. He gives you upside, with no downside. At what's a position of need for us.

As far as I'm concerned, mocking players like that or exaggerating expectations for such players and then mocking those exaggerations is sophomoric.

But, hey. He's NE's property now. Time to start making fun of the guy we got in return. Is he short? I bet he's short.

People are not very logical and are often lazy in their thinking. The Pats traded for Bass. The Pats arguably have the best organization in football over the past decade. Unfortunately you are dealing with the binary mindset. A player is either great or is awful and nothing else.

Ben bass is a DT not a DE . But this team is so dysfunctional they don't even know where to line guys up . Crawford is not a DE either but with this team he is SMH . This DL will be much worse than last year . We've got a decent player in Selvie and a bunch of washed up poop , and untalented scrap . I mean Coleman seriously ? He looked completely lost vs SD .

Is it really so hard to believe a guy who was incarcerated may not be in the best shape? I don't think it is, but you can believe whatever you want.

Neither Brian Waters or Holland were on house arrest, followed by a stint of incarceration.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter to me either way if he can possibly be in shape or cannot possibly be in shape. I just don't care to waste that much time thinking about the guy.

I'm willing to assume he's not gonna be ready. I'm not asking you or anyone else to endorse my idea, just stating what I feel to be a reasonable assumption. If that's not good enough for you then I don't know what to tell you.
