If Romo had been traded to New Orleans when they tried to get him he would have a ring.

Perhaps.

I do think he has been stunted significantly by what he has experienced since his breakout season.

That was the best coaching staff and situation he has had in his career. Less owner intervention, a real head coach instead of trainee and a QB coach that actually earned his paycheck.

People want to whine about the lack of a supporting cast, well, those limitations have been far more damaging to his success.

Aaron Rodgers had the worst defense in the league and still won a Super Bowl... Just saying.

Aaron Rodgers is way better than Romo. I think Romo is the 5th best QB in the league, but there's more distance between Rodgers and Romo than Romo and Gabbert.

did you just compare romo to gabbert?

rodgers is not way better anyhow...he's stunk it up the last few years himself.

I think back to Mike Myers and Wayne's World when he picks up the Strat and plays one note and the clerk jumps in an points to the sign - No Stairway to Heaven.

Too bad there isn't a clerk working the new thread aisle here and reminding - No Tony Romo and Numbers Threads.

Same people, same arguments, same posts, same results...

Rinse and repeat.

To you all you haters of Romo. Cowboys will rue the day when Romo is no longer a Cowboy and retires. You will all wish you would have had the playmaker who can extend plays and avoid the sacks - and able to complete big plays during crucial situations. Romo isn't perfect. But he is truly an elite QB who has the propensity to win. Remember his first preseason game? When the clock was ticking he snuck it in for the score despite Parcells telling him otherwise. Romo is a winner. He is the best thing that came to is organization in the last decade.

Wait till we have to replace him with a drop back passer with no pocket presence and mobility whatsoever. We will regret why we didn't put more resources into our defense. We will regret having to hire Garrett who doesn't know squat about coaching. We will regret not building a oline earlier in his career.

Because if we actually give a darn about winning the Super Bowl we would have have done the correct thing and built a complete team around Romo. But of course we have Jerry to thank and squandered opportunity after opportunity. Its truly is a shame why were an elite team with Romo.

Is there a way this post can be copied and applied as the first response to all threads posted about Romo and stats, and Romo and where he is in the top tier, and any other Romo thread that tries to quantify his play, and then seal that thread like it has Ebola inside and we need to protect the health of those who post here?

I've been saying it for almost 8 years, Tony Romo is an elite quarterback who plays at the highest level, and a SB ring would safely secure him as the greatest or second greatest Dallas quarterback that has ever lived. Of course this is not a popular opinion among Cowboys fans, or NFL fans for that matter.

Surely fans will debate Aikman as a better QB, but having been a witness of both players, Romo is just a better quarterback, period. Aikman was blessed to have a great team in a non-salary cap era, which meant an easier path to the big games. Not to take anything from his greatness, I like Romo better. Ultimately ESPN is right; numbers don't lie.

I'm not sure how to would mine the stats needed to show often poor play by Romo

..with turnovers such as fumbles and ints.

In games that contributed heavily in the lost games..

where it wasn't going to be a close games decided in the late 4th qt..

games where the game was esutually lost with no realistic hope of winning..

It's fine if you want to just take a certain look at Romo.

Games where poor play from Romo directly contributed in the loss.

That Packers team had Nick Collins, Charles Woodson, Sam Shields, Tramon Williams, etc. One of the best play making secondaries in the NFL that season.

In the Superbowl they forced numerous turnovers and even had a pick 6 I think.

Dallas had nothing remotely close to that.

Actually it looks like the Packers had the 2nd best scoring defense in 2010.

I'm on the phone so scrolling around like a madman but looks like that defense was about 200 points better than Dallas was last year.

These type replies will keep the thread from an early grave. Others not so much...

2010 Packers:
  • The team's 240 points surrendered is the second best in team history
  • Total Defense (YPG): 9th
  • Passing (YPG): 5th
  • Rushing (YPG): 18th
  • Points (PPG): 2nd
That defense was pretty much on fire in the playoffs.

Two words that shouldn't be used in the same sentence with Romo, Elite and clutch, he's neither..
