A Few Defensive Thoughts After Watching The All-22

Common sense tells you he's not as good as lee. Period. Look at how much each guy gets paid. Sometimes you don't have to sit down and watch 10 hours of gamefilm on each guy to make an educated guess.

That's not a good method to evaluate players. It's like saying that Ray Rice is not a good player because the Ravens cut him or that Josh Gordon is not a good player because of all of his issues.

Wasn't for his play on the field, look again.

He's not reliable. He hasn't proven it to me on one game. Once things gets tough, I'm not sure if Ro will be there for the team or not. Hell he may retire again. Lee would run through a brick wall to be on the field and when things get tough lee is the leader, captain and voice of reason out there on D. It's not fair to lee for fans to put Ro above him. And I like Ro.

No, Sean Lee is not involved in current observations, period. As to merit, Ronlando McClain is...and you just can't create a comparison through an internet brow beat.

just stop.
because that's VERY unlikely.
Lee costs about 5m a year to watch the game while McClain was arguably our best defender week 1 while making 700k.

this entire argument is pointless.
right now Dallas needs McClain badly because they don't have Lee.

Can't stop, won't stop.
The argument is about who the better player is between ro and lee. Healthy or not. Any GM would tell you Lee is the superior player at this point. Now if Ro plays 15 more games like he did last Sunday, then I'll be open for this kind of debate.

Thanks for the warning to lack of objectivity from the start...

Any coach would tell you McClain because he is on the field. Lee isn't available to this team at all. He is a cap drain and not even on the roster.
Any GM would love ot have a healthy Lee perhaps but not a single GM in football would trade us a 7th round pick for Sean Lee right now if they had to eat his guaranteed money to do so.
If we cut McClain he'd get a job immediately.

Ray rice and josh Gordon put up huge numbers bro. Why did Oakland and Baltimore let him go? Why did he retire twice? If he is as good as lee, why didnt he ever get a big second contract somewhere? Ya know, since his gamefilm was so good in Oakland.

They were both drafted in 2010.

Games Started:
McClain 39
Lee 32

At this point the probability of Lee staying healthy is about the same as the probability of McClain staying motivated to play football.

Why did Baltimore cut Ray Rice? Was it because he was not a good player?

No no. That was a reply to @jterrel's comment. He said "just stop". "Can't stop, won't stop" is a song. That's what happens when you take things out of context, when I wasn't replying to you.

No, there appears to be a lack of depth towards picking up levels of humor above.

By the way, on the Jerry routine, have you ever lost a young dog on a hunt for cougar?

I'm not talking health issues. Ro has motivation issues. Put those issues aside and I still think the pro bowler is the better player overall. I hope for the cowboys Ro fills that whole for years to come and lee can slide to will. But I'm not willing to forget all the good things lee has done while healthy and say Ro is better after one game.

My guess.. Ask any GM in the league who they'd rather have, assuming both are healthy; 32 of 32 GMs would take lee at this point. Ro has to prove it over the course of a full season. There is a reason he's bounced around the league and retires twice.

So you telling me your asked 32 GMs and they said they would rather have Lee? Seems like your hoping that Ro McClain fails because you keep bringing up his past.

We all know he has a shaky past. But right now, I'll take a healthy McClain playing D while Lee sits out the entire year. I'm assuming that 32 out of 32 GMs would do the same.

That's a good point.

In the 32 games started by lee. I bet he has more tackles, ints, sacks, whatever; then ro has in 39 games.

Moving the goalposts. If you read my posts I said I hope Ro fils that spot for years to come so lee can move to will. But ppl saying ro is the superior player at THIS POINT are incorrect. I'm talking about head to head who is the best player. Throw out injury issues and motivation issues. I take the pro bowler every time and twice on Sunday.

you don't have to guess...

they are basically even in tackles. Lee has a handful more.
Lee has far more interceptions but far less sacks.
Passes defensed are virtually even. 18 to 17 for Lee.

McClain played at a pro bowl level in 2011.

There is no definitive answer in looking at the stats. McClain has sacks and Lee has INTs:

Tackles per Game Played
McClain = 6.1
Lee = 6.3

Sacks
McClain 6.5
Lee 0

Passes Defensed
McClain 20
Lee 18

INTs
McClain 1
Lee 11

Safety (Similar to a sack)
McClain 1
Lee 0

Right on. I, personally, will wait a full season before I even consider Ro in Lee's category. Saying Ro is better at this point is a slap to the face of lee. When healthy guy is a stud and works hard and is team captain type dude. If Ro shows some of these intangibles to go along with what he's blessed with physically; I'll be open to debate on the subject. And I hope that happens.

P.s.
If he really played at a pro bowl level why didnt he make the pro bowl? Better yet, why is he playing for 700k if he was so good. Why was he available for a 7th if he was so good?
