News: Jerry Hopeful That McClain, Spencer Can Play Week 4

Tex Schramm talked a lot he had his own TV shows heck he is the one that carried on the America's team tag despite the fact Landry did not care for it. No one cared that he talked and was constantly in the lime light. I get it a lot of people do not like jerry but when people act as if this is something unheard of then it makes me think they know nothing of this franchise.

Please -- Tex's misgivings were far more forgiving in the light of what he did for the Cowboys' franchise and the quality of service he provided as GM. Unfortunately, Jerry's bungled handling of his self-appointed GM duties made his micromanaging was far less tolerable. To top it off, he's aware of being a flop as GM and stubbornly continues to linger in that role. Jerry hardly deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Tex Schramm.

Tex was a PR guy Gil Brandt did the personal moves along with Landry. Again I understand people do not like jerry but when every time he says anything you guys get your panties in a wad even something as simple as saying he hope this player can get back out there then it looks ridicules. It is moaning to moan, jerry did not say 1 damn thing that fans are not saying themselves. But Jerry said it so let’s get upset and slam him. Come on, once of common sense goes a long ways

Tex wasn't a "PR guy," his official title was General Manager. He was very active in personnel procurement. Brandt was the chief scout. Landry was involved, yes, but not more than any other HC. Jerry has earned his reputation through years of micromanagement, faulty decisionmaking and a multitude of careless and frequent verbal absurdities. Sorry if it upsets you or anyone else if it draws undue criticism at times but at some point, his compulsion to stay constantly in the limelight becomes much more than just a little tiresome. No doubt, you've noticed there's a long line of folks who feel likewise. You should get used to it -- it's not likely to go away.

Yes his title was GM his back ground was PR. Gil Job was to find talent and sign them at cheap prices and he did that. Gil would get on the phone with Tex run the deal by him and Tex would approve or not. But claiming Tex as some top personnel guy no he was not. As for the limelight yes Jerry likes the limelight Tex liked the limelight and both men do everything they can or could to promote this team. Jerry is not trying to coach the team and he relies on personnel people to give him the information to make the call. Both Jimmy and BP have said Jerry will listen and take advice on players the key is hiring the people to give him the information. When it came to Ware and Spears it was Ireland who said take Ware and Jerry did. In the end it is on Jerry after all if he hires bad people then he gets bad info but it was his hire that gave it to him. As for going off on Jerry no issue until it gets to the point of anytime he says anything some get bat **** crazy when often the comments are harmless.

Walt Garrison is an example of Gil bringing him in and getting him signed. Walt states he told Gil I want a double horse trailer as his signing bonus so he calls Tex and Tex ask how much do those cost Gil told him and Tex said sign him. Walt also got a pair of white shoe that Gil was wearing.

Let's face it -- Tex was infinitely more qualified as a GM than Jerry ever will be. We could argue ad infinitum over who did what and what his responsibilities were and it wouldn't mean Jack. I believe Tex Schramm had infinitely more knowledge about personnel than our current GM and was active in their procurement. He sought out prospects at times as well. Anyhow, that was then, this is now. Let's not belabor that which is no longer.

I surely don't believe I got "bat **** crazy," as you have referred to some who do. Seems as though you're becoming somewhat overly excited yourself with all your demeaning terminology. If you can't avoid getting overly bat **** insulting, this conversation is doomed to fruitlessness. Is that really how you want it?

I've already apologized for offending your sensitivities and anyone else's about what you've deemed as my over the top criticism. If that's not sufficient, then there's evidently nowhere left to go with this exchange.

Tex hired good people, like any CEO your business is only as good as the people you hire. AS for the BSC statement, then why get bent out of shape over minor things? Jerry makes a simple comment and like always the same people start hollering as if he is over riding the HC he is not and many others GM and Owners in the NFL also make comments about their teams and players.

I do believe we both got overly excited for a while there. Cooler heads should prevail in any communication, otherwise it becomes an exercise in futility. Do you REALLY want to continue to assert your case endlessly or are you willing to let bygones be bygones and put this aside? Let's just say we've got our own views and leave it at that, OK? We can either be friends or carry this on endlessly. What'll it be?

If anything Spencers addition would be huge to the depth and would be able to lessen Mincey and Selvie snaps. Selvie in particular could be much more effective in limited snaps. He started really strong last year and hit the wall hard. I think he just played too many snaps. Both him and Mincey could be more effecteive in a more limited role
