The idea of being run centered was actually Garrett's

With the OL that this team had, we couldn't run the ball that effectively. Perhaps that is the reason for an average of 57 pass attempts per game.

Why do people keep saying this? Demarco averaged 5.2 yards per carry last year and the coaching staff still refused to run the ball. Zach Martin is good but he's not some god who has completely opened the running game up. Demarco's inability to stay on the field would be a better excuse, but it's really hard not to blame the coaching staff. I give Linehan a lot of credit.

The 2012 line is a different story, but last year we could have been doing nearly the same thing as this year. We just didn't have a good enough play caller

The whole notion that Linehan's success means Garrett shouldn't get credit was hogwash anyways.

How much credit should we strip from Jimmy Johnson due to Norv Turner's impact?

Jimmy never lost any credit, never. But Norv got a lot of credit for his part. You cant deny either one the credit due. Would Jimmy have gotten his credit w/o Norv doing what he did?

correct me if Im wrong but didnt Garrett say that he wanted to run but didnt have the personnel? that he was trying to win so at times he was pushing Tony to more or less carry the team to wins?
I dont remember where I saw or read this but I will try to remember

Garrett has always said he wanted a strong, physical running attack. I just don't think he had enough trust in the OL, the RB's, or the running game as a whole to stay committed before this year.

That's what I thought too.

He just continued to shoot himself in the foot by stopping it for no apparent reason.

Head scratcher for sure..............

Not that I disagree with either winning poster.
But my impression was they always went pass happy too early in the game and never tried to establish winning the LOS.

This is exactly right. I'm not sure what anyone is trying to prove with this thread?

yeah that Green Bay game was as damning as you will see. Murray was killing them the first half.

seems Garrett wants to run, he knows he needs to run, but he is a slave to his love of the pass lol

I don't see it hard being to accept that given how much the team has ran the ball this year. And they have run it against 8 and even 9 men in the box, when they've been down and against blitzes. That's when those coaches that claim they are 'committed to the run' tend to bail out on the run. But, we haven't this year.

The difference is last year we had a pretty darn good running game and we refused to run the ball. So, I could see why people (including myself) were at a 'I'll believe we are committed to the run game when I see it.'

Well...I've seen it and now I'm a believer.

Well said. I agree on all counts.

I believe 52% of Murrays runs last year went for 3 yards or less. This year it's 47%.

If I got the right numbers the team is also averaging 5.42 yards on 1st down runs compared to 4.65 last year.

Technically he was killing it in the 1st quarter. After than just below his season average.

yeah my bad.
whoa how did I get in the rant zone? lol

Just to clarify his 5.18 (I think) for the 2nd-4th quarter was still pretty good.... but that 11 y/a in the first quarter was just ridonculous.
