Cowboys hold 'tense' meeting

Concerned about team chemistry after a loud verbal disagreement between Dez Bryant and Joseph Randle carried over onto the practice field Friday, Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett met individually with those two players and an equally incensed Josh Brent later that day and then discussed the subject with the entire team on Saturday, according to league sources.

The meeting was described as tense, and Garrett seriously considered whether Randle's continued presence on the team might be an impediment to harmony in the locker room.

When asked if Randle would play on Sunday against the Cardinals and remain part of the team, one source answered, "Randle is staying for now."

Randle is the backup to NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray and his role has increased in recent weeks as the Cowboys attempt to avoid overworking Murray.

Bryant and Brent were furious about Randle mentioning their legal problems to Frisco police as he was being booked into jail for shoplifting charges. The tape has since become public, revealing to the players what Randle said about them while he expressed to the police concerns the Cowboys might suspend him.

While he may avoid further punishment from the team, Randle apparently has been ostracized by some teammates. The Cowboys fined Randle the equivalent of a game check for the shoplifting arrest.

The Cowboys have Lance Dunbar and veteran Ryan Williams on the roster at running back...

My only comment on the matter:
Whether his words were factually correct or not- it simply was not a good thing to do in any setting.

Whatever happens to him- Good Luck going forward young man, your fate no longer lies in your own hands and believe me, that's a crappy position to be in.

Dude better grow up quick.

I do like how the team isn't turning a blind eye to his antics. One more foul up and I expect he'll be cut. This team seems to have good chemistry and a good dynamic, especially after this 6-2 start. Glad they're not going to tolerate someone who might jeopardize that.

They seriously need to consider cutting him, which I'm sure they're doing. Randle is not a valuable commodity, at least, not valuable enough to warrant the trouble. They could easily find another running back on the market if Murray went down, and they can easily draft a rb in a later round next draft. I just don't think he's worth the trouble that he could create, but of course this is all just from the outside looking in.

Garrett probably pulled a couple vets aside and got their input. Guess it wasnt positive.

His talent isn't worth the headache. You don't let someone as replaceable as him disrupt a locker room. There are absolutely double-standards for players, and he needs to realize he's not in the category that gets a lot of chances.

That fantasy trade for Ingram might actually happen after. I also don't see Randle staying with the team much longer. What the Cowboys FO is doing is looking for alternative backups for Murray before they let Randle go.

randle is quickly pushing his own self out the door. and thats a shame, the kid is a solid runner and good special teams player. but chemistry is more imprtant than he is. it will be interesting to see what happens next week. he better have one heck of a game or he could be working at dillards

i would give williams a shot before i traded away a pick. neither play special teams and i don't know about ingrams blocking. thats the only issue with williams and he is a fool if he has'nt been working on that every single day

If Percy Harvin can be let go from Seattle, much the same can easily be done with Randle. No one player is more important than the team as a whole. Even an idiot should be able to figure that out. Randle undoubtedly lacks the level of talent to be anywhere near immune not to pay for what he's doing. For his sake and that of the team, I only hope he finds the wherewithal to read the warning signs before it's too late. His clock is ticking.
