Just for that time period. His reign was going to quickly come to an end after free agency started. The fear he evoked wouldn't last once free agency came to be. ...which is why he was a complete and total failure in Miami. The players didn't fear him because they could up and go to another team where they didn't have a tyrant as a head coach.

Here's the 1st thing. You can say that now. You or anyone else wasnt thinking it back then. We wanted 3-peat.
Here's the 2nd thing. You are postng your opinion in hindsight.

I will post a fact!

FACT! We never had the opportunity to find out if 3-peat was possible. Winning SBXXX makes it so that we never had the opportunity to see if 4 in a row could have happened.

Ha... That was 2 facts... Lol

Unfortunately he should have had twice as many victories and 2-3 more SBs to boot. It's too bad that both JJs couldn't learn to play in the same sandbox. If they did, both would probably be in the HOF by now.

I credit jimmy with the three. I don't care. Could have been 4.

Jimmy was no failure in Miami. Certainly not like the job Landry did at the end of his tenure. Turning the Cowboys into the worst team in football before he got fired.

Still, all in all, I'll take the guy responsible for more titles. That's all I care about.
. Jimmy was stuck with old man Dan - I will through all the time because I don't believe in running - Marino. There was a pic of them on cover of magazine choking each other. Lol... I bet it was about ball control and letting defense help win games instead of throwing ints.

You have to be retired for 5 years first in order to go into the HOF don't you? If JJ and JJ had gotten along, then Jerry probably still would be Cowboys owner today, just like he is.

I didn't think the 5 years retired applied to owners. I can see JJ getting in as an owner, as a GM, he will need to have won multiple SBs with multiple coaches in multiple eras to overcome his current perception as a GM.

I'll take Jimmy's tenure over all of them. He brought more titles to Dallas than anyone and didn't need 3 decades to do it.

What an unnecessary slap at Landry. Jimmy Johnson was a fine coach. So was Landry. Why do you have to denigrate the outstanding Landry did of building the franchise? If there is no Landry in Dallas, then there probably is no Johnson in Dallas as the fortunes of the franchise would have changed dramatically.

Pretty crazy that Jerry hired 7 head coaches in 23 years.

The previous 28 years before that, there was only Landry.

I wonder how that compares to the rest of the league over that same time frame. It seems very few teams keep coaches very long. I hope Dallas reaches a point of some relative stability. No coach will get 29 years with a team like Landry, but I am hoping Dallas doesn't switch them out every 3 or 4 years.

You're right.

Landry had 20 straight winning seasons.

To try and even compare Jimmy's five minute tenure and 2 Superbowl appearances to Landry's 5 Championship appearances and numerous other NFC Championship game appearances is one of the dumbest comparisons a person has ever attempted to make.

Landry got old, the Cowboys got old, and he was bad at the end.

I still don't recall any Landry teams being beaten down 60 something to 7 in a playoff game.

1000 likes for this post sir!!!!

Count me as unimpressed with Garrett so far. Success in the playoffs may win me over. Considering he cost us the playoffs three years running, I expect at least a win or two in the playoffs before I give him any credit.

Interesting. He'll never reach Landry since that's just never going to happen again in the modern NFL, but he'll be firmly in the #2 slot when he finishes up here.

in wins perhaps, but not winning percentage re Wade did his in 56, Redball is 66. Jimmy's overall percentage will always be lower than expected due to 1-15 but I dare anyone to claim Redball is a better HC than Jimmy

Jimmy was 2-0 in the big game, Landry 2-3 and he couldn't beat the Steelers

Remember it was not the CAP era, it was pre cap , Jerry bankrolled superior team , Jimmy of course build it and coached wins.

Note: not comparing Garrett to Jimmy or any legendary coach , so don't crank upon me. Lol

I don't care about wins. I care about playoffs and Super Bowl appearances. The fact Garret is 4th in cowboys history in wins just shows you how meaningless and misleading that stat can be.

That list includes post season wins. Just regular season wins Garrett is alot closer to Schwitzer

I've never understood the hatred Jerry received over firing Landry. What was Jerry supposed to do, let Landry coach until age 90?

Not to mention the sorry 3-13 record of Landry's Cowboys by then,

It was how he did it not that he did it.
