Who to pay more attention to?

A. Rob Ryan
B. Bill Parcells

Parcells on Jones the general manager: “Jerry doesn’t have a football philosophy, but I like what he does. He tries to get all the information he can. He’s not a talent evaluator. Now, some days he thinks he is. Some days I think I’m an oilman, but I’m not. He’s an oilman.”

A fair point.

At the same time I'll take both guys views. I have no reason to believe that Ryan is some how wrong or off base. He was there, long after Bill was long gone, and he saw things he didn't agree with. What Bill thinks simply doesn't invalidate someone else's thoughts on a situations Bill is years removed from.

I disagree when they contradict each other, as these do. I'll take a HOF Coach over a spawn of Buddy Ryan on this one.

If they were there at the same time then yes I'd agree with you completely.

They weren't.

Bill has no clue who Jerry is or isn't listening to at the time Ryan was there just like Ryan would have zero clue about who Jerry was or wasn't listening to prior to his arrival there, or since he's left.

Jerry's never been secretive about the football guys he turns to and asks their opinions.

I don't assume that Jerry tells the world everything he does or doesn't do. Maybe he does. Maybe he doesn't.

Maybe Ryan is wrong. But his opinion is he listens to people that he shouldn't. He was there during that time, in that building, I was not. I'm not going to pretend that I know more about the inner working of the Dallas Cowboys than a coach that was there during that time frame.

Which is why I'm not going to pretend that what The Tuna says about the Cowboys during his time there is wrong or that it in any way applies to other coaches times there when The Tuna was not.

They're different opinions about different times in the Cowboys history and I give them both the benefit of the doubt on what they know and saw during their respective times with the team.

I'm not pretending i know more than Ryan. I guess I'm pretending that a HOF HC, who worked directly with the man, does.

Okay brother. We don't agree. I don't know how to make it more clear for you.

I am not taking the word of the HOF HC about the people and the situation he wasn't part of and hadn't been part of for years at that point.

If they were talking about the time of the team when Bill was actually coaching there then I'd completely go with Bill. Since they're talking about two completely different time frames it's not a matter of should I believe Bill or Ryan.

One was there at the time and one wasn't. I don't care what Bill has to say about his time there. It has zero bearing for me in regards to what was going on with the team when he wasn't there.

Just like if Jimmy Johnson says Jerry is amazing, never listens to the wrong people, and does this or that I'm not going to give it any weight unless he's only talking about the time when he was there. He doesn't know about any other time and thus his opinion on it doesn't do anything for me.
