It was a judgement call and a very poor one based on what we all saw. In reality, using fair judgement and following the rules as laid out, the following should have been the correct judgement:
Part 1 of the play
1. Did Dez established control? yes
2. Did Dez establish two feet inbounds? yes
3. Did Dez make a football move common in the game? yes, absolutely!

If all three are yes, then Dez did make a catch at that point in the play.

Part 2 of the play

1. After making/establishing a catch,was Dez contacted by a defender? yes
2. Did that contact result in Dez going down to the ground? yes

What is the only proper conclusion?
Ball should be spotted where the ball was positioned when Dez made first contact with the ground, with his elbow in this case.
Initial spot was..... spot on correct.

The more everyone explained it the more it sounded like they were just trying to backup steratore and get their story straight. Mike pereira straight up said well he didn't extend his arm far enough. So now refs are now judging how far a player must extend his arm. It's a crap call and everyone knows it but they gotta stay together.

I think Mike changed his story twice already. He first stated that Bryant bobbled the ball and went down immediately. However, after further review Bryant did not bobble the ball and took 3-4 steps towards the endzone. Then he mumbled off about the Calvin Johnson rule which doesn't apply here.

They know they screwed up and they are now backtracking.

He never really made a football move before going down and the ball touching the ground but only figures most here will blame that call on the Cowboys losing.

I don't understand how lunging at the endzone with the ball extended isn't a football move. You can't even make that move unless the ball is secure.

It's over, time to move on.

The Lions game shouldn't have come down to one play, and neither should this one.

You'd need to argue that he was going to the ground as part of the catch. Good luck with that.

The refs/replay officials already did that and successfully I might add. You may come to that realization next Sunday when you turn the TV on and the Cowboys aren't playing.

Interesting Perria thought that one hit the ground and should not be ruled a catch, but clearly followed party line of the Dez non catch...

Here's an interesting take on this whole subject from a non Dallas Fan

Source :

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2015...icial-highlights-the-biggest-problem-with-the

You may have to do a couple of links as it's a fox sports article posted on yahoo. This particular comment is in the responses.

I am not a Dallas fan but I dont beleive the right call was made. If a QB throws the ball to a receiver the play is live till the receiver is downed or he scores or until the play is ruled dead by the ball hitting the grond making it a incomplete pass. In this game and on this play it does not seem to me that they looked at the entire piocture. The QB threw the ball. The receiver was in the act of catching the ball the Defensive back did his job and proceided to tackel the reciver and/or stop him from completeing the reception. In the Replay you can see the receiver makes the grab and on the way down atempts to streatch for the goal line but according to the refs not enough to consider it a football move. What they fail to look at is when if the reciver DOWN and when is the PLAY OVER. The defensive back did his job tried to stop the catch and make the tackle but the receiver still made the play for the football brought it down and "here is my point" the ball never touched the ground control was lost for a moment when the received hit the ground and rolled but he regained it and was still in the field of play. So when is the play ended. You can not tackel a play and have him down if he does not have control of the ball! The ball never touched the ground so it shodol not be considered an incomplete pass! The receiver did get total control of the ball prior to it the ball touching the ground. So when is the Play DEAD when is it concidered over. In my mind the play is over when some one is downed or out of field of play or the ball touches the ground and an incomleted pass is the call. NONE of this happend. The ball was thrown the paly received it and came down in the field of play and ball never touched the ground and you can not down a player until he has control of the ball so when does the PLAY END. Why was this not a Reception?

YES...that's my contention. Your take is 100% spot on. He made the move, lunged for the pylon and came up short. It hit the ground and the ground can't cause a fumble. But because the NFL wanted to BONE us, they said he didn't make a move and as 'PART OF THE PROCESS' the ball came out. WHich he subsequently caught a second time BTW.

next wk:

Seattle 40

GBay 14........not sour grapes, being straight up serious.

I hope it's worse than that.....

The Lions game shouldn't have come down to one play, and neither should this one.

In the NFL almost every game comes down to one play so I will argue that it should have come down to one play. The days of rolling through teams is over. Heck even the rams were within a play when we beat them.

And each fan should be able to vent for as long as they need in order for them to truly move on.

Ok I was 99% sure it was a catch... but after hearing more about the rules that they were just discussing on NFL Network, I'm 100% sure. The number 1 argument for people saying it wasn't a catch is that he was falling to the ground and then the ball touched the ground (still makes no sense because he already had possession and took 3 steps), but anyways... after he already had possession he makes his "football move" by clearly reaching for the end zone after he catches it. On NFL Network they were talking to the head official or whatever and someone asked him why it wasn't considered a "football move" when he reached for the end zone... the idiot said that it wasn't conclusive enough that he was reaching for the end zone.... WHAT!? He clearly was going for the TD, it's almost undebatable. Unbelievable.

Also meaning it wasn't conclusive enough that he was not! See how this works...neither is falsifiable, and in that instance, the ruling on the field stands as called. The 11 stills from DC.com shows his pinky finger near the NFL logo on the ball from frame one to frame 9, when both his elbow and the ball reaches the ground simultaneously.

And what was MR. Head official going to say? That oops! we may have gotten that wrong? No way, no how, no never. Inconclusive is their line and they are going to stick to it! They are going to hide behind that rule for some time to come.

The man caught and controlled the ball to the ground causing a fumble. By the strict letter of a rule that looks to have been applied "inconclusively"...not so. Life goes on!

So if one is "done" with NFL officiating, what exactly does that mean? You won't believe in any calls any more? You're not going to watch NFL football anymore? You

Two plays before the Dez play, Romo is sacked for a 3 yard loss. When he is hit, he takes a direct helmet to helmet shot. Is this another example of, "It's Romo, it's okay," or does that rule not apply when the QB is out of the pocket?

Why is this not even being discussed ????? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> After Bryant clearly caught the ball, he was then able to transfer the ball to his left hand, HOW the he*1!*! is that not a football move? I already know he took 3 steps and then lunged forward, but besides that, it is hilarious to me that this is being overlooked.

Ok. So you agree with me.

Now be quiet.

I don't agree with you on anything and you're the one who needs to be quiet. You're the same poster who tried telling me a few days ago that the Cowboys win over the Colts wasn't a quality win because you didn't think the Colts are a good team when they just advanced farther in the playoffs than the Cowboys.

Dez caught the ball and did make a football move and those who say he didn't make a football move I totally disagree with. What Dez didn't do was maintain control of the football throughout the entire process of contacting the ground. The ball moved/oscillated when the ball touched the ground as Dez lunged. Why is that so hard for some of you to grasp??? The rule states that if a player is going to the ground they have to maintain control of the football throughout the entire process of contacting the ground. We see it all the time on Sundays where a receiver dives and makes a catch where the point of the ball touches the ground. On replay they look to see if there's any movement by the ball when it touches the ground.

The ball is allowed to touch the ground but it can't move or oscillate if it does it will be ruled an incomplete pass. If a receiver jumps to make a catch and lands on their feet and begins to run then is tackled and the ball moves or comes loose when it makes contact with the ground it's still a completed pass. The rule only applies if a receiver is going to the ground as they make a catch it's very simple to understand but some here are either in denial or look to blame calls on Cowboy losses. Threads are started frequently here worrying about who's officiating an upcoming game. Practically every time the Cowboys lose a game at least a few FANS blame calls on the loss.

Going to the ground is irrelevant. The process was already complete.

You're wrong going to the ground and maintaining control of the football when making contact with the ground is part of the process. Go read the rules!

Dez took 3 steps before he went down with the football. That was a catch. Officiating is trash. That cost the game.

Bottom line: he had control of the football. He landed just before the end zone line. Worst case scenario is we get the ball on the 1.5 yards line.
Yes, we was robbed. And heads should role in the officiating corp.
