I'm sorry.

With 4 minutes to play and needing only short yardage to keep the drive going..

Romo goes deep and there is no options to choose from.

Who called this play and why?

Sure..

if it's less than a minute to play and its desparate..

roll the dice deep.

But not when it was done.

A swing pass to Murray?

Romo roll out and look for Williams.

But chuck the ball on a lick and a promise with so much time and so little needed?

Sounds like somebody needs to be talked to and straightened out.

Maybe demoted.
 
It was the right call, the perfect pass and catch. Really not second guessing that call. We could have moved the chains, true, but continued to run more time off the clock and then potentially not scoring. Tony went for the win. I have no problem with that at all. I also think that if we score, our defense is jacked up to make the stop on Green Bay's next series. We will never know, unfortunately. But, if the Detroit game is a reference point, they were jacked up to stop Detroit in the end.
 
That was Romo's call. He saw there were 8 in the box and Dez had one on one coverage. So, lets demote him and promote Weeden. That will work.

Simple answer: Romo changed the play when he saw Dez one-on-one. It was a good decision by Romo that did not work out. Big time players go for big time plays.

There was more than 1 option on that pass plays, Romo saw the coverage he saw the matchup was favoriable and went to Dez. Same situation was in the Houston game it was also done in other game. You can ask why not throw it to anyone else but we do not know what the results would have been. He threw to Dez, Dez made the catch and the league over ruled it.
 
:facepalm: It was a perfect throw and the ball was caught. Other play options are irrelevant.
 
I want our star QB to go to our star WR. It is a play that we have seen Romo make that pass and Dez make that throw hundreds of times. There is nothing out of the ordinary about that play for those guys to make. If it is there and it doesn't take an out of the ordinary play for the players to make....then you take it.

Put it this way...imagine if it were a busted coverage and Dez was wide open all by himself. Should Romo 'just get the first down' and not throw to a wide open Dez?

The same principle applies. I know that Romo can make that throw to Dez and I know Dez can catch it.

Here the difference was that Dez wasn't wide open, but it's a play I've seen him do so many times and far more often than not...he comes up with the catch because he's just that great.

If it was play that required an out of the ordinary play (i.e. Dez being doubled or the pass being thrown into the corner of the end zone), then it would be a dumb play.

Just because we try to throw short to get the first down doesn't mean we get it either. Don't know if the receiver is covered and there are more people in the way to defend the pass.

Personally, I'm proud of the coaching staff giving the team the opportunity to win the game instead of 'playing not to lose', I'm proud of Romo for taking that play and I'm proud of Dez for making that catch. The league can't even get their stories straight about it being a catch. As I've said before, we played like winners. I don't care what the scoreboard says.

The best player on the team was finally in single coverage. Romo saw it. Dez saw it. They both made what could have been one of the best moments in the playoffs. The refs robbed them and the fans.
 
I didn't like the decision at all. It is a very low % throw regardless of a one on one match up. I thought it was a very bad idea and took an amazing catch by Dez to even make it happen. There was also a lot of time left in the game, so we didn't need to go to the end zone. Very bad idea.
 
Romo did everything right there. .
Saw his best receiver one and one vs a scrub DB and completed the pass for what could have ended up being the play that took us to the next round.
Of all people, even Rick Gosselin in the Morning News went so far as say (he did exaggerate, imo) that it was Romo's best play of the entire season and maybe could have been the best of his career.

If he would have taken a sack, fired incomplete short, or had a pass tipped and picked--all with the world--knowing Dez finally had single coverage by a 2nd strong corner--would have crucified him for the next decade.
He may have even taken crap if he completed a pass for the first down but we ended up not scoring on the drive.

This play is actually telling on what fans already had issues with Romo.
 
If Dez just lands on his back then this thread is filled with praise instead of disdain. The call was great, the pass and catch were terrific, just a little work on sticking the landing next time.

That is correct. However your % of a receiver catching a 3 yard pass is a hell of a lot higher than throwing a deep ball. That deep ball throw has a very low % of a completion.

With most of the coverage was underneath no it was not the higher percentage. GB was in coverage to stop the shorter routes, which is why Dez was left alone on the outside with no safety help. The pass was there the catch was made.

Not with Dez.

One-on-one, he makes that catch the majority of the time. And he made that catch again, we just got screwed by something out of our control.

Plus, don't forget...we needed to score a TD at that juncture as well. It wasn't like we were up by 5 points.
