If Murray leaves & we dont sign Hardy / Ghost of Barber Moss

This offseason will be a failure IMO. Period. Either we should have signed Murray to "keep the band together" on offense, or we used the money we saved by not paying him to get the only difference-making DE left on the market, Hardy. If we lose both, what was the plan? Just rest on the laurels of a 12-4 season and make no serious effort to get better on D, or stay the same on O?

Why not go after CJ Spiller? I saw where he's visiting the Saints tomorrow to potentially teamup w/ Mark Ingram

In my mind Spiller is not a replacement for Murray. He's not a chain moving alpha back. He's a complementary home run hitter. If Murray is gone, we find his replacement in the draft. And if we get Hardy, I'm OK with that strategy.

For me it was either let Murray walk and sign a significant upgrade at DE, or sign a significant upgrade at DE and let Murray walk. Hardy may be the only player in FA that fits that bill now. I really liked Sheard and am sad he's in NE on a pretty cheap deal.

I know it feels like every team is getting better and we are standing in the mud, but it's only two days in to free agency. There is still the draft and the second free agent period after the draft to fill whatever holes are left.

Exactly. I was on the Hardy/Sheard + rookie RB bandwagon from the beginnning.

Offseason isn't won in free agency.

Offseason is won with the draft.

Thats true of most positions, but FA is similar to the draft. Pass rushers go early and often and need to be snatched up if they want one.

Agreed. But losing a pro bowl RB, and not using that money to replace him with a pro bowl DE, but rather using the second wave of free agency to fill holes with JAGs, is not a winning strategy. It's just treading water.

When you are 12-4 and have a QB with a 2-3 year window, it is moreso won in free agency. I agree that the draft is how you build your team. But free agency is how you push it over the top to push for super bowl

so, you wanted Murray to walk, got it.....the longer he is out there, the less his asking price is going to be...I can still see Murray AND Hardy coming...patience is a virtue...as long as the FO isn't so patient that they miss out on signing anyone (especially their own)...I am not stressing any of the former Cowboys that got signed elsewhere (so far)....patience....

...and, didn't Sheard just sign with NE?

I guess you haven't heard that there is thing called the NFL Draft and the rest of the offseason. Give me a break with this overreacting nonsense.

If we don't post a Murray post in the Murray thread
If we don't post a Hardy post in the hardy thread

If we start a new thread about Hardy or Murray.... I will consider it a failure.

You know we have a low pick in a shallow draft right?

Replacing Murray with M Gordon does not make you better

I agree with you in most senses. The problem is, the chances we can improve our D while losing LBs just by this year's draft is very very slim. First year draftees don't step right in and make a defense. Period.

I don't like the history of older RBs. Combine that with the 400+touches in a year history and thats why I didn't want Murray back on a big deal. I could live with the 5m/year contract but more than that and I would be out.

that's pretty funny. but really thought it was making a dual point that warranted an independent thought process. lol
