It depends on what else we do and also how we draft.

Check back in after next year and see how both of those players have performed for the pay they received.
Obviously, none of us know right now.
They could both have great years or they could way underperform or get hurt, or in Hardy's case, get suspended

I know it feels like every team is getting better and we are standing in the mud, but it's only two days in to free agency. There is still the draft and the second free agent period after the draft to fill whatever holes are left.

Lets take off the blue and silver tinted glasses and admit that's it's really the 4th day of free agency. Teams have been finalizing deals since Saturday. And since that time we've done noting and a huge portion of the talent pool is gone. Aside from a few guys left we are mostly digging in the scrap bin. It's Hardy or bust at this point for me. The chances of a rookie picked at 27 and coming in and making an immediate big impact on our team is pretty slim, not impossible, but certainly not something we should be counting on.

Use the cap space we have now to sign a big defensive FA and go into the draft and grab an RB. I'd much rather grab an RB that we can pay cheaply for the next 4 years than getting into a bidding war with the Eagles and Saints for Murray or Spiller.

I'm now on the Yeldon bandwagon and a bit of Coleman. If we can draft Gordon in the first somehow, I guess do it; though I'd rather go defense

Why not just draft a RB. I don't understand why people want to over pay for Murray. He's coming off his best year at 27 and only year he's stayed healthy all year. Happens to be a contract year. Sorry but I don't want to over pay for a RB with that history.

Let's get to Hardy. Why? Has he ever gotten over 13 or 14 sacks? He's coming off a suspension year and has maybe 1 or 2 good years left. I'm sorry but I'm done over paying for Free agents. Look at the best teams in the nfl. They are built not bought.

When you are 12-4 and have a QB with a 2-3 year window, it is moreso won in free agency. I agree that the draft is how you build your team. But free agency is how you push it over the top to push for super bowl

No it's not. You build your team through the draft and then fill in with smart free agent spending. Not going crazy and signing average players to big contracts or on the downside of their career.

I have a feeling Hardy will be suspended and teams know it.

No one knows what will happen with him, but that question is certainly looming over every teams head. But he can't be signed right now anyways, from what I've read. It's been reported several teams are looking to get into a bidding war for him, I can only guess we are one of them.

If we don't post a Murray post in the Murray thread
If we don't post a Hardy post in the hardy thread

If we start a new thread about Hardy or Murray.... I will consider it a failure.

This DeMarco Hardy guy is a hell of a player, and a must sign.

If they don't get him, Greg Murray is a must add. Versatile guy.

If, by quirk of fate, neither are available, they have to move heaven and earth to get Murray Hardy. He's an amazing accountant.

I think I'd sign him anyway to a low-guaranteed money deal and eat the 6 game suspension. 26 sacks in 2 seasons from a LDE. that's what this team desperately needs to make the 4-3 work.

how is hardy an average player on the downside of his career?

Don't know if I should answer this silly question.

I don't believe it to be a silly question. We have a bottom of the round 1st which lowers our chances of an impact player. The draft is a known crapshoot in terms of hitting on players in any round and as a whole. If we lose contributing players from last year's team and don't have any upgrades in FA, then we aren't going to magically have an amazing draft to improve the team.

I agree with this. But some people are taking the "Don't sign pricey FA" too far. It would be smart to sign either a solid DE or DT before heading into the draft so we can focus on specific positions. RB, to me, now just became a need for us. So, we have RB, DE, DT, Safety, CB, and RT to focus on in the draft. That's a lot of weak spots for a 12-4 team, one of them needs to be fixed in FA.
