Yeah. I can't see where the disappointment is coming from.

If not Murray for dirt cheap then who?

I honestly like this move a lot.

Do you think they passed on all the other RBs because they knew they had McFadden in the bag? It seems that this deal was done for awhile, given all the provisions. I think it may have affected the negotiations with Murray. I think they were pretty glad Murray left.

Glad he left or knew they wouldn't match, what does it really matter?

If they weren't going to pay up for Murray, what other stud was available who would fit their price?

They don't think they need to spend at the position. Right or wrong, a minimal contract for a guy that has talent but has been injured and stuck in Oakland isn't a bad deal.

To be fair, you have "nothing" because you rarely have anything of substance to add to this board.

I wouldn't be surprised if McFadden isn't even on the opening day roster. As it is, it's a risk-free move that hedges our bets moving forward. I don't see this move as a hindrance in us making a second move at the position should someone become available or if the right player is available to us in the draft.

To be fair, I wouldn't even know he said anything if you didn't acknowledge him. I have to think most of us have him on ignore already.

I thought that originally but if the scouts are seeing what Broaddus is, they blame the raiders OL. He has the best skills to be the 3rd down back that could block for Romo and catch passes.

So how do you explain L Murray outplaying him by a wide margin?

I'm Johnny come-lately but I'm going to add some comparisons (I'm not going to scan 50 pages of threads to see if these have been mentioned)

1. Though McFadden has been in the league twice as long...Darren only has 70 more carries...and far, far fewer miles on the odometer in the past 2 years.

2. Though McFadden has been in the league twice as long...both guys 27 years old.

3. They share virtually identical size

4. McFadden was much more celebrated back coming into draft

5. McFadden has one of fastest 40 times you'll see. Has he lost a step?

6. DeMarco played behind poor offensive lines—certainly in 2011 and 2012. Yet he always averaged 4.1 or better per carry. McFadden has had two nice years, but four seasons with averages under 3.4. DeMarco has played with a good quarterback, stretching the field. McFadden never has.

7. Until 2014 DeMarco played on a mediocre team. McFadden has had the misfortune of being stuck on the worst team of the past decade.

WE ARE DRAFTING AN RB PEOPLE!

Our coaching staff is not stupid, they are not thinking McFadden is our starter and can last 16 games with the workload. There are plenty of RBs in this draft we can grab. Want to know why Murray didn't get a big offer? It wasn't just because of the cap, it's also because we have our eyes on a couple RBs in the draft. Read a couple threads from the past week, me and a few others already predicted McFadden would be brought in as a backup to whatever RB we draft.

And that is absolutely idiotic to say Jones will get too comfortable and not bring in top level talent any longer. And that's also idiotic to stop bringing in risk/reward players too. We'll bring in top level talent on reasonable deals, we just won't overspend. And yes, that is possible.

We are not going through 7 rounds of the draft without grabbing one of the top RBs. If I'm wrong, I'll come right back to this thread and eat my crow. But as of now, it's almost a certainty that's what we'll do. Coleman will most likely be our guy, so have some fun and watch his highlights and familiarize yourself with him.

Yeah were probably drafting in the 1st round. Would rather go defense since almost our entire linebacker crew has left town.

Jone's are getting comfortable. They now think that good coaching will coverup for the lack of talent. I guess thats what happens when we finally have a dependable coach in Marinelli. They probably aren't even worried about getting a passrusher. Thats really too bad because were a passrusher away from becoming a top team.

Say what you want. The Jones's need to get talent on defense first and foremost. Now that Murray is gone were gonna be putting our eggs into filling that basket with a runningback with our top pick.

Maybe you have not been keeping up with current events bro, but let me breakdown our current backfield for you............

Ryan Williams......was on practice squad all year
Lance Dunbar......gets maybe 1-2 touches per game
Joseph Randle......keeps stealing underwear from Dillards
Darren McFadden........has been hurt every year in the league, has broken 1000 yards just once in 7 years.

That's it bro, nothing else.............maybe we draft a rookie RB and maybe we don't, that is all hypothetical............this is what we actually have today. So who on this list is replacing Murray?

Or is the plan to let this JV level backfield run as a committee with carries split among the 4 runners?

You fail to understand that the season opener is 5+ months from now. What we actually have today could and likely will change well before then.

We drafted a pass rusher last season, remember? Lawrence could take the next step and at least become an 8-10 sack guy this year with some QB pressures. That alone is huge and will get us places. We can get our second DE in this draft. Will he come out firing on all cylinders? Most likely not, and I'd be far more worried if we had two rookies at DE. Let's also not forget, Crawford looked pretty good last year. I'm expecting this guy to make another jump. He was one of the few players that applied pressure on the QB from time to time, he's developing into a really good player. We are going to have more pressure next year from these guys, you don't just need sacks; pressuring the QB is key.

And seeing as how we were living and dying by the run to get into the playoffs, I'm going to say that an RB is a top priority right now. But we don't need to grab an RB in the first, there's only two RBs that people think may go in the first: Gurley or Gordon. If Gordon is there, grab him. There are DE's in the second that we can grab as well, just to name one: Eli Harold. He's highly athletic, and has a better burst off the line than most DE's in the draft. If we have to, I'd say give up a third to move up in the second to grab him. But I don't think we'd have to, a lot of mocks have him going in the early second; which I'd have no problem trading back into the early second and grabbing maybe an extra third and snatching him up. Obviously, this depends on who is there at 27; maybe a quality DE slips into the late first and we won't have to. Either way, I'd even reach on him a bit since the difference between 27 and early second isn't that much different.

I don't get how you can't be OK with this? this is virtually a risk-free deal...if the guy is on the field and can play, they he earns his meal money, and not much in he gran scheme of things...if not, then the cap isn't "hit" with anything...this guy used to be pretty darned good....let's give it a few months to see if he can earn his spot...

...the people poo-pooing this astound me...no risk here, and I don't feel for a second it impacted the murray decision in the least

I like 1, 2, 3

4 & 5 He may have something left for us

5 would love to hear from someone who has followed him

6 & 7 makes believe there is a good chance he can help us ALOT. Break away... Something DeMarco couldn't do.

I applaud the deal.
Jerry always wanted. That's gotta count for something in DM's mind. A second chance at life.
