You can't put a gun to his head and say sign up for 4-5 years with limited guarantees. Maybe the Cowboys didn't want the risk of material guaranteed dollars given the situation. As long as Dallas can franchise him (and sign Dez long term), Dallas has an option year.

If the guy plays well, he'll command a monster deal that Dallas likely won't offer. Oh well, we can enjoy a legit pass rush for 12 games or so....then we're back to square 1

If he's playing at an All-Pro level you do an in-season extension. That's worked plenty of times in the past. Players care most about guaranteed money first and foremost. If it's a reasonable offer it'll get done then. I'd love to have been out from the Carr contract after one year.

Plus as a side note this keeps DL a priority for the draft, which I think is a good thing as the more the better in terms of talent there in my opinion.

Good deal. We night get some pressure. But don't think one guy can completely turn a defense around. That won't happen. But he will help get pressure and offenses will have to gameplan for him.

So if both Hardy and Dez go off and have a stellar year with everything else they've accomplished we get to lose one of them ala DeMarco Murray next year because Bryant was Tagged this year and next year they both get paid. I'm not saying a one year deal was bad but I definitely don't see it as good,especially if he kills this year and we can't pay him next year.

have you seen how much money we have available next year?
signing hardy and dez long term wont be an issue-they could even front load 1 of there contracts next year so take the hit 1st season as crwford is our only other significant free agent to be this time next year
