News: DC: Cowboys Agree To Terms With Pro Bowl DE Greg Hardy

And we can't tag him? This is about the worst case scenario of signing him.

If we want him back in 2016, we will need to find some cap room somewhere,,either with Dez or Tony, or dump some $$ in the secondary ( Carr if he is here in 2015 ).

Come on.. Are you serious?

You and I both know his options were very limited.

He didn't have to sign now. could of waited it out some more, even after the draft, to see if any team comes calling after they missed on a DE they wanted.

625k per game he actually plays. Won't get that for suspension games. A lot of money.

I like the one year option. But the no franchise tag is peculiar. That just means if Dallas loves him, they have to lock him up at top DE money.

I'm not sure. It seems like we'll be in the same boat next year. Shopping for a pass rusher.

I'm not a fan of "rent-a-player". McClain worked out last year, but we can't seem to lock him up and we're in the market for a LB. I can see this happening with Hardy.

next year is next year.Lawrence might take the next step and we could always draft another DE.

that's dumb as hell! sign him to several years. One year is a idiot move and puts us right back in the same boat next offseason. Were taking all the risk signing this guy. Another team can step in and take him after we take all the bad PR. This is nonsense

This is similar to Spencer 1 yr franchise deals.......but, potential a much great production for the same price point......then, we have the option to franchise him next year if we cannot work out a long term deal.......good job Stephen Jones.

Crikey! Just heard that Hardy can NOT be franchise or transition tagged next season... There is work to be done.

Perhaps this is what turned the Bucs off. They wanted multi-year, he wanted to bet on himself.

That guy is cutting the rug.

From a football standpoint, you'd pay that any day for one of the best pass rushers in the league

Now that I see the details I don't love the contract...

I like that the majority of his pay is on a per game basis, so we have insurance against him being suspended.

I don't like that it's a one year contract with a no franchise/transition tag clause. We have no leverage in future negotiations, unless his performance this year is disappointing (or he just loves playing for the team).

I don't think this signing changes our draft at all... A disruptive d-lineman is still at the top of our list needs, Hardy he could easily be on another team next year.

The only advantage in that regard is that we don't have to count on a rookie DL to be an impact player.

What were his options?

He had no leverage to be telling teams how long term of a deal he would sign.

He had options. You're telling me some time wouldn't have given him a 1 year vet. minimum deal. It wasn't that bad yet but there aren't many teams that can't use a 26 year old elite pass rusher.

Not to mention he's not risk free. Its a win/win for both sides. If i'm the Cowboys, i'm not investing more than a year in him and if i'm Hardy i'm not signing more than a one year deal.

He will be 28 before the start of the 2016 season. It's all down hill from there.
