News: DC: Cowboys Agree To Terms With Pro Bowl DE Greg Hardy

So if both Hardy and Dez go off and have a stellar year with everything else they've accomplished we get to lose one of them ala DeMarco Murray next year because Bryant was Tagged this year and next year they both get paid. I'm not saying a one year deal was bad but I definitely don't see it as good, especially if he kills this year and we can't pay him next year.

That's possible for sure but remember, Tony's salary goes way down next season.

Im sorry.. When did this guy gain any leverage?

I don't think its uncommon for a player without leverage -- be it due to coming off injury or an off-field issue -- to still not be forced into a long-term deal. Happens all the time.

who cares what makes sense for him! Right now we have the upper hand. We should have signed him to a longer contract period. This is a awful deal. He uses us to show the world he is a changed man and then makes more money.

Won't be saying that if we win SB

so this is a one year rental

Weird deal.

It protects the team for if/when he's suspended. Or if there is a monster issue similar to Ray Rice's video being released. No bonus for games missed, so if he misses a lot of time he's hurt by it.

So, he's good enough to sign long term, but you are under the impression that he had "no leverage." Are you even listening to yourself?

Come on.. Are you serious?

You and I both know his options were very limited.

I'm not sure. It seems like we'll be in the same boat next year. Shopping for a pass rusher.

I'm not a fan of "rent-a-player". McClain worked out last year, but we can't seem to lock him up and we're in the market for a LB. I can see this happening with Hardy.

Well McClain, IIRC, is facing a 4 game suspension and who knows what's going on with that alabama house case.
We could just be waiting for his demands to drop, or just moving on from him.

Well my feeling is this now it's extremely important to get Dez signed to a multi-year deal so we can keep that
Tag Destination for Hardy because we will most likely need it......

Unless they were going to get him to sign for peanuts....I love the 1 year deal. He's a Cowboy, and he'll be a Cowboy for 1,2, or 3 more years regardless, if we want him.

His cap hit is nothing; there's no impact on future years if he craps the bed. The Cowboys don't mind paying a stud player what he's worth, so they get to see what he's worth in this defense on this team.

The only way I'd be happier is if he'd signed a 4 year deal for 20-25 million. That wasn't going to happen, and any long term deal would have included a huge signing bonus we'd be stuck with even if he was gone. This works just fine for me, and if the Cowboys are happy, I'm happy.

Whoa...

Funny you should mention the word idiot

Do you think Dallas didn't want to sign him long term?
Do you think much (or any) of this money is guaranteed?
Do you think Dallas in no way covered their butts...in any way whatsoever?
Would we rather we not have Hardy at all?

I think the hangup was over the fact that the cowboys wanted to lock him up multiyear, but were unwilling to fork over any/very little guaranteed money. I think the cowboys could have had him at a lower number and more years if they were willing to guarantee some of the money. but it appears that they kiinda went with the same type of deal they wanted to do with Dez, and got done with tyron smith: lots of years, low guarantees.
