No but if he leaves after 2015 we could get a 3rd

I had pretty much given up on that 3rd or 4th comp pick once it appeared that the Hardy signing was a done deal. Since his base salary is only $750,000 and no idea how the incentives will pan out, it's amazing that we'll be able to retain that pick, and potentially receive another if he doesn't resign. We have to be pleased about that.

This is a win-win for us.

We get Hardy on a deal that won't cripple us in the future like we have in the past.

Hardy is excited to play for Dallas, and we will be in the drivers seat to extend him.

I don't think Jones will let the best pass rusher since Dware just get up and leave. Teams will also still be weary of his character keep in mind. Every other team had the chance to add him to this roster but did not, and we got him for a very reasonable price.

AND if he does decide to leave us, we cop a free 3rd round comp pick to potentially add to our defense.

I don't see any negatives.

Why would he do that now when his value will never be lower? When there is no one else even interested in bidding?

If he keeps his nose clean this year there will be teams falling all over themselves to sign him, why take an offer from Jerry now when he can get a bidding war going next year?

It all depends on the offers. If someone offered 30m guaranteed on a 6yr/60m deal he probably would take it.

If they offered 5/45m with 15m it's not worth it.

He will never get Suh or Watt money imo.

I think it's a great deal for both sides. Not sure why people are annoyed over the single year, if he sucks or gets injured the rental doesn't hurt the team.

Smart move on Hardys part considering JPP and Houston are hitting the market next year.

That makes no sense whatsoever. He has to play it out one year to hopefully repair his reputation to get his big long term deal, but if you gave him the big deal right now he'd take it. It would be idiotic not to on his end.

Correct, if he's getting the same deal now vs next year, of course he will take it now. That's the point...nobody is giving him a "max" contract so to speak right now.

So he's betting on himself...he figures, he's innocent, he'll stay out of trouble, he will cash in bigger next year...

That's his stance

JJ Watt got 6yrs/$100M with 50mil guaranteed. If Hardy puts up 15 sacks with Cowboys this year and continues to be a force against the run he sure as heck will get more than 6/60 on the open market.

That's what he is betting on.

Conversely, I can't fault the FO too much for not guaranteeing that kind of money to a guy with a suspension over his head and off the field issues.

I don't think he ever gets more than 4 years. He won't get Suh or Watt money no matter how many sacks he gets.
