Is it just me that believes McFadden is starting RB?

2. Murray OTOH was playing for a big payday this past season. And now he's got his money. He'll have no motivation to play for extra money, no motivation to play for rushing records (he'll be just one guy on the committee). That, plus all that tread on his tires from '14. He's going to head south next winter.
3. McFadden is going to hit some of that daylight that Murray enjoyed...and it's going to taste good. Perhaps he won't be as elusive as Murray but he'll be faster...and if the line can put him in a situation to run to daylight...Katy bar the door. You'll see some long plays going to the house in 2015.
4. McFadden's confidence will return. This guy was back-to-back top runner in college. He needs a line, some sunshine and his mojo back.

I think McFadden's "effort" has always been there but he probably lost some of his passion due to the injuries and not living up to the expectations many had of him coming out of college. He's a life long Cowboys fan so this is a dream for him and it should invigorate him. He knows if he can't produce behind the Cowboys OL and has a short stay in Dallas his career will likely be done. Playing for the Cowboys will be an opportunity for him to get his mojo back but he has to stay healthy for that to happen.

That could be if they're signing a back who averaged less per carry than McFadden but RB's being as devalued as they are today don't have the leverage players do at other positions. Most that are made available have either flamed out somewhere else or are on the decline and are just looking for an opportunity to continue their career.

Very good post

It actually take me to Murray. How did he get the deal he got. Amazing!

Because he is:

A.) Overvalued in a time where as you said the rbs are devalued. (He leveraged that deal with previous season accomplishments)

B.) Entering flameout in a year or two.

C.) In decline in a year or two.

D.) With a team that overpayed.. Continuing his career.
 
fearless predictions:

1) McFadden is only 3rd down back who can block and catch ball out of backfield and essentially replaces dunbar.
2) Randle and Williams don't even make it out of camp.
3) Dallas trades up to select Gurley.

A lot of players leverage a deal with their previous season and most of them are overpaid that's what happens when teams are bidding on players in free agency. Philly taking Murray away from the Cowboys in itself may be worth them overpaying him. That one move may change everything for both teams next season. In Philly Murray's career will likely be extended due to not having to carry the ball as much as he did in 2014. The Cowboys would have continued leaning on him which may have had him in decline in a year or 2.

Prior to 2014 Murray only had 542 carries in his previous 3 seasons so even though he received 392 carries last season his workload hasn't been that heavy over his career. McCoy never had more than 314 carries under Kelly and with the addition of Mathews Murray may only see 260-280 carries. Most teams devalue RB's and the Cowboys may have made a huge mistake devaluing Murray because he was the teams MVP last season and the #1 reason Romo was so efficient and the Cowboys were such a big surprise in 2014.

He obviously got the deal due to a great season and being the main reason the Cowboys made the playoffs helping to keep Philly at home. It could be worth Philly overpaying him to help weaken our arsenal and strengthen theirs. Had the Cowboys not gone after Deion after the 94 season taking him from SF it may have been the 49ers dominating the 90's. One player can make a huge difference especially within a division with one team adding it's rival's MVP from the previous season. Jerry has taken some gambles but letting Murray walk allowing him to sign with Philly may be the biggest gamble he's ever taken. The Cowboys were right on the brink of something special and Murray's departure may lead to another what could have been for the franchise.

You left out one very important aspect of this open competition between Williams, Randle, and McFadden..................what if they all suck and nobody is a bellcow?

What if Williams is just a shell of his former self after numerous injuries, what if Randle was a good change up back but cant be the lead horse if teams are game planning for him, and what if McFadden is Eddie George 2.0 and it was not "just the Raiders" that caused his yards per carry to drop like a rock over the past couple of seasons?

As Nick Eatman would say...............what if all three are "KP"?...............cant play.

To the point you were trying to make..... Murray is not on the same planet as Deion anyways.


As great a year as it was for Murray. We won't miss a beat running. He wasn't that special.

I couldn't disagree more. It won't be worth overpaying him. Not even close.

Who is going to lead the eagles? Bradford? Mariotta? Sanchez? It's rebuilding process.
They are two years away from anything. Murray will be almost by then. He could have a real hard time in his first season there. No QB. All focus on him.

The Cowboys didn't devalue Murray. The eagles overvalued him/wanted to take him away.
There is a difference.

End of next season. I will be closer to the scenario that plays out.
 
RBBC. I don't think we will have a "starting running back". At least not until the cream rises to the surface in a rotational situation. It could be that we go with the hot hand from week to week. If we hit the right RB in the draft, It would most likely be the rookie that becomes the starting RB. The trick will be striking gold in the draft.

My concern is taking a back too early and he is overvalued and becomes a bust. While an RB deeper in the draft becomes the next Adrian Peterson. I say don't reach for an RB with our first pick, and take a candidate at a position where they are likely to be "a sure thing", such as DT. Take an RB with the second pick possibly third. The draft is deep at RB
